I  have never played any Mass Effect game and have done little research on them,as I do not want to spoil it for myself.
A few questions:

Is the roleplaying similar to Borderlands,or do you have more freedom like say Fallout ?

How many hours of content is there, how many hours would it take to complete everything there is to do in all three games ?

What is the replay value ?

Is gameplay and cut-scenes balanced or is there more than the other(like MGS4) ?

Do I need to be signed into PSN to play the DLC or once you download it can it be played offline ?

Does the Mass Effect Trilogy pack include all current patches(PS3) ?

dont know what it is like compaired to the 2 games you mentioned as ive never played them, but ive spent probably over 1500 hours of my sorry life playing the mass effect series an loved every moment of it

Mass Effect 1 can take between 50 - 60 hours
Mass Effect 2 - id say between 20 - 30 hours
Mass Effect 3 - between 15 - 30 hours

It all depends on how you play it, my first play throughs are the longest as i get to grips with the game an after that well like anything it becomes refined an well you know what to f]
do, each game has huge replay factor for me personally as i like each game for its own merits.

ME1 is the most RPG'er of the series with me2 an me3 more combat an me3 basically being an interactive movie with (in my opinion) to many cutscenes, but as i said there all good games in there own right all with moments that i will keep with me for a long time.

Combine all my characters from the 3 games and ive got over 50 characters so that tells you of the replay value to myself, but the replay value will be down to yourself and if you enjoy it.

I dont know much about the PSN but as far as im aware you need to be signed in to play the dlc for atleast me3, but theres others who could answer that better than me so dont take what i say granted for it

I'd say the roleplaying is very similar to Borderlands except when you talk to NPC's you have an option of 2 or 3 choices of what you want to say to them. It's usually a paragon, renegade, or neutral choice and of course you also get the option to ask them more questions before choosing what you want to say. The cutscenes are pretty balanced and your usually not disconnected from gameplay like in MGS4. Now I have the PSN version of ME1 and it comes with one DLC and you don't have to be connected to PSN to play the game.
As for ME2 it comes with every DLC except "Arrival" and when ever you play the game you'll be prompted to login I think you can ignore it and play any way. As for ME3 I think it only comes with the code to play online not any DLC. But when ever you put the disc in for ME3 you are prompted to login to PSN.
The game trilogy has a pretty big replay value considering you'll want to make different decisions on another play through or romance a different squad mate. You'll also want to try and fix mistakes or try to keep certain squad mates alive that died. I'd recommend buying it you get most of the DLC for all the games except ME3. I'm not sure about the trilogy containing all the patches because I bought the games as they were released. Hopefully more people answer this question.

Yeah enjoy the games. I bought the trilogy recently and I love them. You just have to realise that you pay as much for the DLC as for the whole game. So unless you have enough money to spend, inform yourself about what DLC is the best. I bought Lair of the Shadowbroker, Stolen Memory and the Firepower pack for ME2. Those are nice so definitely worth buying.
Stolen Memory gives you a new squad mate and a very good SMG. Firepower gives you excellent weapons too. Lotsb is considered one of the best ME DLC's with a long and enjoyable mission. Plus it also gives you the possibility to respect your squadmates.

As far as I know, all DLC offered in the trilogy and patches are included on disc so you wouldn't have to redeem any codes or download anything (unless you want extra DLC).

I only got ME1 off of the PSN and that included Bring Down the Sky DLC with the game.

What. ME1 is 12-30 hours. That game does have better replay than the other two however. 2 is 20-45 hours but has terrible replay. 3 is 15-35.

Just bought this Trilogy set. Playing Mass Effect 1. About twenty hours in through two plot planets, I can easily see this game taking upwards of sixty hours to complete. Granted I tend to take my time when I play RPGs. I have it for PS3 and I believe the only DLC not on disc is the Cerberus Network and the Extended Cut for the ending of ME3.
