I have a xbox 360 and I don't want to buy the new xbox when it comes just for a game
I really hope it also comes to the current consoles! What do you think?

Since you're a pc player, that's a pretty heartless thing to say. Even tho I'm just waiting for the new xbox to hit the shelves, I feel for the people who won't be able to immediately shove out near one thousand dollars (Console/accessories/possible hard drive) and get the game at the same time or neither.I can see the benefit of it being on next gen with less memory restrictions but I hope it's on both current and next gen so no one is left out.

The next gen hasn't even been announced yet. Who knows? My best guess would be it makes little financial sense to develop exclusively for platforms that might not even materialise by the time you're ready to launch.

If it sticks to its current release window (last quarter 2013, first quarter 2014) there's no reason it would be next gen.

Just a little follow up info: http://www.thesixtha...t-2013-release/

Bioware wouldn't have the dev tools to make it for the Winter release schedule if they only got the tools in to do it in Summer, although I suppose there's always an outside chance. This is mostly speculation but given the tight schedule I wouldn't put money on Microsoft  and Sony making the 720 and PS4 2013 machines.

This. The next gen consoles haven't even been formally announced, have they?

From a game standpoint, I hope so. The PS3 and 360 are definitely a limiting factor when it comes to making games. The hardware is almost a decade old at this point.

That said, we know nothing about what microsoft and sony are cooking up for this generation (The Wii U started the current gen ;)) and as a PC gamer, I'm not really fussed either way. The more people that can play the game, the better.

If next gen starts this year (and it will) it would be odd for DA3 NOT to be part of it. Exclusive, maybe not. Nobody will know until a formal announcement is made.

I don't get the mentality it shouldn't be next gen though. If not DA3, then DA4 will be. ANd the common claim "don't want to be buy the console for 1 game" is just stupid. Many more games will release that you'll want. The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned, because it means overall better games. This gen has already lasted longer then any other and is so outdated it makes my flip phone look like alien technology. Its time to move on already. Save your money.

Exactly, there's rumours and speculation but after some googling I can't find a statement from Microsoft or Sony stating any specifics. DA:I looks to be a current gen game.

My feelings as well. Best to just hurry up and get it over with.

It might a "transition" game meaning it will be out on the current consoles and the next gen consoles.

Hope it's on next gen. Don't care personally as I play on pc but it'd be nice to not have to suffer from the limitations of 7 year old hardware for once. This console generation has been going on for far too long already.

Why should the next consoles be announced early though?  Thats counter productive to selling the current ones.

They will be announced this spring/summer and come out in Q4.  Guaranteed.  Most AAA games that come out then will at least be on both gens, if not exclusive to the new one.

Start saving your money.  Its happening, sorry.

A next gen launch Dragon Age game would be more than enough motivation to bust out the piggy bank. If things get dire, money wise, I can always farm out my body to scientists for some extra coin too.

Nope. Next gen consoles won't be until Q1/Q2 2014. Take that to the bank.

I imagine it would be more along the lines of a current gen release and then a next gen port a couple months down the road if the original sells well.

I highly doubt it will sell on next gen consoles at all. Perhaps, like Jimmy said, a re-release might happen, but making a game next-gen exclusive when this game can make or break the series for BioWare (and by extension, EA) would be a terrible decision from a business standpoint. It would sell horribly. EA wouldn't do this.

You have nothing to fear. That aside, as far as console games go the current generation is hardly being pushed to the limits (sorry PC players- although I play some games on PC too so I feel bad also), there is no reason for Microsoft or Sony to announce a new console until at least 2014.

LOL if you don't think they would get in on the holiday season.

I'm sure we see at least one next gen console launched this year, but why should it be next gen only? If anything there is a huge player base on Xbox/PS3 (around 70 mio. each?), why should they ignore that market? If it's a next gen only game, what's the possible player base they can reach in Q4/13 - Q1/14? A few million systems each are sold by then, maybe.

And while I think the current consoles have overstayed their welcome and are a bottleneck for game developers, they'd be dumb to abbandon that established market in a rush.

Sony or Microsoft have made the mistake of releasing a console around the holidays. They won't do it again.

See, it used to make sense, in the days of Sega and Nintendo's reign in the 90's, to do this. You'd get all kinds people buying consoles for the holidays and be fine with one or two flagship games, like Mario or Sonic, being the only game to play. These days, Microsoft and Sony don't have those flagship franchises they can rest their consoles on, though. They rely on third party developers to make games for their consoles. Which is fine, but until there are a good amount of games out for the new console, people won't buy them in large numbers.

They will wait until the Spring to release their consoles (or the summer, they won't dare release them at the same time) and then have 6-9 months of games being released until the holiday season. Then after a decent library is built up, people will be willing to shill over holiday dollars in drives to buy the new consoles, along with a glut of new games. Otherwise, they will have an anemic first holiday release and have to struggle uphill all year to secure new game releases just to justify their console.

It's far smarter to release the console in the off season, then capitalize next holiday (Decemebr 2014) for the most revenue return.

I like how people has completely discarded the Wii-U when discussing the next generation of consoles, as if it wasn't part of it.
