Dalish elf is the worst origins story by far. City Elf is far better.

I've played each origin, they are all fun in their own respect. I like the story/history behind the Dalish more, while the city elf origin is a more moving experience as an Origin and sheds more insight into the world of Thedas. Let's face it, someone was watching Princess Mononoke when they wrote the Dalish Elf Origin.

-Your character is "cursed" and banished from it's people to find a cure
-Your tribe is a "different people" than the current political power and is outcast/looked down upon
-Your people raise and utililze a type of deer for transportation, kind of like the red elk in the movie
-Your character goes off to act as diplomat between factions to solve a greater problem

I'm sure there are other similarities, but those seem the broadest in scope.

/shame. I didn't even notice that relationship between PM and the DE origin.

In your opinon, perhaps, but I really liked the Dalish Elf origins story. IMO the worst is Circle, as much as I love playing a mage, that story is pretty boring to me.

yay, DE has support! lol.

yeah, when you've been through the magi origin, oh, I don't know, at least 4 dozen times (probably), it gets old. at least the DE has emotional impact, as opposed to gregor basically telling you to F off back to your mage dorm.

Give this a try. I was tired of the Mage Origin too after the third playthrough. This mod allows you to play as a mage in the Dalish Elf Origin with only a few dialogue inconsistancies later on with people assuming you were part of the Circle. You do get Dalish dialogue options though, which is pretty cool, and some characters identify you as Dalish. The inconsistancies only pop up around the Tower quest line.

City elf is better overall, but the Dalish are justly famous for their pastries.

To add to your options: Elf Mage ! :D

Purely from story perspective, I like male city elf. Quite short but very intensive. Dual weapon warrior, or rogue, is my suggestion for class.

Daelish elf is good, too, at least if you actually wander around and talk with everybody. Then its very fun. The dungeon itself is rather traditional though. I suggest Rogue, otherwise the dungeon sucks.

Wait what ? Mage have the longest story, the best fights, the most lore, a real sidequest, ... really only disadvantage is that one really whiny NPC and the explanation why you join the Wardens is a bit artificial, other Origins are much better in this respect.

IMHO, Mage is best, noble human is worst.

its all a matter of perspective.. with the circle origin i tried playing my female elf mage as the one who the rumours were really about but was setting someone up to take a fall for it.. yes its nasty, but thats her.. it gives a different feel to playing the origin even if nothing is different

I thought the mage origin did a good job of setting up the the game world's mythology and the nature of magic, as well as introducing a few important characters. Both the Circle and Redcliffe storylines become much more personal and interesting for mage character. That being said, I think I prefer the city elf origin. I think it's a bit more cohesive in terms of story, albeit a dark one. Plus it provides quite a few crowning moments of heartwarming towards the end of the game.

Personally I think dalish is the best cause it gives u a real sense of family and regret that you have to leave the clan. Also the way you join the wardens is quite good. The music at the end never fails to bring a tear to my eye. (sniffs...). Plus the dalish are mentioned in 2 other origins and u learn a LOT about the lore and culture of the dales. Also awsome tattoos. Either way human noble SUCKS!!!

Female city elf rogue with an attitude. That is usually what I play.

The City Elf female Origin was terrific, but ended rather lame with little attention given to the Warden or the Alienage.

The Dalsih Elf male Origin is the weakest of all for me, but the story ends with the emotional possibility of making real and lasting changes.

This is why Dwarves rule.... *chuckles*

I have to tell you - I created a female City Elf and found it a near impossible start (very difficult). The first room in particular, you have no where to hide or run, only one of you has a sword - mission impossible unless on easy setting.

I did however have numerous mods installed so maybe that caused the difficulty to go up substantially.
