You're kidding, right?
TIM: You're too stupid to see my smartass plan!
Shepard: No, TIM. You are indoctrinated!
TIM: Le gasp! You're right! I can't live like most normal people! *Bang*
All done with the good ol' Paragon/Renegade options, which solves everything in the current situation in a rather anticlimactic fashion.

I was surely on the edge of my seat there. A+ entertainment.
Who knew a video gamey could be so much fun!

People play them for different reasons. Some people who are in positions where they are in power positions will have a different take on them. They may want the feeling of sacrifice in an RPG. Idealists also may want the feeling of sacrifice.
Some of us are stuck in offices or in crappy jobs 5 days a week. We learn quickly the way to survive in most jobs unless we had the luck of being born with a silver spoon in our mouths is to do just enough not to get fired. If you go that extra mile they never have enough money for the raise or they're cutting back that year and you don't get the promotion. And you get double or triple duty during the cutback so your performance suffers, and then when review time comes along they remember that so that when they do have the money they don't give it to you.
We play them to escape from the stuff in the paragraph above. We play for fun. We play RPGs for the adventure; for escaping from the crap; to be big goddamned heroes and heroines; we played Mass Effect to blow up reapers, kick them in the daddy bags, save the galaxy, and fly off into the sunset with our love interest smoking a cigar and wearing sunglasses. We didn't care if the ending would be too videogamey.
We didn't want to be forced to grab hold of two control rods, jump into a beam, or shoot a tube that was going to explode, all three of which end in our death, because that kind of crap is the stuff that kills us by degrees every day. Just not on that kind of grand scale, but sometimes sitting through a 4 hour meeting is like holding two control rods because you can feel your life disintegrating. Being in a two day team building session that is going to be a waste of time because it is going to be completely ignored by upper management in two days is like jumping in the green beam. Getting a new boss about 3/4 of the time is like shooting the tube and getting blown to bits. You follow me?

And I would care very much if the ending came off as 'too videogamey,' for want of a better phrase.

Edutainment in four Eezo steps,eh? It must just be me, I'm not affected like that on such a personal level. Probably my age'n such. I cannot associate the story with reality, only the hints of some distant problematics and the apparent cure to those, even if incorrect to assume such. I still enjoyed the ME trilogy, even if I didn't get the memo..lol

I'm almost afraid to say more than that based on how many fans are apparently upset by the lack of a final boss, but it honestly didn't bother me.

Thorian? Is that even a boss fight? Like I mean, all I did is murder zombies and blow up tentacles.
Benezia? A few shotgun bullets and she was down.
Robot Saren? That was more annoying than difficult. All he did is jump around and prolong the fight.
Human Reaper? Shoot eyes. Duck. Shoot eyes. Wait. Repeat. Win
Glad they didn't do one in the end of ME3.

Boss battles can be very good, but u need to know HOW to make them great. This includes both story and gameplay.
Since bioware screwed up ME3 as a whole, i bet that they would screw up VERY BADLY the boos fight.
If the illusive man turned into some kind of "monster" so we could have a boss fight, i honestly would've stoped playing right there. They are doing it on Resident evil and it SUCKS.
Boss battle must be CAREFULLY created. They must be COHERENT with the story AND fun.
I think, even without a boss battle, they could make a boss scene lol. Like, with the fleet atacking harbinger based on ur orders witch would be performed with interrupts or things like that.. That wouldnt be a "videogamey" and would feel much better than what we actually got.

Take a person like the Illusive man. Bioware got it right that the final confrontation with him should be a battle of words/ideals as he was never about violence but more about manipulation. The only thing is going through a game that is heavily action focused having a dialogue final battle is kinda anti-climatic compared to what came before.

I find that hilarious, since we got that epic fail of a fight with that Reaper on Rannoch. Honestly, can portray the Reapers any more stupid?
I think that's only because Shepard fights the thing on foot. If they would have used a sequence where you flee from him with Legion's vehicle, something like in the presentation video before release, it could be a good fight.
Imagine your are among it and have to avoid it's feet like the Rohirrim the Oliphants in LotR.

RE4: Had some awesome boss fights, the pacing was fantastic and that still ranks in my top 5 all time.
Halo 3: The boss fight with the guilty spark was whatever, but the end was that awesome warthog run over the exploding platforms. Pretty sweet ending.
Bioshock: That one felt like having a boss fight for the sake of it, Lame, but a showdown with Fontaine was in the cards, maybe they couldnt think of anything else for it.
Mass Effect: Saren/possessed Saren was time consuming and repetitive, but I did like the action cut scenes in between and afterwards. Nice scene climbing over the rubble.
ME2: Human Reaper was shoot the eye/tubes, rinse and repeat. Again the action cutscene afterwards was pretty nice and well done.
Gears of War 1: I liked the RAAM battle. Felt pretty good, and it wrapped it up nicely.
Gears 3: That was tedious and annoying. Could have been better.
COD4: No boss, but the ending was pretty good and I liked the action and fast pace of the final section.
So rarely do I enjoy a boss fight. Usually they are miss more than hit, I do like action at the end of a video gamey cause thats why I play them personally. ME3 felt like driving 10MPH for one hour, it was f-ing boring. Give me a timer to get off the citadel and a few baddies to mow down and an epic action cutscene and it would be all good for my tastes.
I like that chest thumping "Hell yeah" ending personally. I wanna feel amped so when I play it again I can re-visit that feeling. As it stands I hate my crew for bailing and want to kill them, I just may want to play ME2 again one day to get every single one of them including me. They can go F themselves for being traitors and running like the b****es they are.

I will say the Kai Leng boss fight was actually kind of difficult first time through. Also the first time you fight that Krogan Warlord right after rescuing Liara way back in ME 1

We were told a story through the medium of a video game. I do not mind that they want to withhold video game staples and cliches it is their "Artistic Integrity" to do so. The problem I see is the fact that they were telling a story, through an interactive medium, in which the protagonist achieved Resolution without earning it through a Climax, a final conflict, a final challenge to overcome.
The Catalyst is basically telling you already won, and how you did it before you've actually done anything to win. You are the savior of the galaxy for just being there, that is the problem I have about it.
You just have to choose how you want to die and what you want to do with everyone:
1) Do you want to die by electrocution and leave the reapers in charge of the galaxy, we'll use your morals for guidance from here on. Oh sorry I mean you'll control them but it really won't be you, I promise.
2) Do you want to die by disintegrating in that green death ray and make the galaxy one giant reaper? It's always failed before but you can do it because you're special. It's my ideal solution.
3) Or do you want to shoot that tube over there, kill the reapers, geth, and all synthetic life, and severely damage all of the mass relays which you haven't a clue as to how to build let alone rebuild, and die in a massive explosion?
Whatever you choose hurry up and put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye. Now that's what I call VICTORY! <_< This is the trade off for earning it.
