Try the Dragon Age Wiki if you don't want to. But still... Dragon Age: Origins is only fifteen bucks for a version with its expansion and all the DLC...

This site should provide answers to most of your questions. It can be daunting trying to catch up on the lore, especially if you are starting with the second game (which is the case here). Take the time to read the in-game codex as you play to further familiarize yourself with the setting and characters. Good luck and hope you enjoy yourself.
Edit: I agree with Bob. you should certainly try playing the first game, just bear in mind there are differences in game mechanics between Origins and DAII.

Suffice to say, it's a good idea to play Origins first, else you'll lack sufficient context and perspective for many of the events, concepts and characters within DA2
