What do you guys think of people who speak a non-English language in a public PUG? I wish everyone would speak English in public ones, and have private teams for your own language. And I am not a native English speaker, but it's annoying to get my headset and mic on, only to hear enthusiastic and constant debates going on in German/Italian/Finnish without me being able to participate, contribute or understand what they are talking about.

While I'd prefer to connect to hosts from my own country for the purposes of having less laggy connections, the game is international and as such I don't really care what language anyone speaks.

Hell, I imagine it must be annoying for non English speakers to constantly be dropped into English speaking lobbies.

Perhaps they feel the same about you speaking English? Since this game is sold worldwide, I think your desire for one and only one language to be used is highly unrealistic and also somewhat insulting.

Doesn't bother me, people can speak whatever language they want.

Ding ding ding!

I don't really mind. The only thing I do mind is if they're trying to tell me something, I say sorry I don't understand, and they keep saying the same thing over and over again. That's when my mic starts "not working". But, really, in most of my PUGs no one actually talks, so I welcome it.

Just please not always on. I had a game the other day, someone had their mic on the whole time, and all you could hear is the echo of the game itself. He/she said absolutely nothing the entire match, even when I tried asking a couple of questions.

It's always cool to hear German, especially the cursing.  It can sound angrier than any other language I think.

Wow.

If you want to be able to participate in conversations other than English, then learn the language.

How arrogant.

Hm, that was surprising. I thought it was a common agreement that everyone would speak English. And again, I am not a native English speaker myself. I just view it as common courtesy, as I thought the mics were for team speak.

What? Are you serious? I am supposed to learn every European language out there in case I come into a PUG that speaks German/Italian/Polish/Finnish? That's insane. I'm Norwegian, and I woud view it as common courtesy to speak English when you have people in your team that you don't know where are from. But maybe I have that view because I work with colleagues from England, Scottland, Australia, New Zealand and other countries, and am used to English being a working language.

You know, you're right! In fact why can't the while world just speak English all the time? Why do they need to have they're own stupid languages that we can't understand? Clearly there's no point. Obviously English is the master language, anyone can see that.

What a ridiculous post that shows you don't understand a word I was saying.

They are. No one ever said team play is limited to English speakers, though.

English is my first language. I know some French and German as well. Was in a game once with a German speaker who was trying to communicate. I really only know enough German to understand it. Mostly I just embarrass myself when trying to speak it nowadays. Apparently it was the same for him. He'd talk in German, I'd mostly respond in English and vice versa. Was a really cool experience.

....Yeah I didn't say learn every European language.

If there are 3 Norwegians all speaking in Norwegian and you have an English guy drop in, are you saying the 3 Norwegians should all speak English out of courtesy, or they should go into private chat?

I find that ridiculous.

I don't mind if anyone in my game speaks a different language (at night I see a big spike in Russian and Polish players).
Unfortunately, I may leave the lobby if I'm not host and I see anyone with a country tag in their name or if they speak a foreign language, only because that might mean lag in the match since I live in the US.

I wound up in a fully French-speaking lobby once. I know Russian (my native language) and English, but not French. Still, the game went quite smoothly, despite me not understanding a word in the in-game chatter.

Well sure, in some places there is a common agreement to speak English as it's usually a common language, but I certainly wouldn't expect that to stand in an international game played all over the world.  I would hope the lobby would enjoy a common language whether it's Spanish, French, Porteguese, Meow, or English.
