No, a sequel doesn't need to be a direct continuation, as evidenced by a badzillion game sequels in the world that aren't. I think I'd prefer a brand new game in the same world than a continuation anyway. Low level development of characters is always more interesting than powerhouses for me.

That resolution may happen in an expansion. However, I don't see how any resolution can be satisfying to all people. There are times the absolute best ending is to leave something hanging.

The sequel will be different characters in a different nation, like Orlais. Of that I'm sure.

I'm under the assumption that origins refers to the six different origins you can choose to play at the beginning of the game.

Ya know, funny thing about mass effect is how it makes people think all bioware games are going to have 'continuations' of stories in sequels...

*sighs*

It's a wishful thought that any good game or book has instilled on everyone who plays/reads em. They find it so entertaining and they wish the entertainment would never end. That and there are hints of loose ends which always get hopes up of "continuing the saga" to tie those up.

I'd be pretty disappointed. I'd rather continue with the character I'm playing with in DA1

Yeah, ME was a planned trilogy. BG>BG2 was a continuation, even allowing importing the same character to build upon, but the low level BG character made it easy to continue to build upon that development. DA:O's main character by the end, is a pretty powerful Warden. It'd be crazy to have it go too far, especially since Awakenings is going to up the level and it's not even to a sequel yet.

I don't see the need for DA2 to be a direct sequel. I think it more likely it's set 20-30 years ahead in a different nation. And beyond that, this is really a topic that belongs in the spoiler forum, because the 'why' of this can't be posted here.

And have the level cap go up to 150 by the end of the series, where every monster you fight in every battle is more powerful than the Archdemon?

I'm going to be disappointed if following the expansion we don't have access to the original characters for grouping, which looks like it is going to be the case. My prediction is following the expansion, all DLC will be done with the new companions.

SPOLERS READ AT OWN RISK!!!!!!!

Which doesn't make me very happy, unless their is resolution with your romantic interests (being Leliana, Zevran, Alistair). I highly doubt there will be resolution with Morrigan (if ever) until the expansion.

END SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactamundo, which is why in my opinion after the expansion that should be it for the Warden other than DLCs for that and the OC. Any sequel should move to another location and brand new character, new companions with maaaaybe the odd tiny cameo appearance of OC characters that can last that long

That is another good point. I want to continue my warden in a sequel, but it is looking more and more like that will not happen, which is even more discouraging. Grow attachments to characters and companions only to see them go *poof* dead and gone with nothing but their memories.

I think it would be neat in the sequel if you could hand down an item or something from a cleared game file of the first game, (if that made sense).

I don't mind a completely new cast, but would be cool to see the original characters around the world.

Well I think I'll get my Continuation in Awakening. so hopefully I'll feel fufilled with that and be able to move on to a new character in DA:2 DA seems to be moving in a sort of Elder Scrolls directions.

The one thing I don't understand about the DA:A is it takes place at some point after the events of DA:O. And I believe so peoples characters died so how do they plan to do that?

This, I'm slowly starting to deal with it, so long as I get my fulfillment (resolution) then I might be able to deal with it.

To those worried about how your character if imported would be ridiculously powerful bioware could just have you start at level 1 for the sequels new system but still keep your apperance and choices intact. I understand why People would have problems with direct continuation but really thats how the ending seemed to set it up. Was the morrigan ******* spoiler******** just a bone or dose it foreshadow future events. I dont know but goddamnit I will miss shale.

Probably foreshadowing future events that a new character would have to deal with. In which case, I might have all my characters make that choice, just to keep it interesting.

No. As long as the game and story is good is good I really don't care. I would be fine with the Elder Scrolls approach (where hundreds of years separate the stories).
