My favorite part of gaming is playing a game when I'm first starting out. This might sound weird, but I like losing at first. That way I can laugh at it and just enjoy it as a game. For some reason when I have no or minimal understanding of a game that's when I get the most enjoyment out of it. That's when it just feels like a game. I just experienced it with Halo 4. I haven't played Halo since Halo 2 on the original Xbox. I got the same feeling of just laughing and playing the game. If I lose, I still have fun and if I win it's one heck of a bonus.
What type of feeling or situation do you enjoy most from games?
What's the most joyous aspect of gaming for you?

I'd agree to that only towards gameplay-heavy, uber-difficult games i.e. Dark Souls, I wanna be the guy, etc. I spent half of IWBTG laughing at the absurd challenges and the Platform-Pranking the developer did regarding the level design. This might sound weird, but I like losing at first. That way I can laugh at it and just enjoy it as a game.
As for my own, there's a few too many to count for that.
Secrets/Easter Eggs - I'll always be an exploring nut, and finding unexpected surprises(which may or may not involve a shifty looking cow) are always a delight. Banjo-Kazooie's Stop n' Swop Easter Egg thing drove me nuts as a kid. Same thing with Halo 2's skulls.
Immersion - For story-based games, I prefer something where I feel literally placed within that world. It doesn't necessarily require a first-person view - Arcanum & Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetzu were immersive due to the fantastic soundtrack & unique art style.
Humor - At least when it's done within the appropriate context, I don't mind a good chuckle. This works better for games that don't take themselves too seriously, throwing you in a more absurd fantasy world(Brütal Legend, Conker's BFD).
Emotional Resonance & Meaningful Storylines - Is game art? A question that's escalated in popularity. While most don't quite come close to that, I think video games have great opportunity for providing a narrative that holds a greater impact for the player than shooting an Alien in the face. Games that bring 'The Human Element" are ones I find particularly enjoyable - a few examples would be Heavy Rain, The Walking Dead, Planescape: Torment, Mother 3, and Majora's Mask.
Adrenaline - This is specific to drumming games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Drummania, etc. On the more difficult drumming songs(Anything thrash-y, punk, or otherwise high-tempo), it can be pretty blood-pumping. To that end, it's slightly addicting.

i remember back in elementary school, id open up someones city in the library's game of SimCity and just reek apocalyptic havoc upon its denizens.
Tornadoes, earthquakes, fires, Alien invasions, all happening at once. It was so fun.

hard to pick from (in no particular order):-
1) The elation of victory over a difficult task (preferably solved through my genius...)
2) the thrill of excitement and fast paced action
3) the joy of engagement in a "world" and it's people and progression through a story
4) the delight of discovery (finding a new area or secret or emergent gameplay or ...) and collecting
5) aesthetic pleasure from a game's visuals, soundtrack or humour (including absurdity of situations whether designed by the creators or through my own play)

I like learning a game's system and rules, especially in character building. While I like to read up on instructions, there is a lot of fun for me in leveling a character and trying out different skill sets. So I usually like to play through first with minimal spoilers to enjoy the plot, then I'll replay to optimize or try being a completionist.
On another level, playing degausses my brain and serves as a kind of meditation for me to think through ideas or problems on the back burner, but that only works when I game alone and in single-player games. Especially if I've had a stressful day, gaming helps calm my head down so I can sleep well.
