If we really wanted to remove all influence form the reapers than we would have to destroy the citadel and the relays, after all they built them.
Which is another ending and it's fine if you choose that.
But synthesis has its own weaknesses and strengths, so can't we all just get along? :)

It would go further than that, though, learning from your enemies isn't necessarily a bad thing either. Just remember the thannax cannon.

Oh good. Another thread where the OP had no idea what synthesis is about, and declares it evil. When did the Internet turn into angry luddites? Did I miss that memo?

Anyway, filing this one under: "Any technology, no matter how primitive, is magic to those who don't understand it."

Even taking the ridiculous "space magic" aspect out of it... what would you think if someone snuck up behind you in line for the subway and stuck you with a syringe without warning? What if this syringe was given to them by a genocidal monster who barely provided your attacker with any explanation of its contents? Because Synthesis Shepard essentially does this to everyone in the galaxy.

Head-canon is fine for the individual, but it doesn't address the legit concerns with the choice.

Calling people ignorant because of your own assumptions dont take their concerns into account is telling.  People who hate synthesis dont need to HC why its bad.  If they did it wouldnt be anywhere as near as unpopular as it is.

I dont care what people imagine once the credits roll. To each their own. But you need more than "you dont get it" to solve ignorance.

Why does this thread exist? If anyone does feel synthesis does not make sense then don't choose it. Don't start threads trying to convince others that one choice is clearly an abomination and an other is valid.

Also to the OP, from your post I'm feeling you consider synthetic life is bad no matter what. To counter that I direct any who think that to read the books with robot written by Isaac Asimov. For a simplified version of the point in his books watch the movie "Bicentennial Man" please.

Rational argument is all well and good, but just look at the first page of the synthesis support thread if you want an example of not only ignorance, but hardcore trolling.

grow thicker skin?  Did you counter them with an actual response that didnt involve something outside the game lore?

Did i post on the first page?

There are many more smart people here than outright trolls. There are also some very smart people here. Want to change minds?  Convince them. Screw the trolls. Theyre idiots.  Auld hasnt responded. That doesnt shock me.  Every "group" has trolls.  Beat em with logic. It shuts them up.

If their intent is to save me from certain-death, I wouldn't hold it over that person, whether I liked the syringe or not.

Another thread? This is 34 pages long. It's not new, lol.

Still, I appreciate your pseudo intellectual post that utilizes ad hominem right off the bat, simply because you disagree. No one in this thread has been an angry anything. And if that were the case, it would have been shut down more than a month ago.

The concern is not the technology. It's the technology being given to a species that barely understands even themselves, like Mordin's example of giving cavemen nuclear weapons.

Edi, Geth and probably catalyst and reaperships were never 'given' to cavemen. They basically came out that 'nowhere' of organic brain cases. Stumbled upon by chance and the chaos of intellect.

Synthesis isn't an 'abomination' so much as the naming of it as such, out of misunderstanding at the fringes of needs.

it's a blame game the OP professes, it's written in the header. Starts with opposible thumbs..Image IPB

The awful truth of synthesis was revealed way back in ME2, with Overlord. I guess people just like to forget, because they find it harder than having to pick the tougher choice, which is sacrificing the Geth and Edi, for a greater good.

It was stated in the beginning, we all knew sacrifices would have to be made if we were ever to win this war. Legion and Edi understood this too. And this is coming from someone who made peace between the Geth and Quarians.

Did it come off like I was trying to change his opinion? If so I apologize because that is not what I was going for. I was trying to reccomend media that illustrates another point of view. Not with the purpose to change an opinion but to show that there are also others and to show why there are also others.

The awful truth, if any is the idea that "any" example of synthesis is 'projected' from other parts of the story. There is no more incidence of it other than the actual end game. Overlord is merely a representation of communcation with the Geth consensus by a cyborg, almost driven insane by his brothers incompetence and callus science, not synthesis. It's not even close to that.

It would be like comparing CB radio to submolecular transduction**. Legion and Edi were willing to take risks, not accept the complete extinction of themeselves. Legion has the Geth to be concerned, Edi only has humans to look out for her...poor dear.

It's an abomination, because it strips away everything that makes us human/<other races here>.

No, it doesn't. Everything is still its own self.

Incorrect. Everybody is at their peak of perfection. There is no further evolution, and there is no strive for a better existence. Essentially, there is no longer a need for society as a whole, because you're capable of doing it all on your own. And most importantly, power was given to the hands of children, who don't understand its responsibility and therefore, another war is inevitable.

This seems relevant.  But the epilogue slides don't show negative stuff, so it must be all great!

That is not relevant at all.

None of the epilogues show any negative stuff, so that point it also irrelevant.

I still stand by what I said. Even James in his anime movie (not a great movie, but point still stands), took the lesser road for a greater good. It's unfortunate that people had to die, but without his actions, certain events just wouldn't have played out like they had.

The same thing with Shepard. From the first game, destroying the Reapers was our goal. And like I've said in the past, not destroying the reapers, and essentially giving them freewill via Synthesis, keeps an extremely powerful being on the loose, who for all intents and purposes, could go rogue at any moment and create further chaos. And who knows, if they live long enough, they could even decide the cycle of destruction needs to continue, and we'd just be back at square one.

Some of these threads go by way too fast. I must have missed that one myself, lol. Still, it's nice to see the parallel between the arguments, for and against.

I'll say this at no point in the previous 2 games is synthesises made out to be an acceptable alternative, nor is control. At no point during the third game did anyone imply that synthesis or control was good (Tim wanted control not to save the galaxy but to elevate mankind above all... earth first doctrine, an alien hater). The game ending is a joke as I see people arguing over a 5 minute ending that makes zero sense. There is only one thing in the game stating that synthesis is good, "Star Brat" (and people take this genocidal construct at its word). People chose the green machine out of pure emotive reasoning, the Geth and Edi (again you only have star brats word that destroy will cause them to become non functional)... and ignore the implications it has not just for those 2 synthetics but on the millions of spp and trillions of lives both then and into the future. A green choice made on the word of a Reaper, good god. Destroy is made out to be a bad choice by a Reaper (how surprising). This not an ending of choice, it is the endings you offer when you are too damn dismissive of what has gone before and cannot be bothered to create an ending with a modicum of continuity... a finish to a game that feels like it took five minutes to write.. complete with flawed logic.

Not one decision in that ending is yours, it is hard coded by a Reaper/writer (really zero choice), your choices are made by a Reaper/writer RGB.. and you are supposed to take a Reaper for its word with 50 million year of genocide as its resume. These are ****** poor endings.

Though as a writer myself, I agree with some of your points, in the end, bashing the endings isn't what this thread comes down to. It's more so a philosophical debate on the subject, and whether humans/aliens are ready for such tech, etc.

Whether we're ready is a moot point...
It's using the entire galaxy as a test subject for a non consensual experiment he found out about a minute ago and knows almost nothing about. He has no research, no data. He's not even a scientist...

He shoots things and blows crap up...

Mordin: Never used humans myself. Disgusting, unethical, sloppy. Used by brute force researchers, not thinkers. No place in proper science.

Shepard: I imagine you had to do some live subject testing while developing the new genophage.

Mordin: No, unecessary. Limited tests to simulations, corpses, cloned tissue samples. High level tests on varren. No tests on species with members capable of calculus. Simple rule, never broke it.
