I like when I go back to something that was challenging when I first started playing a game and seeing how much easier it is.
What's the most joyous aspect of gaming for you?

That always amuses me.
At first... "GAH, THIS IS IMPOSSIBRU!!!! :crying:"
Later... "Lol, how the hell did I ever die doing this?"

Romancing characters, or making super sexy female PCs, like my Arisen in Dragon's Dogma.

I like fun gameplay, a good story, and a solidly crafted game, like most others do. But honestly, what actually provides 'joy' for me is getting a game with no stupid activation/limited activation DRM and no requirement to sign into an account or some sort of third party service, but one that just lets me install the damned thing and play it.
Sorry for getting onto a DRM mini-rant, but that's seriously the closest thing to 'joy' that I get from gaming right now.

To be surprised. If I walk into a game and everything I see is what I expected. Than I will be happy but, not in an awesome way.
For instance in A. Creed 3. The wildlife and the weather. That surprised me. The ship battle being awesome(Who don't want to be a piraye ? The snow and little thing like the squirrel climbing tree)
It's touch like this that make a game very enjoyable.
In Mass Effect 3 .. Some very touching moment. That surprised me. I knew ME3 was going to be good but, not that good.
In DayZ .. The whole mod surprised me. Because I entered it with little anticipation and made me discover ARMA2.
Some game manage to surprise me even when my overall enjoyment of the game was bleh.. Like FAR cry 3 shark attack and when you burn the marijuana.
NWN multiplayer. I wasted so many hours in a TEAM PVP server. The server community was tight and awesome.
Little thing like that.

Storyline is my favorite part. I have to have a reason to play the game. Good gameplay is a plus, but I always look for a reason to continue playing, a motive.

Hmm aspects you say? well... <Melodramatic voice> It's that feeling of anger & hopelessness you get after being killed over 3 dozen times by Theseus in GoW 2 on Titan mode. Afterwards there's the feeling of triumph, relief, and satisfaction when smashing Theseus's head into a bloody pulp in the doorway leading to Crono's altar.
Then comes the feeling of uncertainty when you realize that the Barabarian King is next. In short it's the bolded underlined after all the others.
