Die Timeline strotzt nur so vor Fehlern - vor allem in Bezug auf die Romane The Calling und Asunder.

Oder: Cumberland liegt nicht am Minanter River.

Oder: Waren die Clayne nicht ein erster Konzept-Name für die Alamarri, anstatt ein Alamarri Stamm? (vgl. Calabria und Antiva)

Es gibt noch ein paar solcher Stellen und Ungereimtheiten.

Das mit der Timeline finde ich allerdings richtig enttäuschend. Und was mich persönlich geärgert hat: keine genaue Hierarchie der Templer und Sucher! Naja, dafür gab es aber die Ränge der Grauen Wächter und des Adels von Orlais.

Fazit:

Flavour-Texte - 10/10 - spaßig zu lesen
Inhalte 7/10 - ein paar Ungereimtheiten, ein paar Lücken, dennoch ausreichend Neues
Timeline 5/10 - Idee und Optik gut, dennoch ein paar dicke Fehler

Ich bin noch nicht ganz durch - aber bislang habe ich keine Erwähnung der Fex gefunden. Bei der Beschreibung Par Vollens ist nur von einer alten Menschenkultur, den Vollen, die Rede. Diese wurden quasi die ersten Viddathari in Thedas. Es deutet sich allerdings an, dass die Vollen schon früher gehörnte Hünen verehrt hatten - vielleicht die alte Rasse der Kossith, bevor daraus die Qunari wurden. Wer weiß.

Apropos Kossith: Man erfährt, dass die Kossith (oder sagen wir mal Proto-Qunari) schon vor der ersten Verderbnis (-410 Ancient) an der Südostküste Fereldens (Korcari Wildnis) gelandet waren und eine Kolonie gegründet hatten. Diese wurde dann während der Verderbnis von der Dunklen Brut vernichtet ...

... und jetzt wissen wir auch, wie die Oger nach Thedas kamen. Elegante Lösung.

Bin ganz deiner Meinung wegen der Templer Hierarchie. Langsam wäre es mal an der Zeit gewesen, Klarheit in die Ränge bei Templern und Suchern zu bringen. Enttäuschend, dass dazu kaum Infos kamen.

Die Timeline ist eine klasse Idee aber mit so vielen Abweichungen von Romanen und Kanon, dass sie am Ende für die Katz ist. Sehr schade.

Insgesamt bin ich aber trotzdem happy mit dem Buch, weil auch richtig was für's Auge dabei ist und man auch neues erzählt bekommt.

Naja, man muss aber kein Hardcore-Fan sein, wenn die Fehler so offensichtlich sind. Vorne ist eine Map, auf der Cumberland eingezeichnet ist. Da hätte einem auffallen sollen, dass die Stadt nicht am Minanter River liegt.

Das Buch IST doch der offizielle Kanon. Das Ding wurde zusammengestellt aus dem internen Wiki von BioWare selbst. (Nachdem das mal aufgeräumt wurde, nachdem sich scheinbar redundante Elemente eingeschlichen hatten.) Wo genau liegt denn nun auf der Timeline der Fehler?

Nunja, man kann nur erahnen, wie unübersichtlich die internen Lore-Aufzeichnungen waren, bevor sie endlich in ein Wiki gepackt wurden. Ich erinnere mich noch an ein Interview mit David Gaider, in dem er seine Überraschung und Verwirrung zum Ausdruck brachte, dass die Level Designer einen Friedhof in das Redcliffe-Level setzten. (Weil Chantry-Anhänger ihre Toten ja verbrennen.)
Von daher kann es ja sein, dass der Nevarra-Text, der mit Sicherheit von jemanden anderem Geschrieben wurde als demjenigen,d er die Thedas-Karte entwarf, aus einer Quelle stammt, die alt genug ist, dass Thedas ind er jetzigen Form noch gar nicht gezeichnet wurde.

Hach, redundante Datenbanken sind schon was nerviges. XD Gott sei Dank hat jemand das Wiki erfunden.


P.S.: Die Tatsache, dass auf dem Buch so schön "Volume 1" prangert, lässt durchaus hoffen, dass in ein paar Spielen die Templer-Hierachie doch noch in Buchform so veröffentlicht wird. XD

Jein. Die Comics und Romane haben ihren eigenständigen Kanon. Und mit denen widerspricht sich die Timeline.

"The Calling": Die Timeline strafft die Ereigisse auf vier Jahre - 9:10 bis 9:14 Dragon.
"Asunder": Die Ereignisse werden alle im Jahr 9:40 Dragon angesiedelt.

Nunja, man kann nur erahnen, wie unübersichtlich die internen Lore-Aufzeichnungen waren, bevor sie endlich in ein Wiki gepackt wurden.

Klar, das war vermutlich ein Chaos. Dennoch hieß es, man habe alles gründlich geprüft ...

@templer da wird sich bestimmt einiges verändern vielleicht wird deswegen noch gewartet. Mich interessieren aber mehr Drachen, Griffons und die dunkle Brut

World of Thedas – Volume 1: An Errata by Brother Genitivi

I once gave a lecture at the University of Orlais on the conflict between fact and belief.

“Gathering accurate information is challenging in a place as vast and fragmented as Thedas,” I told the students. “Sources may conflict wildly.”

This portion of my lecture was excerpted in a recent encyclopedia entitled The World of Thedas. The author of this text is unnamed, and prefers it that way. But I know him. I have studied with him. And I can speak to his obsession with detail and objectivity, the latter being something with which I sometimes struggle.

You could say that his approach with regards to accuracy is “ruthless.”

But, as I said in Val Royeaux, ours is a large, complicated world. It is perhaps inevitable that a few errors survive numerous readings and are then committed to print.

With this in mind, here are a few points in The World of Thedas that, based on my studies and travels, warrant correction:

Page 12: The main text states that the First Blight lasted one hundred years. Most authorities agree that it was fought for 192 years. The timeline in the tome is correct.

Page 12: The timeline states that the Old Gods whispered to humanity from the Black City in -2800 Ancient. At this time, the legendary city would still be known as “The Golden City,” as it was not yet sullied by the presence of men.

Page 126: The timeline also states that in 8:45 Blessed, the Fereldan nobility continued a “guerrilla war against the occupying Orlesians, led by Brandel’s daughter Moira.” While the Rebel Queen Moira did eventually lead the war, she was born after 8:45 Blessed.

Page 136: The timeline puts Celene’s birth at 9:6 and her ascension at 9:20, making her, according to the timeline, fourteen when she became empress. However, the main text says she was sixteen when she took the throne. By all accounts, the main text is correct. Celene was born in 9:4 Dragon.

Page 141: There are rumors in some circles of an intelligent darkspawn known as the Architect, who attempted to unearth and kill the remaining Old Gods and taint the entire surface world. Though the timeline says 9:14 Dragon, most reliable sources state these events actually occurred in 9:10 Dragon.

Page 146: The timeline states that Bhelen Aeducan was the middle child of King Endrin Aeducan. He was actually King Endrin’s youngest child.

Page 157: The main text says that the darkspawn sacked Minrathous in 1:31 Divine. While it is true that Minrathous nearly fell during the Second Blight, the infamous heart of the Imperium has never actually been taken. This is stated elsewhere in the book.

Page 176: In the glossary, the definition of Archon as Tevinter’s “monarch” is technically incorrect. It would be more accurate to call the Archon a “ruler.”

Page 177: The “First Warden” is the leader of the Grey Wardens at Weisshaupt. The glossary incorrectly states that he is the “Commander of the Grey.” I’m not sure what my peer was drinking when he wrote this one.

With these corrections, perhaps the record has now been set straight. I hope you have found the tome as enlightening as I have.
