Yes, you will be able to be king. Here's how:-

(1) SPOILER: B** F**** I*
(2) Go adventuring and collect a couple of thousand gold.
(3) Use your gold to buy a house or shop.
(4) Keep using your profits to buy more property.
(5) Eventually you will be proclaimed king.

Simple as that.

Probably not, since Grew Wardes eventually succomb t the Blight after a decade or so, so you can't really establish your royal line and kingdom and all.

Is it me or is this very much reminiscent of George RR Martins army of the black manning the wall against a threat that is generational and hasn't been seen for some time until the rebirth of dragons in the world and the return of magic?

Perhaps I'm stretching but I guess all fantasy works are derivative of each other.

Gorge RR Martins books where supposed to be an influence in the creation of the world.

As for king, I hope so but I doubt it. I always like the idea of my character becoming the most powerful character he/she could be.

I vote for being able to kill the king and let anarchy reign supreme.

No king, but a queen will be ok. Well only if I can make everyone wear royal purple clothes and wooden shoes.

I don't think you can be a King or leader of anything as a Grey Warden, but you can definitely warp politics in the game, regardless.

warping politics to suit our own benefit (or attempting to, anyway) sounds good enough for me  Image IPB  nothing bad could ever happen while meddling in politics *cough cough*

I think not, I mean it would be cool and all but I just don't see this game going this way.

I mean think back to Baldur's Gate 2, you save day, you go off to new land, etc. Or Mass Effect, save world, go off to new system, etc.

I mean if you became king that would pretty well lock them in Fereldan and it seems the devs want to explore the entire world a bit.

I just hope you keep your character, as I'd really rather not do the nwn thing, where your one guy, then another guy, then wait the same guy, and then oh wait, another guy. I like some form of continuity.

I assume at end of this, you'll see your impact in all lil regions (think Arcanum/Lionheart style), get a positon with king. Oh wait greater mystery in land X. Go to discover mystery in land X.

I mean Mass Effect, Witcher, they all do the thing where there is always a greater evil. Plus the trailer where the old woman says "This blight is greater then they realize". I am sure there will be some over whelming evil in backround.

I just really hoping my teacher will not betray me this time (Ex: Jade Empire) (Owen, I'm looking at you.) Who knows, maybe we get to the end, and Tim Curry is sipping a cup of tea and turns a army against us....oh wait...that's that other game :P

Nah becoming king is for games like Fable where you can go anyway ya want; plus concerning the fact that Grey Wardens have only recently been let back into the kingdom I highly doubt they'd be eager to plant a Grey Warden on the throne and into the pit of their monarchy.

I can name a few reasons why becoming a king might be a bit of a problem for your main character, but that would be spoiling the surprise for when you find out.

I have to say though, your avatar does look like Steven Segal.

My dwarven noble resolutely believes that he is the rightful heir to the dwarven throne. The humans and elves can have Ferelden and its myriad problems. Orzammer, however, belongs under my PC's firm leadership.

I believe the Dwarven Noble and maybe even the Human Noble will be able to become king/queen maybe. It'd be nice if they could.

Human maybe lesso, but the Dwarf isnt unlikely.

As a dwarf, becoming a Paragon would be better I would think than becoming a king.

Paragon is definitely something casteless drek should hope to aspire to. the King is, in my dwarf's estimation, a living Paragon and ruler of a mighty people.

I shall make it go back to the good old days of Tevinter, a mageocracy.

You will probably be able to gain a considerable amount of power for yourself depending on decisions.

Actually, in BG 2's expansion pack (Throne of Bhaal), which was the conclusion to the Bhaalspawn's story, you had the option to become a god at the end. And if you were evil, your epilogue made it fairly clear you ended up being the only god after having killed the others.

So, you might actually get the option to become a prominent political figure at the end. I don't think you'd get to become knig of Ferelden, though, since as far as I know, even the human noble isn't related to the royal family.

I do not believe that you can become a king or ruler of any sort.

I am sure that your descisions can hold political sway, but that is "all".

Remember, Grey Wardens can't be bothered with politics etc. They would always be Grey Wardens first, kings/queens second. I am not sure the people would like someone sitting on the throne that think of his political post as something secondary.

Not to forget two story-elements. The Grey Wardens would most likely not be entrusted with any major political power in Ferelden. The main reason they do not exist in Ferelden is that they were banished some... 200 years? (Dont quote me on that exact number) ago for being involved in a plot against the then current king. They were exterminated and their order was disbanded/banished from Ferelden. Second, every Grey Warden must go through the "Calling", I think it was called, (Disappearing down the Deep Roads to die gloriously in battle against the Darkspawn) sometime during their lives. This could come at a very inconvinient time.

Then there is the matter of an heir. Can Grey Wardens reproduce? This might sound stupid, but since becoming a Grey Warden... Changes the person in question quite a bit, it would not be unplausible that it would effect their reproducing capabilities? I can imagine that the people and major political figures would not want someone on the throne who's capabilities of producing an heir is questionable (If that now is the case).

And about the "Kings perspective", I imagine that to be more akin to a king getting the news. Not that your character becomes a king, but the way a King would receive news. "In the province of Blahblah occured, due to Nikator doing yiddiyadda", for example.

You CAN become king( or queen if you're female), but only as a Human Noble.
