I never got ME1. Would this make getting ME2 a bad idea? My ME2 grabbing choice is currently undecided. (I'm big on sci-fi, but dunno if gettin ME2 is worth it without ME1 gameplay under my belt.)

From the teasers released thus far, it doesn't seem like the ME1 and Me2 story arcs are directly connected.  You should be able to jump into ME2 without having to have played ME1, though naturally, knowing a little about ME1 will give you some additional insights into the game universe and any recurring characters.

If you're big on sci-fi, give ME2 a go.  And if you like it, definitely add ME1 to your game library too.

I'll pick it up from the bargain bucket in a year or so. I didn't like ME1 much. Nice story, but the game mechanics seemed sloopy, dumbed down or both. Also I apparently seduced both women without realising it by being... Polite.



I also ran into a couple of bugs with side-quests which made them impossible to complete. This annoyed the completist in me. "Go talk to Admiral Whatsisname". "But he's dead". "GO TALK TO HIM"! "..."



Will give it another go... perhaps even in the next couple of days, but just concentrate on the storyline and one or two other interesting looking bits.

I just want to chime in again to laud MerinTB's excellent taste in citing Star Control II. I loved that game on 3DO. Great music... and the dialogue was hilarious at times.

Am waiting for it to go up over Steam, then I will preorder it.

If it doesn't go on Steam until after release, well then, I'll wait, I'm not that excited for it, as the first one was kind of crappy, mainly just getting it because I like/trust Bioware, and hope they learned from their mistakes like they implied they did.

Mostly it seems to be issues with the gameplay from ME1 that people still have. Well, from what I have read they seem to have fixed most, if not all of those issues and added plenty of new stuff!



I will definitely be playing it until the Awakening expansion comes out.



I am curious though about the similarities between DA and ME. The dialogue choices, the character development, the sequels building on the events from the prior games. It would be nice to get a Bioware opinion on it. Right guys?

i'll definately be getting mass effect 2. I loved the first Mass Effect.

Already got the collectors edition of Mass Effect 2 on pre-order.

I will buy every Bioware RPG. Even their upcoming MMO (which seems to be attempt to put the RPG back into MMORPG).



I've noticed some people asking if they should get ME 1. The Mass Effect series is considered a trilogy. Your character will carry over from episode to episode and the choices you made will also carry over with him.



I'd say that you would really be missing out on an RPG experience if you skipped Mass Effect 1. I highly recommend getting it.. then moving on to 2.

Just saw this post go up.  Good stuff.  My ME1 saves are on my 360 so I've got the 360 CE preordered, but I'll probably pick the PC version up on Steam down the road.

I'm getting the PC CE for my birthday (which is 4 days after the release.) However, I'm worried that I won't like the gameplay (as they've apparently made it more shooter-y.) So...we shall see whether it's something I like or not.

Anyone checked on the DLC for ME2 yet? Got some pretty sweet items in the works. I am wondering what other kind of attention it will get.



Also I'd like to say that a Jade Empire 2 would be welcome by me. Bioware seems to be on a roll as of late so I am just tossing it out there...
