Save your money.

Terrible advice.

The sound quality you get from a decent sound card is MILES AHEAD of what you get with your motherboard.

Especially if you have decent speakers/headphones.

It really sounds stupid to invest all that money for visuals and have crappy sound.

I made the same mistake caineghis did, I bought a whole system and I got a sound card/headphones a bit after. Big mistake. I was blown away when I first heard what it was capable of. It was definitely more impressive and did more in terms of immersion than a beastly GPU/CPU.

I am glad you're enjoying the PC caineghis. Are you jumping right into the gold pool or building your manifest first?

I'm able to survive now in gold pugs easily due to my knowledge of the enemies mechanics and solo instincts. I'v maxed out my mantis:wizard:

That's awesome.

I look forward to seeing any videos you make.

Mmm interesting discussion. Caratinoid and Caingheis ? What are u r sys specs to get those frame rates? I thought you couldn't get higher than the Hz rating of the monitor ? ID be interested in your comments. And Caratinoid I did finally rid myself of those connection issues.

CPU: i7 core 2700k (overclocked to 4.6 ghz) (with H-100 cooler and 4 noctua 100mm fan Push/Pull)
GPU: ATI radeon 6950 sapphire 2 GB (overclocked)
MOBO: Asus maximus IV extreme
RAM: 32 GB Ripjaw
TOWER: Cooler master storm trooper
HARD DRIVE: 2 TB western digital caviar black
SSD: Corsair 120GB 555 mhz

CPU: i7 core 2600k (overclocked to 4.0 ghz) with big ass noctua
GPU: 2x Geforce 580GTX in SLI (overclocked)
MOBO: Asus P8Z68-V Pro
RAM: 8 GB Ripjaw
TOWER: Cooler Master HAF X
HARD DRIVE: Western Digital Red 3TB + more caviar greens
SSD: Intel X25-M Postville 160GB
Audio card: Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series
POWER: Corsair PSU Gold AX1200 Watt

It runs The Witcher 2 at 120FPS at 1920x1080 at max specs, do I need to say more?:D

Well, actually I do want to say more...

Overclock on CPU can go higher but 4.0 ghz is enough to not cause a bottleneck in games.

I chose this motherboard because of the slot layout, it has an extra slot between my video card and processor for my audio card, there is enough space between the video cards to make sure they don't overheet and it has the same bandwidth as other motherboards for this CPU type (8x when run in SLI).

HAF X is the best case ever, my temps on the video cards don't go over 70 degrees when at full load and this without turning the fans to the max.

same here amxstyle, graphite artist moving to digital slowly! Yeah it rocks. I've been in PC computing since the days when a 10MHz mono 10" green screen cost around £3k Windows didn't exist it was all DOS. My first PC was a P2 and ive gradually built better systems.

I enjoy that as well as the art and photography and playing ME3 of course.

Yeah I agree Caratinoid. The Gameblaster card plugs into the Mobo. It has a creative Core 3D dedicated chip which gives 7.1 surround. I don't use speakers coz I'm in same room as hubbie and he HATES ME3, I know. But I also use Audio-Technica ATH-EW9 headphones which offer amazing quality Coz I have Arthritis in both jaw joints and can't wear gaming headsets.

Yep.

I felt kind of sorry when dudes tried to sneak up on me on BF3, I always heard them coming :D

I think the most important things you should consider when building a new PC from scratch are :

1. Keyboard + Mouse + Mousepad + Chair. Because you use those 100% of the time.
2. Sound.
3. Graphics.

oof, don't you have to redo your manifest or did it transfer over? The benefits of PC gaming are undeniable, but I'd rather move on to other PC games than start over.

Hi SOMETHING_FOR_NOTHING, I have Windows 64bit professional. Don't really need to go above that as a home user. Ultimate offers stuff mainly for businesses. Yeah I do that. Also had a Rampage Extreme IV BF3 SE but it fried and died but it did have free copy of Daemon Tools Pro. All my game discs have been imaged.

The 2 Raptors I run in Raid 0 mode and generally get 300-400 MB/s transfer on that, the two Corsair's usually avg 400-500 MB/s. My Adobe Cloud stuff is on the Intel SSD with Windows. I try to keep it half full that seems to be the most efficient for it. The rest of my stuff is on my RAID drive which equates to 1TB, including ME3. I don't have speed issues on SP, it's incredibly fast and responsive. Just MP drops a bit. And I can rip a dual layer DVD in about 40 mins at HQ to MP4. Edit in Premiere CS6 and then encode to required format, an H.264 1280x720 takes around 10 mins for hour long video. I use AME for that part.

Apologies OP, hijacked your thread slightly. Perhaps open a new one to discuss systems etc.

Yeah I used to have a Haf but they didn't have the X in and I needed to complete the build ASAP, so went for the Corsair.  It is a recommended case for Water cooled systems.  Also has hot swap drive bays.  Useful coz my discs soon fill up.  I have triple copies of all my digital assets.

Itš ultra quiet even under load but lifting it is hernia inducing!

PC's will always be better than a console.
The reason is because the PC has way better hardware than a console.

Also keyboard + Mouse = Best for FPS

Nice, I have the 650D. Bigger then my last case but about 1000x easier to work in. This one's a keeper.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but PC's allow point and click to aim and fire? The headshot accuracy must be worlds better than on an XBOX, right?

Having been said, that would make the PC easier to play vs being better to play on.

Visualy, I would think the higher quality television would mor heavily impact your picture quality. I saw Kane and Lynch look Godly on my friends 3D Samsung....

XBOX is a challenge, no doubt. You will feel every bump in the road, but that is what adds to the experience.

To each his own, but I'll stick to using my PC for sending emails and web browsing. Image IPB Enjoy!

Spoken like a true console scrub B).

And damn Cain, you really have a great gaming rig.

Most impressive, most of the time i see mistakes like this from mostly novice ppl who build there first comp they shove metric tons of ram into and get like 32 bit OS which doesnt even detect all of it and end up getting a new OS or reducing the amount of ram.

I just wish that micro$oft actually told you about there memory restriction limits instead of us looking for it.

anyways i dont ripping or do any cs6/encoding on my machine just pure gaming and a wee side of autocad, and e-tap but what i have now is plenty enough

My PC could easily run ME3, I just don't have the heart to restart myself. Like someone else said if I was going to invest that sort of time again on the PC, I'd probably pick up the witcher series since I hear nothing but good things.

What do we call PC master race users who also like to slum it as a console peasant? A commoner?

I cannot give up the lazy and comfortable gaming style of sitting on the couch and playing a bunch of games. Also post high school 95% of my friends gave up maintaining gaming PC's and went with the easy peasant option. However since I like old school RPG's and RTS games I will always have a somewhat relevant PC. I find immersion in RPG's is greater on the PC platform.

Also Feneckus speaks truth about sound cards, however the sound card isn't going to make any notable difference if you are running $50 Logitech speakers or some other generic trash. It's all a very expensive and ugly path the further you travel into audiophile territory.

I play xbox only because it's harder to find friends irl who even know you can play common console games on a PC as well lol. Plus I'm super rusty with first person shooters using a mouse D:
