I also like the summoning circle. Love doing all the parts of it, but I usually wait and go back and do it after I've completed the circle.

I wish the summoning components for that puzzle could be in the the codex as entries of their own, after the quest is completed! Those tomes have amazing names and I was really curious about reading more of them... hehe

I tired to go back into Warden Keep and see how the *spolier* was doing, but couldn't get in the door. Maybe it was something I was doing wrong.

Nope. Once you leave you can't re-enter.

But on topic, I would like to add my voice to those of the others. I have been reading SF/fantasy for many long years, and gaming for far fewer. Yet in that time, Bioware has been one of the best and DA:O has moved it from 'one of the best' to simply 'the best'. The only thing I missed here was having a voice for my PC, which has nothing to do with the writing so I'll move on.

Great work, kudos to all the writing team. Some characters I loved, some I hated, but none of them do I feel indifferent to. And the same can be said of endings, and plots, and every element. A true work of art. Thank you.

It's sweltering hot today here in Oz; I need an iced drink and another 6 hours of DA:O. Brilliant! B)

I would like to know who wrote the banter between the two guys there in the Lake Calenhad Docks, For the first time tonight, really got to hear it, and I was ROFLMBO at what they were saying. I mean come on writer, a direct stab at those who play the game.

I never ment for this to be a spolier thread, no wonder I couldn't find it tonight to post in it.

Stab? I found it flattering. I was totally with the guy who thought I was a cosmic being of incomprehensible intelligence. He underplayed it a little... but I can let that slide.

I just wanted to add that all the writers are awesome.

DAO is my game of the year, 2009. I might even make an "Expansion to the ComTrav Game of the Year!" sticker for copy of Awakening.

Really interested to see more from you all!

Writers of Dragon Age, thank you for rescuing me from a world of repetitive gameplay and uninteresting characters. There have been many great games in the the past few years but yours has stolen my interest away from them and refuses to return it. You've made me fall in love with gaming all over again.

If you ever find yourself out here in Baltimore, drinks are on me.

I have a question Mr. Gaider. It was recently said by a Bioware employee that the writers have begun work on DA2. I was just wondering if that was true, and how is it coming along? If you are unable to answer the question, then I understand completely.

I cannot comment on unannounced projects, sorry!

Mr. Gaider, I have a question if you will. Is Alistair Fiona's son? In which case Goldanna isn't really his sister at all. Or is he still out there somewhere?

And I'm going to leave this one to speculation, at least for now -- as I've mentioned elsewhere.

I guess this is my non-answer post. Image IPB

I'll take that both as "yes", thank you

@Ferret: if i remember correctly, you said you wrote a huge part of the Alienage? There is this little girn you remember from one of the Origin story (i hope you understand without having me spoiling), i wonder if there is really no way to engage in conversation with her and if so, why this was never done?

Would be nice to be able to give her some coins if you knew her story?

If i was mistaken and that was none of your business, i apologize.

Anyway, i want to give my kudos to you for making this game and story so amazing.

I want to jump in and say thanks to all the DA writers. Every single one of you. The world and story you've written and the characters you've brought to life are simply amazing. There is so much to experience, so much depth, you can tell that everything was crafted by people who cared very much about what they were creating. It really does come through.

So lattes all around, I'll even spring for donuts and cookies! Thank you for giving us Dragon Age and letting us be a part of this amazing world. <3

Ack, I didn't mean to give the impression that I wrote a lot of the characters in the Alienage - just the beggars and Ser Otto, really. The "filler" characters and side quests here and there are what I worked on. :)

Hey, but Ser Otto ir really cool, he's the only templar i liked throughout the game (he was more human and caring and less fanatic), whereas the rest...:pinched:
And before the Alistair fans start bashing me, he's a Warden to me, no templar^_^

So it was you Ferret who wrote that, Very good work. Like I said, it had me laughing as I read the banter, when I realized just what was going on with it.

I'm just astounded by the amount of stuff I keep uncovering in subsequent playthroughs. Like the indignant templar that guards the dock at Lake Calenhad. I'd always just intimidate the guy and get by, but I was goofing around with my dialog options and the conversation drifts to something along the lines of "I want something to eat" --- suddenly Sten produces a cookie from out of nowhere and claims he took it from a child "for the boy's own benefit," or something. I was floored.

I didn't like Sten's straightforwardness much on the first playthrough, but he's quickly becoming one of my favorite characters.

"My parents are especially dead."

There have been SO MANY points in this game where I literally laughed out loud. Unexpected dialogue, funny situations, just a depth to this world that sucks you in so completely. Amazing, amazing job.

Kudos.

If it were up to me alone, of course we would go elsewhere. If you look at Origins as a baseline, we've introduced a world and in the future you would want to show the player what else is out there now that their familiar with the basics. It's easy to compare a setting like this to the Forgotten Realms or to Middle Earth, but one has to rememeber that it took multiple stories/adventures for those settings to reach the level of coverage that they achieved. We'll get there, with any luck.

Naturally it never is up to me alone, so the question is mostly academic.

I hope your opinion weighs heavily on the decision then. I'd hate Bioware playing it safe and be afraid to change the setting when there is a chance. "Too many people emotionally involved with the characters and places, so might as well do it all over again not to alienate our fans. Let us not disappoint their expectations of DA being like Mass Effect with a continuous storyline".....:(

I love variety, I would be overjoyed if a sequel not only took place in a country (countries? :P) other than Fereldan, but also in a completley different time period.
Although I realize technically that wouldn't make it 'Dragon' Age :P

I hear ya. But take a look at any thread about Dragon Age sequels, there are tons of people (probably more than half) who actually think you're going to be playing the same Warden forever and having more or less the same companions with you. It worries me Bioware might succumb to peer pressure in this.

I would not say they're thinking or expecting this, they're just hoping this.
And that, in turn, is a huge compliment for the writers, as players have fallen so deep for the characters that they want to keep them and learn more about them even after finishing the game. I know many games where after finishing, players are only eager to see more and different places and characters and don't realy care about the old any more. That BioWare has managed to get so many players so attached to it's fictional characters is impressive and a real virtue for the DA franchise imo. Some of the most entertaining and successful poducts of entertainment history have build upon consecutive storytelling, while others have failed.
Of course, both ways have it's charms, and in the end, both depend on individual taste. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next i guess

Never before except my On Line character which I worked at for years, have I've been attached to any character like I am the ones in this game.

Look at the board and see how different people feel about different characters.

This really has to say a lot about the writing team that worked there little fingers to the bone, comeing up with banter for all those characters.

Sure it was a team effort, but yet, you know that they also got attached to the ones that they where writing the dialog for.

Tell me team, what ones out of all the ones you did, are you attached to the most.

PS: Is there any way we can sticky this thread to that others know it's around and can come in and give there thanks also?

After all the credits we have given to the writers of DAO, i just wanted to give my thanks to the dlc team. I have just finished RtO (don't worry, i won't spoil a thing) and i just wanted to say:
Awesome work, i enjoyed it a lot and it really grapped me. It was definetively worth the wait, and i just wanted to say: after all the bashing and bad comment's the delay has provoked from "fans" within the community, thx for that awesome dlc and keep up the good work. :wizard:

Well...I'm brand spanking new to these forums, but I wanted to ask a question. I have two friends, a married couple in fact, who both work for BioWare: Chris and Jenny Heppler. I was wondering what parts of the game story they contributed to.

This is a brilliant work, and I look forward with great anticipation to both Return to Ostagar and Awakening.
