This logic is so flawed. They would do better giving us the race that statistically does the best, because more people would buy the game. For example, if Humans only made 20% of the population of races that people played, why would Bioware choose to head a human protagonist?

Wow, 800 people on a site I've never seen before.

That totally trumps their 3 million.

Once again, the forum community is not a representative sample of the community as a whole.

Personally, I hate playing as a human in rpgs (Except Mass Effect), especially fantasy based ones. I play the Elder Scroll Series and table-top, and to this day, I cannot and will not play as a human. It's like, "Yes, I want to play in a fantasy world, with fantasy elements, fantasy characters, and fantasy races, and end up playing as a human." I actually start most games over and pick a different race if I even try to play as one. In DAO, I didn't mind as much because they the dev team worked really hard to develop variation between even the human race (mage v. noble). Actaully my main character ended up being a human mage because of how well the developed the standing of the mages in the game universe. DA2 seriously lacked it. And after I beat it the first time, I had no urge to play it again.

I have no idea what that is, so insult fail.  I'm sorry, but I just can't be offended by the opinion of someone who lacks the intellectual capacity to see the difference between data collected from a large representative sample of user base and data collected from a small self-selected group of dedicated fans.

In case that was too complicated, I shall translate it into plebian:  A dumb person calling me dumb isn't insulting.  It's just sad.

You are correct in you point apart from it being the whole user base that Bioware got its data from. Some players turn off feedback or some players dont have internet connection.

So to say how the data Bioware has is the whole user base is as bad as saying the forums are the majority of fans.

I know people who won't play anything other than human, but I was hoping for a different playable background based on class. Or any playable background. It feels great to pick your characters story and define who they are, race is great since I always had a fondness of dwarves, especially DA dwarves. As long as they are part of the story and a companion I am happy. I agree though that if you have to play one protagonist it better be human, since many people dislike elves because they are too weak, and dwarves because they are ugly, any person who plays video games has played a human, so no one can object too much. It may not be great, but I understand the decision

Ah, Duke Harkonnen.  I read the Dune novels but never watched any of the movies.  And what's this, I'm a "chubby boy redneck who displaces his low intellect with every comment", eh?  I hardly think so.  And no, I've never watched American Idol, Hannah Montana or Twilight.  (Good job stereotyping me because I'm an American and showing what a bigot you are.)  I prefer to read mostly.  I did recently watch Sergei Bondarchuk's Война и миръ in its original Russian, though I required subtitles.  (That's "War and Peace" for my fellow English speakers.)

Mon ami, vous n'êtes pas la seule homme bilingue ici.

(Again a courtesy translation: "My friend, you are not the only bilingual person here.)

Tatsächlich, Ich bin fast dreisprachige.

("In fact, I'm almost trilingual.")  - German isn't easy though; I'm working on it.

Thanks for the correction, although I fail to see how some people not having an internet connection, or turning off the uploading would affect the results, since those people should be a fairly even distribution across the spectrum of players.  Also, judging by the fact that they received 3 million players' info, it's likely that the number of people who didn't submit any is quite small.  Again, I appreciate the correction, and will modify my original post to reflect that, but I fail to see how that small error is in any way equivalent to believing that a small sample of dedicated fans is representative of the entire community.

I really never saw the appeal to races with the way they were implemented in dragon age origins. After i played my background story the race made no difference. In retrospect i saw it as a waste of resources. I like this new path of where we have background story, social status and specialization influencing the plot and this reminds me of neverwinter nights to a certain extent.

I want race options as much as the next person, but it's a waste of time asking the devs to bring them back because they have no intention of doing so ("We might bring them back in the future," sure. I'll believe it when I see dates and names of specific games), so might as well find game designers that actually will.

the more we ask, the better, they might just listen

it's like with the LIBERTARIAN-FRATERNITY with the mages:

they might not be that many, but they are LOUD (and they are right in the end (in Asunder) as are we, with wanting them back and implemented more then they were in Origins!)

greetings LAX

While I disagree about not seeing the appeal of races, I love dwarves, especially social dwarves like in bioware, how I wish we could do more politicking with dwarves, and I think if you had to politick to romance a dwarf, like doing a proving to show you have a noble lineage, or arguing that they should leave being a duster and settle a fortune for them, it would make my day, but dwarves aside...

I am really excited about having a background and a specialization again, even if it is just flagged. I love the idea, although I think the backgrounds were mentioned quite a bit in DA:O. I felt the specializations were disapointing. I felt you at least needed to do a quest to get them, or prove your worth, and it made me groan that I could make Wynne a blood mage and practice it so openly. Even a bit of storyline nodding to it all would be amazing.

You are right that it would make almost no difference to the feedback they recieved and I agree with you about the forum polls meaning little compared to the game data Bioware recieved and I was probably being petty about you saying the entire user base.
But I myself played Origins on the Xbox with no internet connection so alot of my data would not of been counted, I have only just got internet for the Xbox and I played one playthrough of Origins so only a tiny fraction of my preferences were given to Bioware.

Amusingly I had an internet connection, and played logged into by BSN account.  None of my stuff ever uploaded.  All the DA2 stuff uploaded fine, but not the DAO or DAA info.  I can't even upload characters from the creator program on PC.  (Which means I'm unable to do the custom avatar pic uploading trick.)  <_<
