So i just started playing the original mass effect on my PS3 after quite a few years, and i just met ashley. After we clear out the geth from around her, she says "Thanks for your help, Commander, i didn't think i was going to make it" The reason why this bugs me all to hell is because you've never met her, and the distress call was cut off before you could respond to it. How does she know my rank? Granted, this may just be a minor oversight on the developers part, or something like that, but it's just one of those little things in the game i nitpick at. Thoughts?

You'd expect there to be some kind of rank insignia on uniforms/armour that people can see, but if so then I have to admit I never noticed it. More likely it's an oversight as I'm pretty sure a few people call Shepard by name without ever having been introduced. Maybe Ashley just read the back of the box.

It's not that uncommon for people to know military heroes without ever actually meeting them. Shepard is a hero based on his background you choose for him. I'm sure there are plenty of vids that Ash has seen that showed pictures of Shepard.
