Thought you and others here might get a laugh out of them.

I've made strange things for others before based on role-playing.  I once made an item that looked like a dead squirrel...for a player that had a demented character that role-played talking to a half-mummified dead squirrel  (named "Mr. Wiggles", I think) that he kept in a bag of holding...it was done as a torch item so the character could hold it up by the tail and show people.

Plus, I wanted to see if I could pull off making a snail shell in gmax.  I'm considering attempting a brand new old creature, with animations.  Who here remembers the dreaded Flail Snail? If I can, I want to have it available on or before April 1st.
:devil:

I remember the flail snail! That was from the Fiend Folio if my memory serves. I really liked that book with the githyanki on the cover. I got many ideas from the quirky pictures in that book. It was in that baroque style that the english fantasy artists had in those days. Same artists as in the fighting fantasy books we used to sneak read in 5th grade. :)

good luck on that project, TAD!

Nice work, TAD!

Oh, yes, the good old flail snail -- I do remember it, too.

Hey, henesua, were you referring to the work of Russ Nicholson from the FF? If so, maybe this will bring back a couple of memories and stir the imagination.

<throwing some...>

The Runequest dragon snail miniature was one of the best painting jobs I ever did (next to the Jabberwock) with a delicate pink underbelly shading to a lustrous, pearlescent *purple* and deep red to black shell.

Ok, AD.
Now you got me fired up!

sorry for being a bit OT here but that flail snail is one ridiculous and terrifying creature... not the only one but being clubbed to peanuts by these 6 things is horrible :D and after that your sucked away like a meatshake lol!!!!

OT? Well, this *is* sorta an all-things-snail topic... now. ;-)

Size? Uh, big :-)

thanks Rolo and i have an idea... i dont know any author who did a good snail creature and as a start the "leeches" from Ryuyin (sorry for mispelling) comes to mind. That leech has all anims done which works for a snail too and i would only need to alter it´s texture (like i did for my carrion crawler) and add that snail shell. That should work for a start ;)

<grins...>

Oh! That'd be *fun*! =)
Edit: Ah! And they look already (de)boned! ;-)
Coolness. I'll wait for a good skin-mesh base snail to start from - either from you or AD or whoever gets thar fust. ;-)
Then I'll get Cestus' hands dirty, er slimy on the Dragon Snail

Edit 2: Sorry for jumping in, AD. Don't want to take away from your flail snail, but it just looks like so much *fun*! :-/
Besides, you *know* how I like collaboration...

I plan on doing the entire thing from scratch...snail body, shell, clubbed tentacles, animations, the whole bit. Already made a texture for the snail shell and now have a relatively quick method for making the shell in gmax. I'm planning to skinmesh all the soft parts, and the body won't be flattened or have a giant mouth like those leeches.

Nice job AD. Now as we are apparently talking about things from the dim distant past of AD&D, I remember seeing a christmas issue of Dragon from maybe 1990 that had a Snack Dragon as the main monster. It was shaped like a typical Disney dragon (ie very narrow shoulders, ridiculously small wings and a huge lower body with a pot belly. The thing that really sticks in my mind is the colour of it. This dragon was supposed to be pink and white candy striped! Now there's something you don't see every day (although I'd like to (^_^)).

AD another thought occured to me. If you can make that snail shell big enough, its not that far a step from there to make a nautiloid spelljammer ship.

Guadi is one of my favorites. If I ever come into money, I'm going to Barcelona with my family.

By all the imaginary gods in my PW, no!  That's just wrong.

There is an "arcane space" theme up in the CCC polls.
