I agree that it will be in the running and certainly top contender for GOY, but alas I am sure that honor is going to go to either COD:MW 2 or Uncharted 2. Just my 2 cents.

If a rehashed (for the 3rd time) FPS wins GotY then there is no justice.

Agree this game is an EPIC win - I seriously can't see the problem with the textures and I play a lot of modern games - but what were these critics/trolls expecting? I mean its not a single character action rpg where they can motion capture every animation and forget about interwining plots and things. Oh well - if this thread proves anything its "to each his own"

All I can say is that I had my doubts that Bioware would be able to pull off creating their own IP and a game around it.

Bioware, I was wrong (and yes, I am overjoyed to be able to admit this!).

You have succeeded beyond any reasonable shadow of a doubt! The world that you have created is rich in depth, very well thought out, makes sense (meaning that it all ties together) and, most important, is exciting and fun!

And the game - I never thought I would say this after NWN, but it is truly the successor that I, at least, was waiting for! I do miss the MP part, but I can still get that with NWN, so it is not all that bad.

I am looking forward to what will be produced with the toolset! Yummy!

As for the gameplay, the story, the characters...I normally do not like "cinematic stories" because I often feel railroaded and cannot stand the blarmey creations that come out of some Developer's mind. DA is an exception! They come across as real individuals, not some cardboard cutouts!

From the scenes, to the settings, to the story, to the characters...I am finding difficulty here trying to dislike anything! Even trying to find fault is a fruitless endeavor!

It just all fits. From the pre-history of the setting, to how the political field is worked, right down to the individual lives, everything has been worked out in detail and true to the IP.

This is a masterpiece. Breathtaking, stunning, and truly setting an impossibly high standard for the rest to enviously stare at.

Then we come to the technical parts of the game. I want to congratulate Bioware and EA on not slapping a ton of DRM on the game! For that alone, I gladly give my support and money for this game. To that comes a really interesting financialy model in the form of DLC. I am very curious to see how that will work out further in the interest of the game itself.

The graphics are great (at least, they are on an ATI 1950 pro AGP 512mb graphic card). Actually, they are stunning, to be honest. Fluid framerate, nice animations, and I really love how the combat just seems to naturally flow from exploring moving directly into fighting, etc. It just feels so natural.

It did not take long at all to get used to the camera controls, and that is saying alot! I come from NWN/NWN2 and of course the controls there are different. Needless to say, I at first felt a bit daunted, but after a bit of fumbling around, the controls started to become natural. And that is my point here - it rapidly came to feel natural, and that, my friends, is GREATNESS!

Of course, I have a rather large collection of Logitech devices, from Keyboards an Mice to Loudspeakers, etc, and that certainly makes things easier for me.

Sound quality for me is great as well.

I really cannot wait to do the other background starts now.

I can safely say that if this ever goes MP (and includes a Game Master client as well), that it will be a true successor to NWN.

Thank you Bioware for this game. Chalk me up as one very happy, pleased, and ecstatic fan!

I've been away from the forums since Tuesday for obvious reasons, so I don't know what all the "hate" is about, but this game is amazing, and so much more awesome than I expected. All the buzz about how the XBOX 360 version sucked leading up to the release got me a little worried, but it's an awesome game regardless of what console it's on. Still playing like crazy, and I've got a long way to go, and I'm totally excited to keep playing! :D

I'm 15 hours in the game now. Been playing as slowly as possible, talking to as much people as possible and reading codex always when it's even of slight interest. It has been a completely awesome experience thus far - not counting that I missed the dog quest in the beginning :( .

15 hours is long enough gameplay to judge (like Oblivion, played 4 hours, thought it was just awesome, played another 4 hours, got disgusted about it and quit for good :D ) it's gonna be in my book of top games ever created, just up there with the selected few (KOTOR, Mass Effect, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines and The Witcher). Bioware has certainly done it again, and in doing so I have become quite the believer of Bioware, I doubt they can muster a bad RPG out.

It is awesome, it just is so awesome.

Hi, No one has even mentioned morrowind.... I am still waiting for that to come out...as Oblivian was not it. I want my construction kit back... haha

what else blows my mind? these reviews that nit pik DAO saying it doesnt do this right or that well...
name ONE rpg that can be compared to DAO of any relevance?!?!?!?
i keep seeing thse games compared to DAO in the reviews-

1 WOW laughable outright, its NOT an RPG in the sense that DAO is, period.
2 oblivion nope. no RPing here.
3 fallout 3? you mean oblivion 2?
4 baldurs gate?
5 neverwinter nights?

the only ones that come close are the last 2 games that are10 years old!!!!! nothing is like DAO. before or anything coming anytime soon. because people dont make immersive RPGs anymore. they make fancy looking MMO money grabs.

its either a "make one character to roam around a humongous map"
or "here buy this box for 50$, now keep paying us 15$ every month... why? because, what would happen if you stopped? what would you miss out on?"

MMOs are so overrated. im so sick of the rehash.
bioware is what made me a PC gamer in the first place when they released baldur's gate. and over the eyars i forgot why. i kept buying and wasting money on MMOs and other garbage just to justify upgrading a machine over and over.

but then something happens, on the rare occasion, and someone will put out a game that makes me happy to have a machine to play these masterpieces!!!![/quote]

I haven't had this much fun since, ever! Seriously! Everyone that worked on this game/project should be proud. Only 27 hours into the game and i'm loving every second. This is a privilege to experience Dragon Age: Origins, a memory that i will cherish and take with me. I'm not sure there will be any more games that will come out and be on par for awhile or ever, unless you make another game or expansion/sequel. Again great job and...

Thank You

3rd person action adventure games hardly ever win game of the year awards. Unsurprisingly, it is almost always RPG's, and this is without a doubt the best one of the year.
I think it is the most likely game to win game of the year.Posted Image

my god
i'm only at the beginning of the game and already know this is a masterpiece
this is clearly the game in my life of RPGamer i was waiting for!

i want to apologize to Bioware to have big doubt about them to recreate the perfection of their BG titles

this game is way way way beyond my expectation
it surpasses what i could have ever imagined

i've just made the noble dwarf prologue and it was absolutely brillant!!

be really proud of what you've done guys, you've just create the new RPG game standard for years to come!

I agree. I can't think of a bether game right now. The detail in the game is wonderfull.

Sure, the grafics is not so good and there are some other details that are alittle bad but thats nothing compaired to the game iself.

I went through the Human Noble storyline and I did not expect it to effect me like it did. The storytelling is great, all the desission and the results that come back to you later... the game is soooo big and Im not talking about how many quests or anything like that, Im talking about the design of the game itself.

This makes we longing for Dragon Age 2. I mean, can you think of the possibillitys?

This.

It nailed me as well.

Been a long time since I have been emotionally affected by a story, and I really cannot remember the last time it happened in a CRPG.

It caught me unawares, and that was brilliant. I especially like how one got the background information shortly before the rest unfolds...it all fits together, seamlessly.

I was just in a battle where an ogre picked up my templar in his hand and repeatedly bashed him up against the wall. When he finally let go of him, Alistair leapt on his chest and stabbed him right in the center, blood gushing. I was in awe of how awesome the combat is. I will play this game over and over until the men in suits come and take me away.
