Just saw the movie today. Overall it feels "meh" at best. It's not the best animated movie based off a video game, but not the worst. It doesn't really offer anything groundbreaking to the Mass Effect franchise, and ultimately makes me like Varga even less. However, I do have two cosmetic/artistic gripes that I wanted to voice in disappointment. While I don't think these gripes really take away from the movie, I do think they could have been done a whole lot better.

One of the things that bothered me is the brief "humans popping like a zit" scene, which was intended to portray the melting process seen in Mass Effect 2. We all know in Mass Effect, humans were being melted to be used to produce reapers. Well, in this movie, it instead showed them being popped in a rather ungratifying way. I was hoping for something a little...more (for lack of a better term)...than what we got. http://i.imgur.com/rPSww.gif

However, the thing that bothered me the most was Kamille and how she was used to create a Praetorian. Normally, I wouldn't complain...but the issue is that she doesn't even look like she was turned into a husk prior to being fused to the Praetorian. I can understand that they wanted to keep her identifiable within the group of cybernetic skulls. Perhaps their mindset is that since she was captured just 10 minutes prior, her body didn't have the time to fully undergo the flesh-to-cybernetic conversion. Regardless, they could have at least shown her skin being split to show a metallic underlay or something, similar to what happened to TIM towards the end of Mass Effect 3 (link). As is, her flesh and blood body being pasted in the center of the Praetorian's mouth just feels awkward, cheap, and ultimately makes no sense http://i.imgur.com/ERG6D.jpg

I know these are silly things to do a brief rant on, but I sincerely expected better. Again, these two gripes don't really take away from the movie. Rather, instead of taking away from the movie, they simply paint just how mediocre the movie was. If you're a Mass Effect fan, then I'd say go ahead and grab a copy for about $20 or so. It's definitely worth watching at least once if you've played through the trilogy.
