After playing DA:O, I decided to try ME. I really really like it and I HATE shooters. Which says something if the story, areas, and everything else is enough to get me past my hatred of shooters. I really liked the different job classes too. So I'm going to get ME2. Hopefully it'll tone down the evil of overly mountainous planets that the horribly controlled mako will have to drive through.
I'm hoping that ME2 will have its relationship, both friendships and romances, system be more like DA. ME is way too dependent on the main storyline for progression of the personal story. Otherwise, I'm excited for ME2!
DA players getting Mass Effect 2?

I'm getting it yes, hmm pc or xbox though?
Same decision I face my friend. It should be easy for me though here in the UK the collectors edition is £40 on pc and £55 on 360 despite the fact the contents are exactly the same so I think it'll probably be on PC, not sure yet though

Already pre-ordered the CE for pc. Mass Effect ranks in my top 3 favourite games, so I have to get ME2, although I'm a bit worried about some of the changes they've made and so far I'm not overly excited about any of the new squad.
I am planning on doing a final playthrough of my adept to carry through to ME2, if I can stop myself from doing yet another playthrough of DAO.

I actually pre-ordered Mass Effect 2 before I pre-ordered this game. I've been vibrating with excitement for the sequel since I beat ME. Please let Garrus be romanceable this time.
Ordered the CE for PC, and a normal copy for Xbox 360, much like I did with DA:O. I play on my PC, my fiance prefers his consoles.

ME1 introduced me to console gaming (XBox 360). I'm not good at button-mashing-first-person-shooters and I definitely need the storyline to hold my interest. ME1 was perfect for me. It led me into Fable 2 and then DAO... I've played ME1 four times and am currently working on several different DAO characters and trying to finish up beore ME2 comes out...
Is it sad that I actually considered taking one of my precious vacation days for ME2??

i wouldn't call a shooter a button masher, but yes Mass Effect is all that and a bag of potato chips. And yes i will be getting it. two bioware games in three months, INCONCIEVABLE!

Not a chance. The story is far from original and the game mechanics are boring and repetitive.

Just finished my paragon adept game yesterday in preparation for ME2. Realized how much of ME1 I missed out on during my first play as I just rushed through it the first time.

I would have been really looking forward to this title but I have been too busy playing Dragon Age.
But yes I will be getting it shortly after release. I loved Mass Effect 1...on PC of course.

I will get ME2, but only when it hits the $19.99 price point. Hopefully, that won't take too long.

Yeah, and there's also "not a chance" you could even be called a human being. Go be an hero.
(I already tried to post this reply but it replied to someone else
Insulting is very important, especially when someone doesn't like Mass Effect.

I am definitely going to buy Mass Effect 2. I liked Mass Effect 1 quite a lot though not as much as Dragon age. But as Bioware is involved with Mass Effect then I am hoping for more romance similar or even better than in Dragon age. Yay for romance!

I am getting it, definitely, but it really is a far different game from DAO.
Different genre - sci-fi vs. fantasy.
Different gameplay - 3rd person squad-based shooter with action rpg elements vs. tactical party-based rpg
Different dialog system - color-coded, placement-coded general ideas of a response for a movie-like experience of the story down to VO for MC vs. linearly listed responses expressed verbatim in a role-playing game format often used for deep story/character development
Different MC - little customization of who your character is or where they come from vs. wide range of choices of origins of your character and who they are
This isn't saying one is better than the other - there are benefits to the options on either side. But I can definitely see people being fans of one kind of gameplay and not the other.
Me, I really like both (but prefer DAO.)

You havent play ME1?
The story is awesome... the downside to the game, is the unexplored planet stuff on the maco... but the main story arc is very engaging.

I'd say pretty good.
But I'm a sucker for this kind of sci-fi story, whether in Babylon 5 or Star Control 2.
Yeah, we've seen it before, but it's well done!
EDIT - Since my original post got lost in the moving of the thread -
I am getting it, definitely, but it really is a far different game from DAO.
