If I buy the first 2 mass effect games on steam and the third one on origin will I be able to import my saved character from the second game to the third game?

Yes. The games save to your "My Documents/BioWare/" directory and have nothing to do with Steam/Origin, other than the latter copying your saves to the cloud (backups, in case you lose your saves).

You don't have to buy ME3 on Origin, you can buy it wherever you like. Digitally it's solely distributed via Origin. Other than that every retailer should have a copy.

you can buy the me3-key wherever you want ... just enter the code in your origin interface and the game downloads by itself.

What they said. You will probably find it cheaper elsewhere. You can just buy the game somewhere else, as it requires origin anyway.

Plus, from what I can see, Origin offers a 50% discount today (in Germany it's already the 25th) on almost all games, so you might want to wait a bit if you're in the US or a timezone that is still on the 24th. That is if they also have Advent Calendar offers there. The Mass Effect trilogy therefore only costs 25 € today and you'd have ME1-3 on Origin. Or if you already bought ME1 & 2 on Steam, you can still buy ME3 for 14,99 € / $ 14,99 (provided your Origin store has the same discount on the 25th as well).
