"IGN: Origins has been supported by a large amount of DLC from
launch. The most recent of which, Return to Ostagar, has been delayed
until the end of January at the earliest. Is there any explanation as
to why the delay occurred? Is it solely to release the DLC for all
three platforms at the same time, or was there another issue?

Fernando Melo:No, it has nothing to do with platforms
themselves. It's a quality issue where, literally, at the last minute,
we spotted something that had made it through our own testing, EA's
testing and was at Microsoft already. But it applies to all three
platforms; it wasn't something specific to Microsoft, we just happened
to catch it there first. We probably could have gone with it, but it's
something that was serious enough that we felt it impacted the quality
[of the DLC] and we made the choice to delay it to give our fans the
best experience with it. That was the reason behind [the delay] -- we
want to make sure that we don't cut any corners when we do the DLC.
There's already a lot of content out, there's a lot more coming -- we
just announced the expansion pack, and there's more coming after that.
I think the worst thing we could do after that is do anything "to
poison the well," to use the expression, or put fans off from feeling
that they're getting the best content from us. It's a long term
decision instead of a short term decision"

Why wouldn't BioWare give us the information first? Why go to another website to give the fans information like this? Why not just post a thread here?

Why?

Most of us dont need to be coddled? Frankly, i dont care why it was delayed. If Bioware wants to hold it back to tweak and polish, fine with me. I am eager to play it and have had the points purchased since it was first announced but i would much rather wait and have the usual quality than get it sooner and have a lesser product.

At least Bioware are honest enough to say, "Yep, we ballsed up. We're fixing it. We're not doing it to be jerks, we're doing it becasue we take pride in our work" - you have to respect that.

this info was given somewhere throughout the hundreds of posts about the delay.  several bioware devs commented on quality issues prior to release.

Well the end of January speculation came about due to the thinking they wanted to release the PC/360 alongside with the PS3. If it's one issue and indeed it's not to make it alongside the PS3, then I can't see it taking to the end of January. It's obvious it wasn't anything major as they considered releasing it as it was.

Won't it be .........interesting, if the delay to fix the non-console specific problem delays it until, by sheer coincidence, the PS3 version is ready?

I'm actually starting to think it might just get released right before the expansion, sort of here is something to wet your appetite with while you wait a few weeks.

Unfortunately, by holding off this dlc until the end of January, they've basically guaranteed that many, including myself, won't be purchasing it. Why? Because I'll be too busy playing Mass Effect 2. January 5 was a fantastic release date, because it's the only lull in game releases for the next 4-5 months. I'd rather we received RTO with whatever bug was plaguing it with a guarantee that we'd receive a patch at a later date.

When it is released is actually irrelevant, the main issue is the DLC being polished enough to satisfy the Whiniest of us.

And please try NOT to pin Bioware down to a release date.

They originally planned RtO to be released before Christmas in order to take advantage of the holiday shopping spree. The biggest long-term problem with this delay is that the time and money they spend debugging RtO is time they could not spend on creating the next DLC.

I'm not a big Mass effect guy (never finished the first one, not a big 'shooter' guy) so it won't affect me. But I know many of my friends will not purchase the DLC if it comes to late because they will be busy doing multiple playthroughs of Mass Effect 2. When they finish there will maybe be a week or two until Awakenings (or so they have told me) so they won't bother.

The smart thing then is to release it before that week.

I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate here, and point out that it is IGN who said the end of Jan date, not the Bioware guy.

well at least thay finaly gave a beter answer than ("its delayed ")   but i do think shuting down the thread that people was complaning is is bs and stamping on free speach. i know this is a privat thing and thay can do that but still you make a place for people to ask you questions and voice what thay think then you shut it down and say its cus of spam. but what it looks like is are fans are mad at us and telling us i dont want to hear it shut them up. not cool bio not cool at all

well I'm fine with them taking as long as it takes to release good quality value for money DLC .. but I'd really appreciate it if they'd fix the addon page to 'coming soon' rather than 'available now' coz that's just misleading ...

There's already a big thread discussing this same interview and the RtO DLC here. No need for another at the moment, with the same info.

Coddled? How is it coddling, to inform the Official Dragon Age Forum before some third party site like IGN.com?

I don't care for DLC, and have no intention of purchasing any DLC for Dragon Age, but obviously (based on the amount of threads about the delay) a ton of BioWare fans are interested in the details of the delay.

Obviously the easiest way for BioWare to communicate with its fans is via this website. Why would they post pertinent information on IGN's website before they share that same information on their own site? It kind of defeats the purpose of having a Dragon Age website. Or at least it defeats the purpose of having developers post in the forums, if we can get better info from IGN.
