I've never really understood why people think removing the Catalyst improves things so much.

in fact .. kids like cruel and dark endings more than adults .. grimms tales are the perfect example. they are dark, brutal .. and kids love them ... they are fascinated.

grown ups like happy endings, because they are a contrast to our sh**ty life.

Happy endings are lame and only children like them so much. Nothing is ever cut and dry and the original ME3 endings are a testament to that. The only thing I'd change is to have previous decisions have a greater influence in what or how it happens.

Spoken like someone who just recently outgrew the Disney channel.

However, the Extended Cut endings are indeed distastefully jolly, what with Shepard becoming the 'guardian' of the universe so everyone will play nice for ever after. Or everyone becoming half robot and living forever with 'perfect understanding' so they will not fuss and fight, with Shepard's 'essence' everywhere, in the whispering winds and the laughter of children. Even a genocide goes unmentioned.

The MEHEM, by contrast, is an appropriately serious, somber finale for a story of triumph tinged with the sorrow of loss. It might be called the Happy Ending Mod, but a more fitting name would be the Bittersweet Done Right Mod.

Wooot?!?! An orange ending with more plot holes than a pair of fishnet tights. Just what is needed.

right...The ending should have been that when shep stepped up to the catalyst, the universal elements realigned themselves. Red for Fire. Blue for Water. Green for earth. Yellow (shepard) for air. this turns off the reapers programming and everyone lives happily ever after.

what additional plot holes?

since the catalyst is the character who rips holes into the plot, no additional ones were added. furthermore, your best friends within the games are no longer retconed. i.e. garrus who suddenly follows orders and leaves shepard behind .. "there is no shepard without a vakarian", really? those characters act totally ooc.

how did the rest of the squad get onto the normandy? .. the only ones who were picked up by joker, were the ones injured. why are they on gilligans planet? the normandy took off to space after the extraction.
in fact, it suddenly makes sense, if the normandy stays in the sol system. one plot hole sealed.

not explaining something for the sake of explaining, is not adding a plot hole.

Wow, this is actually a really good ending. That last scene of Shepard putting Anderson's name up on the Normandy's wall is really touching and honestly more emotional than watching the crew put up Shep's name. Poor Shep, Anderson really was like a surrogate father to 'em.

My biggest problem, the Crucible still exists.

Yeah...the Crucible is a bit of a trickier issue than the Catalyst.

Yep.  It doesn't take a genius to figure out how to not make a sucky ending.  YouTube is doing a better job for free.

Geee, no! While it gives a certain level of satisfaction to some fans (mostly those who consider a - imo dull - traditional hollywood-school happy ending good), but it is no way a creative or epic way to end a trilogy of this magnitude. Even if Bioware dismissed the current ending and decided to write and produce a new one, I would like to see them create something a lot less generic, cliched to death and a lot more creative, innovative and interesting... emphasis on the "lot".

Yeah, just look at all the laughing, cheering and fistpumping at that memorial scene.  And Shepard has entirely too big a grin on his face.  Way too cheerful.  I think I saw an Ewok among the crew too.

Funny, 'cause that ending is the Synthesis scene just replacing the LI with Shepard and EDI with the LI Image IPB

But in any case, I'll take cheese over vinegar any day of the week.

I'll take cheese over atrocious writing.

It is a hard concept for some. Bad writing doesn't equal unhappy ending. What ME3 has is bad writing. Good writing and unhappy endings are brilliant. I'll take semi decent, spliced ending over god awful emo want to be ending any day that the semi-decent spliced ending is better written.

And to the god awful emo lovers - if it was well written, I would be happy to have an emo ending. Again, if it was well written.

The choices yes, and let's not forget to have actual choices that matter.
