Ok I'm starting to tear my freaking hair out on this fight. Here is my party set up:

Hero: Warrior (Tank)
Morrigan: Mage DPS
Wynne: Healer
Oghren: DPS

Stupid
Wynne and Morrigan keep getting killed within moments of me starting
the fight because the Broodmother's stupid tenticles. Can ANYONE tell
me how to do this stupid ass fight? :(

Thanks in advance.

PS: I'd rather not have to run out of Deep Roads and change party members :)

(Repost as I posted in the wrong forum at first :))

Hang back and first kill offf the tentacles of the broodmother once they r gone just use your melee to kill the broodmother. This is actually a pretty easy fight and make sure your healer heals the melee warriors attacking the broodmother

Don't melee. Broodmother has weak anti-ranged abilities.

Have everybody kill tentacles.
Then have everybody ranged until next phase (adds start spawning)
Kill adds
Beat down tentacles and ranged again.

Continue until boss dead.

I had to use cheap methods of killing him. I went up the ramp and just threw blizzard at him every so often.

Yes, just hang back and focus on the tentacles one after another, healing as you go. Have fun with spidey man.

That flabby freak the broodmother was initially overwhelming to me on normal difficulty on my first playthrough. There are some tips that can dramatically increase your chances for sucess here!

1) When the battle starts the broodmother(BM) will have her tentacles near her. The first action you could do is cast a massive aoe magic strike on the BM area. Since she cant move at all, she takes sustained and full damage from it. I reccomend inferno because it is high damage and long duration. One inferno will take about 1/5 (?) of her life away and damage her annoying tentacles. You could try blizzard or even better blizzard + tempest also. Have your mages cast vulnerability hex to decrease the BM resist so the spell has extra punch. When the tentacles come to attack you its time to reposition. When you have time, use your sustained aoe abilities periodically throughout the fight and she will gone down fast.

2) Next, I recommend concentrating on dealing with the tentacles. They are the broodmother's main source of damage to your party. Make sure to aggro them to your tanks. They do constant light damage but not burst damage. I would unload your heavy damage talents like assault, dual weapon sweep, critical hit and final blow. Taking out a few of these tentacles decreases the damage you will abe taking. While this is going on have your mages cast single target spells like winter's breath etc. on the tentacles. Since the tentacles are so close to your party, aoe spells are probably not a good choice. However, aoe will be important for this battle.

3) You can position your mages on the rock surface to help keep the tentacles out of range. Anything on the dirt can have a tentacle erupt around it. The rock keeps them away. Still watch your mages and keep them healed. The BM has an aoe spit attack that does acid damage. While not a one hit kill it will drop health if you dont watch it. Your mages should be attacking the BM with normal stave attack when not casting spells.

4) Eventually, several darkspawn will appear. More will appear every minute or so. This is the hardest thing to deal with in this fight. Try to use your mages to take on a couple at a time. Kill a couple before they get to your with a fireball and do the normal CC stuff. Have your warriors attack them. Prepare to take lots of damage from th \\e BM tentacles and darkspawn. The faster stuff gets killed the better. I am betting that glyph of repulsion would be great here but I am not sure.

5) If everything is almost dead/ the BM has low health I recomend focusing everything on her. send your warriors in and do massive enough damage to finish her off.

6) If you still cant win, there is a safety zone (look for it) on the ledge that makes this a piece of cake. You can just bombard with spells until shes dead.

This fight was initially intimidating but became easy one I tried a few things.

You might want to reconsider that. Not because of the Broodmother fight, but because storywise there is another partymember you might want to bring along for the next part of the Deep Roads.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone by posting the name of the character though. Image IPB

There is kind of a large flat rock just out front of miss congeniality. I found that my mage was reasonably safe from the tentacles if I kept her on that rock.

just put everyone on the rock, equip ranged weapons and spell / plink her to death, killing the adds when they get close :)  I just did it a 2nd time last night, completely ignored the tentacles

Bombs, bombs and some more bombs... Main, Alistair and Liliana had poison skills and I had some bombs around... Each one hit her with 4 different bombs (12 bombs total) in under 3 seconds and that cut her life by around 60-70%...

Send everybody back to the platform and attack from range... If when the cool-down timer is out and broodmother is still alive (shouldn't be) then hit her again with any bombs you have left...

I've never worried about the tentacles... They are only a problem if you go against her in melee... Just step back on the platform and use ranged attacks and AoE spells... Once the broodmother is dead, her tentacles will go away...

Pretty much everything Psython said. The discerning factor will be: How powerful are Wynne & Morrigan?

1) the darkspawn start dribbling in from stage right and stage left when BM hits @75% health. Until then, you really only have two targets to concern you --

A) BM

B) the tentacles right next to BM. If you have most everybody up on the rock doing ranged attacks, the tentacles can't get to them.

2) Put Oghren right on top of BM, hammering away. [You _do_ have the Forgemasters Hammer, don't you?] Ignore the tentacles and just have Wynne heal Oghren periodically.

3) Use the ranged attacks to kill tentacles closest to BM; it reduces how often you have to Heal Oghren.

4) If you have any AoE spells like Blizzard, Inferno, and/or Tempest, drop them stage left and right where the darkspawn appear, just before BM drops below 75%.

5) Ds reinforcements appear at BM Health of 50% and 25%, so renew AoE spells just about at those times.

6) If Ds go for Oghren, use the ranged attacks to kill them ASAP. Don't let anything slow Oggie down in pounding on BM. Otherwise concentrate on killing other distant Ds and close to BM tentacles.

I'm not entirely certain, but if you get XP for killing tentacles, you might want to kill ALL of them before finishing off BM. (I am pretty certain that there is a finite number of Ds that appear, and they should most definitely ALL be killed.)

Look at the ground in the room.

Don't stand on the Broodmother. The tentacles are part of her, so if you're standing on the rocky outcroppings they cannot hit you. Equip everyone with a bow (or staff) and you won't take any damage at all except for those occasional darkspawn (which are generic critters) and the Broodmother's poison spit (which isn't nearly as powerful as the Spider Queen's, and you've already beaten her).

Take this as a lesson.  You don't need range-specific people, but it's often helpful to have a bow as the second weapon on pretty much everyone (with mages, equip a second staff that does a different kind of damage from the primary one).  That way you can always be effective even if your primary approach isn't helpful.

stumbled on thread by accident but found the answers interesting.. i got to the Broodmother just last night, myself and had a small problem.. she killed off my main character, Morrigan, and Leliana about half way through the fight but i managed to kill her off as well as the darkspawn that rushed in with only Shale lol not entirely sure if it was pure luck, skillful use of health poultices early on or a combination of the two but i finished her off in my first attempt. but i would have to agree with the first few responses, kill off the tentacles but beware of them as they grab you and slam you around alot (that's how she killed off my main character). once you have done this, stay back and use ranged weapons as the ground errupts so you are far enough back to not be effected unless you have strong resistances to it, then repeat.

Change the level of the game to "casual" if its to hard. I did that and i killed Broodmother.
