1. You don't need Reapers to prevent a technological singularity, which is what the Catalyst id trying to do. 21st century human scientists have far better ideas on how to deal w/ it that the Catalyst who has been at it for billions of years. (The "Yo, Dog" pretty much sums it up)
2. That the Reapers are like fire, purging a forest or someone pruning a bush, has already been stated quite clearly several times.
3. The Catalyst's logic is inane. It acts broken. "Synthesis cannot be... forced ... but let's force it anyway." "Now that we know it is possible synthesis is inevitable ... but let's go ahead and rush it, y'know, like the Salarians and Turians uplifted the Krogan." "The Crucible is little more than a power source ... but it changed me, created new possibilities." (A lot of this is just bad wording and can be tweaked to work, but they wanted to preserve the mystery, the "speculation from everyone" and so it failed)
4. Your girlfriend played the EC. What would she have thought about the original three colored endings?
5. To a new player the kid may actually work, but for myself, who went through three games w/ Shepard, he comes off as too forced. Therefore I do not sympathize w/ Shepard's plight of leaving earth as the kid fits into it and at the end he means nothing to me beyond someone that is recognizable.

I could go on ...

Funny to see people still using this pic though. It's a blatant admission that the ending went waaay over their heads

So, basically what you're saying is:

an additional problem is, that the technological singularity is not really part of mass effects lore. this theory is not mentioned in this universe. ieldra2 pointed out that it was - but it got cut out. most peole who play the game have not even the faintest idea, waht it is.

this theory is debated among scientists IRL ... it could be a legit part of the meu. but for that, it needs to be implemented long before the endings.

Look, I myself find the repetition of the image endlessly moronic, but how is it an indication that the ending went "waaay over their heads"?

Reapers are not entirely synthetic.  Branding them as "synthetics to kill organics" is reductive as it looks past the catalyst's true reasoning for their creation - organic preservation.

Kudos to the OP, your patience threshold is greater than mine.

Your friend has it right. BSN knows it, they're just being stubborn about it because they didn't get their big Harbinger boss fight followed by ultimate paragon save everyone ending and tearful reunion scene.

No.

Listen, there's something you need to understand right now.

You're the mad ones here.

You're the ones screaming.

Us pro-enders are just trying to have fun talking about an awesome VG.

All we want is to be able to have a thread without someone sticking their head in to say the endings are bad, while acting like they're the first people ever to say it.

Don't try to project your anger at the game onto people who genuinely like it.

I dislike the ending because I didn't see any of my war assets in action.

Problem?

oh, I'm not calling anybody a "knuckle-dragger". And I think the Leviathan and Catalyst explain things just fine (maybe that's the difference between me and those that think it boils down to "Yo Dawg"? Who knows...)

Not anymore.

I have been banned, apologized, and emerged a new Yate.

I am now nice and considerate of other people's feelings.

And to prove it, here, have a heart:<3

But I think it's safe to say that we all would've liked to see our war assets in action.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with being reductive when it digs to the heart of a matter, and it does. As hollow as the "Yo Dawg" version of the argument appears, there's merit behind finding that schema heavily problematic.

That picture embodies an explanation of the catalyst's reasoning that is simply not true – It's not a clever simplification of the dialogue, as it omits crucial information to the point where it entirely distorts what the game tells you.

A common way to check if someone actually understands what you're telling them is to have them repeat it in their own words. That meme picture is like an uncalled-for attempt to do so, and it's simply not a correct rendition of what has been presented.

Sure, people frequently post it just to troll, knowing it's not factually correct, but if someone posts it thinking it's a clever simplification of the plot to point out "circular reasoning", then yes, I'd also be inclined to deduce that the ending went over their head.

Simplifying something by preserving its meaning is a display of cleverness, simplifying something in a way that omits crucial traits is not.
