All I can say is that I had my doubts that Bioware would be able to pull off creating their own IP and a game around it.
Bioware, I was wrong (and yes, I am overjoyed to be able to admit this!).
You have succeeded beyond any reasonable shadow of a doubt! The world that you have created is rich in depth, very well thought out, makes sense (meaning that it all ties together) and, most important, is exciting and fun!
And the game - I never thought I would say this after NWN, but it is truly the successor that I, at least, was waiting for! I do miss the MP part, but I can still get that with NWN, so it is not all that bad.
I am looking forward to what will be produced with the toolset! Yummy!
As for the gameplay, the story, the characters...I normally do not like "cinematic stories" because I often feel railroaded and cannot stand the blarmey creations that come out of some Developer's mind. DA is an exception! They come across as real individuals, not some cardboard cutouts!
From the scenes, to the settings, to the story, to the characters...I am finding difficulty here trying to dislike anything! Even trying to find fault is a fruitless endeavor!
It just all fits. From the pre-history of the setting, to how the political field is worked, right down to the individual lives, everything has been worked out in detail and true to the IP.
This is a masterpiece. Breathtaking, stunning, and truly setting an impossibly high standard for the rest to enviously stare at.
Then we come to the technical parts of the game. I want to congratulate Bioware and EA on not slapping a ton of DRM on the game! For that alone, I gladly give my support and money for this game. To that comes a really interesting financialy model in the form of DLC. I am very curious to see how that will work out further in the interest of the game itself.
The graphics are great (at least, they are on an ATI 1950 pro AGP 512mb graphic card). Actually, they are stunning, to be honest. Fluid framerate, nice animations, and I really love how the combat just seems to naturally flow from exploring moving directly into fighting, etc. It just feels so natural.
It did not take long at all to get used to the camera controls, and that is saying alot! I come from NWN/NWN2 and of course the controls there are different. Needless to say, I at first felt a bit daunted, but after a bit of fumbling around, the controls started to become natural. And that is my point here - it rapidly came to feel natural, and that, my friends, is GREATNESS!
Of course, I have a rather large collection of Logitech devices, from Keyboards an Mice to Loudspeakers, etc, and that certainly makes things easier for me.
Sound quality for me is great as well.
I really cannot wait to do the other background starts now.
I can safely say that if this ever goes MP (and includes a Game Master client as well), that it will be a true successor to NWN.
Thank you Bioware for this game. Chalk me up as one very happy, pleased, and ecstatic fan!
