Is it bad form to pick a lvl 1 Character for a Gold match?

Too low level characters are an auto kick for me. OP, YOU personally may be able to make a solid contribution to a Gold match with a level 1, but there are far more people that would just be leeching. I actually saw an N7 5 Novaguard with two level I commons try to join a Gold match once. Obviously that's an extreme example, but I can't trust a level 1 stranger to handle themselves in Gold. I call people out for not using equipment, too.

It'd certainly be bad for me to do it. I'm decent at best with a level 20 with high level gear/consumables.

Guess it largely depends on the player.

Yes, yes it is. But if you're rocking a good gun and using consumables and good gear I'll put up with it. Just remember though, in a PUG no one knows who you are, and no, most people can't play gold with a level 1 and do well.

Verily.
If a random gets in my lobby with a lvl 1 character it's an instakick from me, not taking any chances.
And no, I do not care if you have the BFG9000 equipped.

I did play gold at level 1 several times. Didn't get kicked. Perhaps I was just that lucky with lobbies.

depends. nothing wrong with it if you can hold your own. plus throw on a level X harrier AR amp 3, warp rounds 4, and cyclonic 4 and some armored compartments and your level 1 will be the highest damage output in the game with more shields then their level 20s.

all depends on your skill and consumables used, but there is nothing wrong with doing so

Really?
A lvl 1 Destroyer with the setup you mentioned compared to a lvl 20 Destroyer with Harrier IV, AP rounds II, AR Amp II, Cyclonic II.

I'd take the lvl 20.

Level 20 with said gear
http://narida.pytalh...saultRifleAmp5/
Health: 850
Shields: 2250
Weapon Damage: 185.2

Level 1 with max gear
http://narida.pytalh...saultRifleAmp5/
Health: 500
Shields: 2500
Weapon Damage: 187.78

Difference is in powers not the basic stuff

That said, if someone is doing level 1s in gold (and are capable of doing so, not just tryingto leech), they should host or else once lag hits it ends up being very bad

That's exactly my point.
Level 1's don't have access to powers, level 20's do.
That lvl 20 is using sub-par equipment comapred to the lvl 1 and still does more damage per shot.
What if the level 20 is using the same equipment?
I can't think of any situation where a lvl 1 with high end gear would be better then a lvl 20 using normal gear.

Yes it won't be better, but the point is it isn't crippled.   Running a level 1 becomes more of a liability if you are forced to carry a team.   It's sad pugging and the level 1 comes out on top.  It means the match took much longer than it should have.

Depends on who is at the controls, if friends...no issue as they now enough about their abilities that they will decide, personally no...need a level 6+, pugs....forget it

I kick LVL 1's in gold PUG's..in games with friends it can be worked around...picking an easy map/enemy combo (like 3 Krogans vs Geth on Glacier)
Having a LVL 1 in a public game where odds are someone isn't miked as well is a recipe for disaster

Depends on the situation, if the other two on my squad have decent gear equipped then I'll let a level 1 play only because I know I can carry them. However, if everyone has crappy load outs in order to get there geth plasma weapon challenges completed...well there is no way I'm letting that happen on Gold.

Yep, it is bad form and disrespectful to the other players to join as a level 1 demolisher.  You'd be a team liability.  Of course if you are joining friends and they don't mind that is another story.

I let people play Gold at level 1 in PUGs on PC.

They invariably suck, die a lot, and usually quit by round 3.

Yeah, I know all of you routinely top the scoreboard at 1 though...

This thread has a high e-peen level.

I really don't care if you can solo Plat with a lvl 1 Volus Adept, with no gear, no consumables and rocking the Avenger. When I don't know you, you'll get a kickvote.

Is it really that hard to play one or two Silver games before you join a Gold PUG?

Before you know it we get threads on BSN about people who are pissed that their lvl 1 AA, with no gear, no consumables and rocking the Javelin got kicked from a Plat game, even though they normally outscore everyone with that kit.

It depends. If your challenge points and N7 ranking is high enough, I'll know you've played a lot and will let you play a lvl 1 character. I've played a lvl 1 character on gold many times and outscored the team. I have friends who play lvl 1 characters on platinum, but there is a level of trust there because I know they can handle it and they use consumables and shield gear. Also, it depends on what character you bring in. Obviously, a Kroguard at lvl 1 has good survivability, esp with gear and consumables.

Yes it's very bad form to pug gold with a lvl 1 and I will boot or try to. That is unless I know you or if you have friends carrying you then it's a bit of a different story.

I've been burned far too many times to put faith and hope that someone can play a level 1 in gold, in some cases silver for that matter. But I probably just have horrid luck with pugs. *shrug*

Would I kick em, depends on the loadout and class, how well they would synergize with the team, if they are using the "right equipment for the right job."

Mostly I'll be looking at the "blue bar" to see how many times they promoted the class. Anything less than 30 I'd probably ask them to switch up or talk to em and get an idea of what to expect before kicken em.

I've never run into a level 1 pug who has "surprised me" though. They are either garbage as hell, or whats to be expected of a level 1 on gold+. (this is not judging by scoreboard either just to point out, level 1s don't get sexy points for some odd reason)

Now for the bad

I really like how people are saying level 1s are a burden on the team and will be carried. Its really funny because unlike the mentioned above I regularly "outscored" level 20s with my level 1s when I played with the nubs.

I find it also funny that people don't use equipment, failing to realize a 30% bonus on a weapon is more than almost all the points you can put in non turian classes for weapon damage.

Whats even more funny is that someone level 20 could possibly not realize that using a level 1 harrier is no different than a level 1 using a level 10 harrier. (for most classes with weapon damage path)

TO say that level 1s are a burden should also apply to ANYONE AND EVERYONE who doesn't have level X URs and level 3~5 equipment on at all times.

If you're with randoms, don't choose a level one. You might be good enough to play Gold with a level one, but they don't know that since they don't play with you regularly. By all means, try it, but don't expect them to be happy about it.

Yes.

Usually I'll only play Gold with lvl 10+, unless their N7/challenges are really high and they're sporting good weapons/equipment.

Really depends who the players are, if I see a play come in with a high level UR weapon with full consumables equipped, I'm gonna let them stay where they are.

Been outscored by level 1's against my level 20's, it was Final flash and db valiant db behind the controls though.... so I never stood a chance :P

If doing randoms I wouldn't pick a lvl 1 character and I would vote to kick anybody that does if your with friends and they are ok with it then go for it.

Every time I play with a lvl 1 in gold, they're nothing more than a decoy for a few seconds before they go down. I'm sure there are competent lvl 1 players out there, but you can't tell from the lobby and the risk is too great to lose your consumables over.

I think that using a level 1 on Gold is fine as long as you use appropriate gear/consumables. As long as you contribute. That's what's important.
However, I think it's ideal to avoid doing this unless playing with friends. In my humble opinion.
