I don't understand why everyone thinks the husks become sentient just because one stops attacking an alliance soldier when the Synthesis wave hits it.

Agreed.

It's nice to see how this thread inspired a few other threads that have popped up in the last few days.

Hahaha

This alone has made me hate Synthesis.

Draw back my argument.  I hate Synthesis now

It actually would make a good story on how the husk, banshees etc try to get back what they lost, before the Reapers attacked. Something like 7of9 from Star Trek Voyager.

I agree 200%.
It is basically doing what the reapers wanted, and worse its like they are forgiven for what they've done to every cycle.
And lets not forget it makes everybody a reaper in a way.
They need to be destroyed or otherwise, shepard has given up on what he fought for.
Choosing control is going against everything shepard believes since it is what the illusive man wanted and you try to tell the illusive man he is indoctrinated since he believes he can control the reapers.
Synthesis is just wrong in so many ways.
Destroy is the only choice that ensures the reapers are destroyed and shepard sticks to his morals and his goal to destroy the reapers.

It's good to know a few people still see it this way.

You mean it's good to know that people view it wrongly?

I imagine that would be a little hard to get back your old life, when you look like an ugly husk.

War is over:
Husk comes home for dinner: "Honey, I'm home."
Wife: "OH GOD! KILL IT WITH FIRE!"

I like how people have to doomsay anything that remotely sounds like it could lead to a happy ending because it's not what people wanted. This reminds me of all the pre-EC shenanigans:

"The relays exploded, everything dies because that's what happens when a relay explodes!"
Utterly ignoring all evidence to the contrary, or the circumstances under which the relay explodes in Arrival

"Without Relay travel, the galaxy is doomed and everyone starves to death!"
Ignoring conventional FTL, which is stated as a viable, if very slow method of travel

"Galactic civilization is DONE FOR!"
Forgetting that QEDs still exist and are linked to a few places

"The Normandy is stranded forever!"
What, they can't make repairs?

And now the same thing is happening to the Synthesis ending. People just grossly dislike it because it means believing in what the Catalyst believes. And we all know the Catalyst HAS to be wrong because he's a REAPER! <sarcasm mode>

This thread is more about the moral and social ramifications of giving an advanced technology to a galaxy that is still not ready, and like Mordin stated, giving nuclear weapons to cavemen. It's not about whether it was a happy ending or not.

I am simultaneously intrigued and repulsed by synthesis for many reasons in the original post. On the surface, it would appear to logically be the ideal solution. Synthetics and organics would reach a true harmony through a shared evolution, but the idea of fundamentally changing every organic sentient species without their consent just feels so incredibly wrong. Perhaps that says more about who we are than anything else?

I know this will be unpopular, but I actually very much enjoyed the conflicting logic and intuition of the endings. I really had to stop and think about that final choice.

The Prothean Vision in ME1/ME2 = a warning about Synthesis
The fate of the Prothean race (being turned into Collectors) =  a warning about Synthesis
The entire Dragon Tooth (what happened to them, by the way?) huskification process =  a warning about Synthesis
The birth of the Reapers (each created from a harvested race) =  a warning about Synthesis
Saren's fate and his "vision of the future" =  a warning about Synthesis

With almost every example of organics and synthetics merging leading to horrific results right throughout the series, only the most blissfully ignorant (or hopelessly naive) individuals could possibly think Synthesis would be a good idea.

Indeed. In fact, to link in with another hot topic in the forum right now, not only are the Reapers (and the Catalyst) representative of Synthesis in and of themselves, they're also representative of a technological singularity in and of themselves.

YOU DEVELOP ALONG THE LINES WE DESIRE.
