I beat 2 and 3 with a soldier so don't suggest him I don't know wether the vanguard or sentinel the vanguard can use shotguns and later assault riflles which I love and in 2 can charge but the sentinel can do everything and tech armor is pretty awesome I'm gonna use the class for all 3 which should I pick and why?

Both classes are fairly different in ME1 than they are in latter games because there aren't any "trademark" abilities yet.

I liked Sentinel more than Vanguard in ME1, even though both are good. You get some of the best biotics, good tech, and Barrier. If you haven't played ME1 at all yet you won't be able to take a bonus talent, which includes weapon training (a reason many suggest playing Soldier first in ME1).

Vanguard is ok, but you don't have access to Barrier right away like you do with Sentinel. You do get Shotgun training, and Carnage is a decent power, but overall I just didn't have as much fun in that game with the Vanguard as the Sentinel. I think the best argument for playing Vanguard first might be unlocking Shotguns as a bonus power, which you could use on subsequent caster characters. Keep in mind that your first character in ME1 can never get a bonus power, since it is assigned when the character is created and not during NG+.

Either one is near the top of the power hierarchy in ME2 and ME3, just go about it differently.

Just expanding on the point about no trademark abilities in ME1 since the OP mentions tech armour, that means sadly there is no such thing as tech armour in ME1. In fact the closest thing to any of the ME2+ class abilities is adrenalin rush, and even that does something completely different (no time slow down, instead it resets all the cooldowns on your powers). Really the classes play so differently that I wouldn't even write off Soldier. It's probably more similar to the later games and has a shallower learning curve, which mightn't be a bad thing given the different controls and some game mechanics, but you'll likely pick your squad differently to playthroughs with other classes for a lot of missions.

If you are looking for an easy time, the Vanguard is the most consistently powerful class in the trilogy. It is apparently the strongest class in ME1, easily #2/3 in ME2, and convincingly #1 in ME3.

Never actually done a Vanguard runthrough, but I do like to play Sentinel/Engineer/Infiltrator just so I can handle the unlocking/repairing myself. Any other Shep requires you to bring along someone with tech skills to handle it. Which is not necessarily a problem, but I just like having the wider choice of companions to take.

Sentinel is a very good all around class and both are on par in ME1. I prefer vanguard in 2 and 3, just because charge is so much fun!

If you've never done a vanguard playthrough, especially of the latter games, get on it OP becuase you're missing out...

I used the sentinel in all three. It is much stronger in ME2. In ME1, however, you do not get tech armor. Instead you will get barrier which is decent if you choose Basteon (advanced class of sentinel). And in ME3, the sentinel is still very good. Tech armor is just not as great as it was in ME2 though.

I have'nt played as a vangaurd yet, but I'm preaty sure it doesn't have biotic charge in ME1.

If you want my opinion I would go with the sentinel first and then vanguard.

Nope, there is no charge in ME1.

The advantage of Vanguard is that you get Shotguns and Adrenaline Rush (which is not like ME2, it resets all your cooldowns in ME1).
