Some suggest High-Velocity Barrel (Once Omega is Complete) + Magazine Upgrade.

That's pretty much it.

If you don't have Omega, run AR Piercing instead of the HV Barrel.  You want the Mag upgrade either way because it allows you more "hot" firing time.

If you decide to run AP or Warp Ammo on it though, you should take off Piercing and go Extended Barrel.

I would say an Harrier or Mattock as main weapon with extended mag and stability mod.

Add a Talon pistol with extended mag and barrel as a side weapon if you run short of clips

I don't have the Typhoon for SP, and I don't particularly miss the bugged recoil version.

Harrier is a very solid weapon if you have a little aim.  It would be my choice out of the three.

I do not like the Particle Rifle, although it is effective.

All three are good with Incendiary Explosive Burst ammo.  If we are talking about best for weight, it might be hard to beat the Punisher, although it is an SMG.

This. I find the Harrier the best, if anything, for it's straightforwardness.

The PR is great on squadmates though. The AI nails the perfect timing everytime.

Haven't tried the Typhoon yet, but it probably another great squaddie gun.

The Typhoon works better as a squadmate weapon since they are unaffected by the recoil, so you can give them extended barrel and extended magazine.

For personal use, the Typhoon is the post-nerf, pre-recoil fix version, so it has only 0.25 cover piercing and 1.5 damage multipliers while increasing in recoil each time it levels up.

The recoil reduction mod is mandatory, and I would suggest extended mag for more firing time at maximum damage. The gun is going to lose a lot of damage to armor without AP or Warp ammo as a bonus power, but there are not that many boss units until the end of the game, and explosive burst on Incendiary ammo makes up for the lost damage while giving the Soldier class crowd control abilities and setting up fire explosions. I noticed a faster "time-to-kill" versus bosses when using AP ammo, but whether you want to go that route is your call.

I haven't tried the Particle Rifle in singleplayer much since I first got Javik back in March, but I assume it's pretty good.

When I did my Insanity run the first time I used the Revenant with regular armor piercing mod and extended barrel and the Claymore with choke and barrel.
