The biggest difference i find is the harsh transition in terms of loadouts, when i first started playing gold around a month after release i tried packing a vindicator and predator on a no fitness adept and thought i'd do fine, i was wrong. Half of the uncommons you have will be useless, commons are unheard of. Stick to rare or above, also you characters that you're very comfortable with, try staying away from flimsy classes until you get the hang of it. I find krogan are well versed for helping to make the move, but beware, tou cant melee an atlas on gold and expect to take it down

When you have 5-6 medigel 5-6 ops packs and 5 rocket capacity unlocked you will have enough of a manifest to handle gold.

Just remember that the difference between a easy gold match vs a hard gold match is how well the team works together (stay with the group unless you feel the need to draw away fire). And don't be afraid to use rockets between waves 8-11, or to kill that last phantom that just wount die. Use consumables to give yourself a little more punch, if you feel that you need it.

Also making the transition here. I found that I can do it easily if I use certain preferred classes and weapons. Just make sure you have a few kits you are comfortable with.

I'm also on PS3 with a mic. PSN Razorhawkzor

Do it now.

Get your best character, make sure your build doesn't suck, use the best weapon for that class, equip your gear, and jump into a game.

More than likely, the other players will be carrying you. That's just part of PUGing though. Do your best to help out.

Just repeat to yourself "If I finish Wave 6, that's as many credits as all of Silver."

I disagree with the idea that you shouldn't go Gold unless Silver is a laugh for you.

I, for one, have a tough time now and then on Silver. In fact, unless I'm playing with one of my top kits (QMI, Destroyer, etc.), it'll be a challenge for me and I'll probably use a couple of Ops Survival packs or Medi-Gel. But that doesn't mean I'm a liability on Gold. I don't play Gold too often, but, whenever I do, I always get one of the top two scores (usually the top score) and have consistently been the one who needed to be revived the least. Bear in mind, I ALWAYS play PUGs and your team is a VERY important variable. All the more reason to understand that just because you've struggled on Silver now and then doesn't mean you can't possibly do well on Gold.

For example, I remember one time I played Silver Collectors with the Demolisher on London. I didn't make the extraction, mostly on account of my sh*tty team. Somehow, though, that counted toward the Earth challenges and I got my Survivor banner, which I wanted to sport on Gold. I then U/U/G'd a PUG on Gold with my QMI and got the Collectors on Rio. One of the people I was playing with got scared and bailed on us, never to be replaced by anyone, and whoever was hosting had a really crappy connection. In other words, all odds were against us (me, in particular). Guess what? We all made the extraction and I got the top score. All things considered, it was probably the best and most gratifying game I'd ever had on the ME3 MP. Even though, as a person who constantly struggles on Silver, I clearly wasn't Gold material.

Bottom line: just because you don't think Silver is easy as hell doesn't mean you shouldn't give Gold a try. Certainly, you should play with a kit that you can rely on to consistently and systematically get the top (or second highest) score on Silver without using a lot of consumables (a few is fine, though). Which I assume sounds just like your best character.

Also, it helps a lot if, like me, you're the kind of person who never uses any of the "hard" consumables (special ammo, weapon amp, armor/shields consumables) on Silver. Then, when you use them on Gold, they'll greatly cushion the otherwise bumpy transition.

imo it is actually easier moving from silver to gold, than it was to move from bronze to silver.

Well as a PC player used to switch to gold and silver when there was FBWGG farming. It was a peculiar map easy on gold. It's gone now (or it's rio now)

As far as I know, adepts can play even platinum almost barehanded, but I'm not an adept, so will check weapons and tech bursts.

Pure weapon power is semi decent from mattock and tempest uncommon guns at levels 7+, provided you throw in damage and ammo mods 2+. Good idea of first damage dealer char would be a tempest armed geth trooper soldier with no hunter skill, maxed for durability and flamer skill damage, filling flamer recharge moments with tempest fire.

Easiest source of damage is tech bursts. When you use ammo to either freeze, burn or electrocute the target, then once it sparkles - toss in a damage skill like conc shot, carnage etc.

Shiniest example of this is a krogan soldier geared for skill damage, with grenade pack gear equipped. Inferno nade followed by a carnage means a great deal of damage to a tight group of mobs without using any gun whatsoever.

Second best are incendiary ammo 2+ with chars that can do conc shots etc. Now I could say that initial human soldier rocks on gold and that I'd choose it a lot, but it takes a bit more skill and understanding of tricks of adrenaline rush to be usable.

Lastly I'd recommend batarian soldier with maxed health and blade armor, with b-blades specced for wide arc and explosion. Armed with shotgun like scimitar. (a bit weak but might do) The idea is to stay out of open places and battle round corners. Now when you see someone pass corner, you start working of combo that consists of different order of staggers from: b-blade impact, b-blade explosion, shotgun damage heap, your falcon punch. You have to try to combine and time these to keep enemy rocking and you doing damage. 2 hints: 1) your falcon punch animation is long, but during it you take almost no damage 2) bat soldier works best with shield adding gear and armor bonus - then he has at least some extra thickness to survive anything that breaks combos.

Generally, if you suck, try to stay closer to other players - at least you'll see what they do, add to their firepower aaand won't be so hard for them to revive.

Think these are all advices I could give. Of all the platinum capable players, I'm slightly below average, so keep looking for more pros to ask stuff.

Beating Silver Collectors whilst finishing in the top half of the scoreboard is probably a pretty good sign that you ought to go try Gold.

You can buy a bunch of recruit packs and get your Mantis up to X. Play an infiltrator with it and you can start Gold right away. As others mentioned, the only way to get good at gold is to play it. With an infiltrator and Mantis X you can start almost immediately. You will earn a lot of credits this way, compared to silver, and then you can start unlocking other guns and playing other classes as you feel ready. My advice, don't wait!

[edit]
If you are on Xbox, my friends and I will play gold with you. Send me a FR, same as my forum name.

You can add me...i usually do silver, but i'm pretty confident to do gold as well...i've cleared it quite a few times with a decent group (as long as i'm a slayer or phoenix vanguard)...so if you want to run a few waves, i'm up for it...:Blackgas7:

Try it and see how things go then decide for yourself, not sure what PUGS are like on PS, a good measurement is playing with friends, this way you can work together. PUGS are hit and miss on gold and other levels, some will really put your skills to the test and may not be a good place to start.....just my opinion

Personally, the first gold matches I ever did were farming. Some will say that's not "true gold" but I was able to see how enemy health and weapon damage compared to my own while still safe behind a counter. And this was back in the days of 100% shieldgate too.

That's not really an option anymore. But I would still encourage you to find an "easymode" gold setup (Giant Reapers perhaps) and try it out with some reliable friends (or pro volunteers if there are any). In fact my transition to normal gold matches came during that operation that made you extract on Reapers Gold. My friends and I got our best setups, did it on Giant and it went fairly well. After that we tried it again and again until we got used to it. Then we tried changing it up, different map, different enemy.

These days I'm comfortable doing U/U/G with just about anything. Except Collectors. **** Collectors.

When silver is too easy, it's time to go higher. I noticed that good silver player can be quite good on gold too. Just stick with the team and don't go rambo early.

As many have said, you just have to go for it. You may suck at first, but if silver is no big deal, you will learn quickly. A good team will finally become vital, however.

The only time that you can know when to go to gold is when you feel ready and you have some of the good gear, characters and weapons. I would suggest going into gold with friends first before doing gold pugs. Gold pugs can be brutal some days.

You know, when you don't die on Silver and you can't fathom not extracting.

Or, you just jump in Gold and play the hard way (die and learn) until Silver actually becomes that if you go back.
