Does the damage protection granted by Immunity apply to Health only or to Health and Shield?

Because I think only the Health bar turns white and the in-game description only mentions about Health.

I don't think Immunity has anything to do with shields - it only affects health.

It's only health. That said, dr is the best protection in the game. Combine immunity with Colossus X and pretend you are an unstoppable tank (because your are).

Actually how exactly does DR works in ME1? I play a fair bit of ME3 MP and I think I know how DR works there, but does it work a whole lot differently in ME1? Is it just a simple case of Damage_taken=Nominal_damage*(1-DR)? (It doesn't work quite like that in ME3 MP according to BSN.)

Here's a thread where I pulled over the information from the old forums on how weapon damage and damage reduction work.

http://social.biowar...1/index/5026848

Hope that helps, the links in there won't work since they shut down the old forums.

Basically though you apply each source of damage reduction to the incoming fire seperately.  For example.

Say you have master immunity (80% dr), you're wearing medium titan viii (51% dr) and you have an ablative coating vii (16% dr).  You take some incoming fire, that does say 1300 points of damage.  First you subract your shields in this case, 230 points leaving 1070 points of damage.  First apply the 80% reduction from immunity.  So 1070-1070*0.80 leaving 214 points of damage, then apply your armor to that or 214-214*0.51 leaving 104.86 points of damage, finally apply the ablative coating or 104.86-104.86*0.16 leaving 88.08 points of damage to your health.

In the most extreme case, say a soldier with Colossus x heavy and 2 energized plate x, shock trooper and fully developed armor skill it gets pretty amazing.

In that case the numbers from the same 1300 point attack, are like this.  450 points absorbed by shields leaving 850 damage. Immunity drops it to 170, armor drops that to 35.7, the first energized plate drops that to 27.5, the second energized plate drops that to 21, armor skill drops that to 16.8 and finally shock trooper drops that to 14.

As you can see it really kind of reaches a point of diminishing returns after the first couple of sources.

On the old forums there was a guy who posted something about his shock trooper soldier meleeing a thresher maw.  He survived something like 20 or 21 hits.

As opposed to the Mako which cannot even take one hit from a Thresher Maw.

Thanks very much for that! This will come in handy in my case because from your description DR helps a lot in mitigating damage to health, and I'm going for the Tactician trophy.

In that case I'd suggest a lower difficulty and going for some means of moderating weapons fire, mostly biotic lock down, or using sabotage early and often to keep from getting shot.
