Meh even if it was it is a pain to transfer saves since they are locked.

And yeah, meh. Most of the users will still hold their PS3s, it is unlikely many people going to buy used PS3s when 4th one is near.

Weren't the newer PS3's non-backwards compatiable as well?
Yep, too bad they don't make them anymore.

And I was a free agent, too.
You weren't before? Did you sign a contract with Sony for the PS3?

yes and no - they were backwards compatible with PS1 games but not PS2 games (yet still had the function to create virtual memory cards for PS2)legion999 wrote...

Sony removed the PS2 playing ability (reportedly) because
1) The hardware to duplicate the PS2 within the PS3 was too expensive
2) Some Gamers were not buying PS3 games because they were too busy playing PS2 games

This is why I moved to PCs, each time it gets worst with consoles because of Sony and Microsoft restricting everything.
I'm no console advocate, but I really do not like downloading a client *cough* spyware everytime I want to buy a new video game.

I get that, and you're right at least as far as I'm concerned but at least to the PCs benefit you don't have to deal with someone who thinks they own your platform and want to tell you what to do and how to do it. Modding is another reason why I moved to PCs, people should be allowd to play their games however they want but Sony and Microsoft won't allow that simply because they can't make money off of it and if they did they money would most certainly be involved.

If the Valve system ends up being digital only though with the rights in there name. I think I'll be done with gaming. Its not worth it when you no longer own the items you buy.

I hope there isn't a next Xbox system, that way we don't even have to worry about it.Faust1979 wrote...

Not surprised in the least if its true. Ah well wait and see what Microsoft is cooking. The Wii U really isn't that much of an improvement over the wii imo. Moving on from that, maybe I'll get the "steam box" as for one I don't care to build a gaming PC, and two locally its a pain in my rump to get componets.

I also hope the hard drives for the PS4 will have huge space at launch (compared to the 20 GB and 60 GB models for the PS3 at launch.)

If it is backwards compatible, great. If not, I'll hold on to my PS3.

platter storage is so cheap these days it really wouldn't be too expensive to have a 750gb or even 1tb drive in there. And if developers do start moving to a lot of digital download titles then we're going to need ample space to be able to hold large game libraries.

PlayStation and Xbox have their next-gen problems, unfortunately. Backwards-compatibility issues for PlayStation and used/downloadable game issues for Xbox. If these rumors turn out to be true, I might have to buy a better laptop or desktop to play games.
I can safely say from all I've seen in the case of the Xbox, its not true. It'll have backwards compatability and the new format will be blueray. If I had any problems with the 720, be it facts or figures, its the fact its much better and larger dual-core CPU, and an over all much better chip set (if what they want to use is used the 720 will be equal to a mid to low high end gaming PC) is the fact half of the CPU will be devoted to F'n Aps. Rather than allowing an option or being a beast (in terms of consoles) they want you to use the aps.
Its as they said in recent interviews "We want to control your living room." Its not purely a game sytem so much as a multimedia platform. I'm sure thers were a bigger digital setting will come in. Makes me wish the sun will crap on a few bits of our tech the coming year.
As to the WII U Its outdated right out of the box. Given its early release you can bet Sony and MS are looking at what it can do and going "Ha we'll beat that." Problem with Sony is the way its system is going as with its overall market I think its being built like that on purpose.
So while it will be a hit in Asia and adabtable to its markets, it will flop in the west, so they can use it as a reason to cut out the western Market which minus western devs, hasn't been kind to Japanese Devs in recent years. Plus it would be a huge cost cut for them. And would cost them nothing in Japan. What will take Sony's place there? Nothing. Heck PC gaming is primarilly used for Porn Games there, and not one single Western PC game has ever caught on there, or the PC as a mainstream gaming system.
As to the PC, meh I just don't care to invest my time and money. And Steams BS (nvm all the other DIgital DLers and spyware) on owning your properties really turns me off from them. At the same time PC titles are hard to find in my area. That is hands on copies. Honestly the Next Gen might make this Gen my last Gen. I'm sure I'll find another, and maybe cheaper hobby.

Either way, when new systems are usually released, they never have good games to play. I won't even be looking at buying either system until some good RPGs start coming out, which is usually two or more years after release.
