I know there has been a lot of controversy regarding video games and violence. People might also say that we are trying to apologize or polish our image on behalf of gamers. However, I'd like to inform you that this is not a PR stunt. This fundraiser was created with the simple goal to help the victims. We are not taking any sides and we certainly don't want politics to get in the way of providing support. It was just a coincidence that all the organizers love video games. That goes with saying that even if Mass Effect had not been attached to the tragedy, we would still be doing this to help our brothers and sisters.
Anyway down to business! We are collecting funds for the Sandy Hook PTA and it will be distributed to the families affected (help cover funeral and medical costs). I also spoke to the representative and they are planning to build a memorial for the victims if there are enough funds. All donations made through Gamers For Sandy Hook go directly to the PTA. We won't handle the money to promote transparency.
In addition, video game voice actors from the industry have agreed to collaborate with us to spread the word among the gaming community. Elias Toufexis a.k.a Adam Jensen from Deus Ex: Human Revolution has provided us with a video endorsement and he generously volunteered to send us signed merchandise to give out to random donors. Stay tuned for more on that one! Mark Meer a.k.a Commander Shepard from the Mass Effect series volunteered to have a Skype Date scheduled on February 6, 2012 9 pm EST to the donor who has the highest amount of total donations. We will be posting the total highest amount donated in our site regularly as it changes. We also contacted Sam Hulick recently, and we'll have updates soon!
That's all! Enjoy your holidays and give us a visit at www.gamersforsandyhook.org
