Getting back into the swing of model making - first up is a smithy bashed from one of thatch houses from the Castle Exterior Tileset by DLA (tno01_v10_01)...

That looks quite useful, will it be part of the next Q update?

I'll probably release it as a lone model for insertion into the TNO tileset by Builders.

Very Nice. Quick query - are the bellows animated too?

Nope. The bellows are part of the tile. I might try making an animated version, but its not too high on my list of priorities atm.

Impressive. Is that some new/edited texture you're using for the walls? I have been reskinning the whole rural tileset to pretty much the same config you're using there, and that texture is perfect for it.

That texture is tno01_rough01a (from the patch 1.69 xp3.bif). For a two-story stone building you'll want to use that texture for the bottom story and tno01_rough01 for the top story.

I think a beam there would make sense.

Having lived in a town that had a lot of thatched rooves, and seriously considered getting into the thatching trade, yes, it does need a beam there, I think. It does look really odd without it.

From a builder's perspective, yes. The 'ridge pole' at the peak supports the framing of the whole roof, so having that beam project out like the others would be cool. Also (see how picky I can be?), maybe you could rotate all the beams so they are taller than wide instead of wider than tall, if you know what I mean? They look like 4" x 8" beams, and normally I'd expect to see them nailed on with the 4" on the roof, and standing upward the 8".
Either way, that smithy looks great!

You could also add a few beam end placeables which look like carved horse heads or the less common swan heads.

I love basic stuff. Very cool and fits in perfectly:) And I´m down with the beam thing... add it

Beautiful addition! And: Yes: Do add a beam.

OK, the beam is in - and it really does make a difference in the overall appearance of the model. Now I just have to add a similar beam to the other thatch houses. I've also modified the default texture for the TNO cobble roads and made a few other modifications. I'll post some screens when I have more time...

Thanks for sharing, and great work! Love the whole idea, not just the result, but the basic theme as well!
