2. Miranda. This one is because she's such a complex person, and it's done with subtlety. She starts out as a total Ice Queen because of what she's been through, but through conversations you learn more about her. Why she acts so cold. That while she was built to be perfect she sees herself as one of the least perfect people in the galaxy. She's also my love interest because of her general personality, and the bit at the end of her Loyalty Mission where you have her talk to her sister.
3. Wrex. This one's easy. Wrex is awesome. He may act like someone who doesn't give a **** at first, but through conversation you learn that it's really just because he tried to help his people and all it got him was having to kill his father in the sacred meeting grounds of his people.
4. Tali. Tali was a great character, she always felt like a little sister to my Shepards. Someone that who they'd do whatever they could to help her.
5. Garrus. This guy is just awesome, and I love how you could push him either towards paragon or renegade, and while some people complain about him automatically going to Omega as a vigilante even if you pushed him towards paragon. I personally see it as more of him being flawed. And, it has to be mentioned, he had the best scene in ME3.
And honorable mentions go to Joker and Anderson who weren't squadmates but are still awesome.

I love how all you guys put a lot of effort in writing about characters that we all passionately care about. This is what I like about this mass effect trilogy. The characters live with us because we lived with them in the game. This kind of interaction is rare in gaming these days. It is also nice to see what qualities people find in their love interests when they choose him or her.
so true. Bioware comes correct with the characters...

I bought ME2 just to bridge ME3 and the real reason why I bought ME3 is just to see Kaidan again, tbh.. X)
Before giving me those looks, I was pretty much just a regular girl that likes many things but never overly attached to anything. And used to laugh at people who got obsessed with all sorts of stuffs, be it popular bands, singers, actors, or what ever have you. All I can say now is that Karma can be a b**ch. Even my closest cousin gave me that wondering look on how suddenly his sister managed to get batsh!t crazy over a npc.
BW really knows how to craft believable characters that made me care for them and these 'virtual friends' (plus that awsome LI) made me love the universe.

2. Kaidan (LI) I have another FemShep who stayed loyal to him through the trilogy. He can be a dick on Horizon and Mars, but it's understandable. He's a sweet, romantic gentleman in ME1 with an interesting back story. His character develops from shy and reserved to much more assertive, too, although I wish ME3 could have showed that a bit more with some kind of "special" mission for him. His romance is sweet, as he's clearly loved Shepard from the moment he first saw her. He had to mourn her death and she came back into his life.
3. Miranda. I like her and kind of wish she could have been a LI for FemShep. She's mature, intelligent, useful in battle, and has a very sweet and loving side. She's standoffish at first but warms up to Shepard rather quickly. She also risks her own safety and Oriana's by defying TIM on the Collector Base. She should have been a squad mate in ME3, being a former high-ranking Cerberus Operative and all.
4. Wrex. He's just awesome with his dry humor. "You should eat them.". He and Kaidan have the most interesting bacground stories of the ME1 squad mates. He's also a tank in battle. I don't have much more to say about him, except it would have been nice to see more of him in ME2 and ME3.
5. Legion. My robot-dancing bro. It's a shame you can't recruit him early in the game without murdering your crew. "No data available" is my favorite ME2 line next to "I enjoy the sight of humans on their knees."

I have to agree with what you said about Legion. That's why I skip as many side-quests as possible when I play ME2. That way I can have him on my team.GlassElephant wrote...
1. Garrus (LI) I like how his relationship with Shepard develops through the trilogy. First, he sees Shepard as a mentor, and later as an equal and closest friend. The romance developed nicely and IMO was the most rewarding in ME3. It starts out as a booty call ("Hey Garrus, let's f***") but there are hints in ME2 that it may be something more. They were friends who became lovers. One of my FemSheps "cheated" on Kaidan with him, and she ultimately picked Garrus because he was the friend who never left her side.

Well said. The characters are definitely the best part of the series. Picking a top five is a tall order. So many beloved characters to choose from!TheAdventurer29 wrote...

2) Legion
3) Garrus
4) Joker
5) Mordin
Beyond that....I liked Wrex as a friend but he just couldn't understand that as a Spectre my duty had to come first.....the stability of the galaxy. Just because he was somewhat reasonable didn't mean his people were ready to be cured, extremely violent and volatile. I view the Krogan much as I view the Talons.....they have no values of any kind and will sing to the tune of whatever leader can keep them in check. Just as Nyreen's leadership and values were forgotten within seconds of her death so would Wrex's be....but the Krogan are no puny mercenary group, they are mindless killing machines that see no difference between killing innocents and killing actual opponents and consider mindless slaughter to be "fun"......not to mention they breed insanely fast....one female can have more than one thousand babies a year if the genophage were cured. I would have gladly allowed Wrex to live the first incident on Virmire but his idiocy cost me war assets in Mass Effect 3 when he decided to once again come at me with a shotgun so unfortunately he had to go. For all intents and purposes Wreav will suffice as the leader to lead the Krogan against the reapers. I despise Wreav....but again, I have a duty that comes first....ensuring that no war will threaten the universe after the reapers are defeated.
Beyond that it is very nice and gratifying to be able to reason with Mordin and ensure his survival.

2. Garrus - Really no explanation needed. I'd bet that very few people didn't view Garrus as their Shepard's 'bro.'
3. Javik - Javik doesn't have a boring conversation in the game. Although his more trollish and humorous comments get a lot more mention on the BSN, he also says some of the more profound lines in the series. "War is atrocity committed in the name of survival. It is a lesson I wish I had never learned." And, "You still have hope that this war will end with your honor intact? Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls, and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence will be your answer."
4. Legion - More so in ME2 than in ME3. Like Javik, he didn't have a boring conversation in the game. Introducing a Geth ally was a genius move by Bioware that also opened up another side of the Geth, and expanded upon the hints dropped in ME1 (Tali's convos) that the Geth weren't just one dimensional villians.
5. Thane - I'm a sucker for a good redemption story arc. What is not to like about the assassin seeking to make amends before he dies, and finally giving his own life to stop an assassination?

2. Garrus. What else is there to say? He is the ultimate bro and has the closest relationship with Shepard except for a LI and even then he gives them a run for their money.
3. Legion. He is an incredibly unique and interesting character. Learning about the geth from an actual geth was fascinating and it was amazing to be part of that process of understanding.
4. Wrex. His transformation from a mercenary to a leader of his people was pretty cool to see. Wrex was a rare mix of brawn and brain. I doubt there was a krogan who could out fight him and yet Wrex understood that it was just that which was harming his people. When Wrex called my Shepard his sister, I cried. The guy is just awesome.
5. Grunt. I didn't actually like Grunt at first. He just seemed too much like a dumb berserker. But then I realized that while he may be adult size, he was at heart a child. I then started to see Shepard and Grunt's relationship as something like a parent/child relationship. Okeer may have taught him how to fight, but it was Shepard who taught him to understand and how to grow. It made me honestly proud to see in ME3 leading Arhlak company. As Garrus put it so aptly, "the little guy is all grown up now."
While these are my top 5, I can't say that I dislike any of the squadmates from any game. Hats of to Bioware for creating such a large and yet memorable cast.

As maleshep I went for Jack in the end.
As femshep the only one I considered for her was Vega, but alas, not an option.

2- Kaidan (LI): The “normal guy” with some issues. I like how he is introduced, he’s not the greatest biotic (one of the few L2...if not the only one who is not insane), not the best technician... he is just Kaidan. Humble, good person, sincere... It’s my msheps Li and I just can’t think of anyone that suits him better, romanced him in ME3 and the waiting was totally worth it.
3- EDI/ Legion: I know, they are different personalities but what I love about them both was the different point of view they gave me. In Me1 I thought the synthetics were evil and dangerous, If Legion or Edi were not around, well, destroy ending all the way. EDI has got the humour and despite all the controversy about her looks I like her VA A LOT. Legion is adorable and I really wanted him in ME3, one of the most interesting characters I’ve met.
4- Garrus: Pretty much what everybody says about him, I just can’t hate a guy who has been with me from the very beginning, loyal to the very end, great lines, good sense of humour.... If he was available for my mshep...well... I’m sorry for Kaidan.
5- Kasumi: ...love everything about her.
Honourable mention: Wrex, Jack (ME3) and (I really never thought this was possible...) Miranda.

Team Dextro
Liara
Mordin
Samura
My LI in ME was:
Liara but sense she sold me to Cerberus I left her she basically had no right to hand me over to a wanna be god who thought screwing with death was a great thing.
fshep: Kaiden because Garrus wasn't available and I really wanted someone. Was happy to leave him in 2.
ME - ME3 - Mshep: Tali she has always been there I actually thought nothing of her being an LI I was happy we were friends so to have her want shep was a great bonus and you can't trust any npc more then her and Garrus! I hated how BW rushed this pairing in 3 easily the most complex and difficult reduced to a handful of moments ontop of that no conflict with Admiralty, geth, or anyone they didn't factor their love into the chaos of gaining back Rannoch and they scarcely had anytime between one another a very very lost and dropped potential.
For Fshep: Garrus he's super loyal and I did have a crush for him since ME due to his ethics and willingness to do right at a high cost. I'm glade it worked out so well in ME3 because they way he started the relationship in 2 I thought he was going to end it. Him and fshep had the best romance of ME3.
