Is it bad form to pick a lvl 1 Character for a Gold match?

If I see a level 1 with an Avenger VIII, no consumables, and a low N7 I can assume that they're not going to do well, but on the other hand if I see a level 1 with a Harrier X, a ton of consumables and Gear, high N7/challenge points I can assume he's going to do well though as he's obviously been around the block a few times. It's not a foolproof method to weed out the bad players, but it's good enough.

Also depends on their challenge points. If less than 1,000 I'd kick. If over 10,000 I'd trust that they know what they're doing.

I never kick, and I don't care what level you are, or what you're packing.
If we wipe on level 1, so be it. So what if you use up a few precious "consumables", it's you're own stupid fault if you were gullible enough to pay real money for them.
I play Silver and Gold and I'll happily play with any player at any level with any kit. I'll revive you if you go down, I'll do my best to help us get to extraction and if we do that's great. If we don't, it's still a blast for me.
I just wish more players would learn to chill the **** out.

You can pretty easily just slap a great weapon like a Harrier or PPR on any level 1 and use consumables and do fine so long as your team doesn't blow. You probably won't be first in score, but a decent player will be able to do their share.

LOL as bad as "sorry >N7 1000 need not apply for gold or plat / high N7 = high skill level"
Gold can be handled by a lvl 1 with a Predator X and no consumables, hell, someone's probably solo'd gold like that. I sometimes run into gold with just a Pred (on a non-caster), adds a bit of challenge to it all and usually come in 2nd or 3rd
Bottom line is, if you can handle it, by all means, take a lvl 1 in. If people kick you, who cares, joining another match takes about 25 seconds if you're not fussy on location/enemy.
Now I don't use equipment in Gold matches, and the whole "dude's not putting on equipment !! he wants to be carried !!" mentality is just moronic. Putting on high lvl equipment on your lvl 1 will make SOME people see that you're ready to pull your weight but then again you'll always get people who'll kick a lvl regardless of class, loadout, equipment, rating blah blah blah blah blah. Move on, join a new match.
Though, having said all that... lvl 1 characters that are power dependant are more likely to be kicked. But on the rare occassions that I'm hosting, I like to give everyone a chance... even loadouts that aren't exactly gold friendly (IE - people who haven't even maxed starter weapons). I played with a N7 1 on gold not too long ago. The original host left so I invited the player to a game.... they died constantly and quit early, which was inevitable, but sent a message saying thanks for the game blah blah.
I'll admit that I used to be a bit of a hard ass when it came to team loadouts IF I hadn't cleared wave 10 in a couple of consecutive matches but since then I've maxed my manifest so all I need credits for is keeping my d-pad consumables topped up... and the game is more fun than it's been in a long time... then I look at my challenges and see that I only have 2 more to clear, 20 more promotions and grinding 100 waves with the Krogan Soldier & Vorcha Soldier.
I then proceed to remove the ME3 disc from the Xbox and play something else.

In principle I agree... but there is no reason to annoy other people if it can be avoided. I'm quite large in who I play with (I don't think I've ever initiated a kick against anyone except a voice spammer) but I can't be arsed to sit through just about any amount of, to me, annoying gameplay.

This. If I know you and know, that you can handle yourself with a LVL 1, no problem in a private game.
But in public games you'll get the boot, because I don't know you and don't know how you handle yourself with a LVL 1. I'm not going to pupt up with that, so I'm either distributing red x's or I leave.

I would have kicked you for your silly loadout, rather than for the level 1 character. Why the hell do you need two sniper rifles? It's redundant, you just pack a lot of useless weight and you won't be able to use powers in dire situations.Admiral Dreck wrote...

lvl 1 with max gear : OK
lvl 1 with no gear : NO
lvl 20 with no gear : OK
lvl 20 with max gear: OK
still it is unknown if the player will play good or not...so it really doesnt make difference..i have seen all those scenarios..but ya i admit..to see a lvl 1 player dominating the scoreboard is something cant be forgotten

This. The problem is when you run into douchebags with N7 levels lower than yours that kick you for bringing a level 1 character ON SILVER. WITH GEAR, AMMO AND EVERYTHING. I have a N7 score of 1670, I think I can handle a Silver by now.Leland Gaunt wrote...

Speaking from personal experience, wouldn't it be better to do a Silver match or two, just to rack up some easy skill points. If anything it'll make that first Gold match go just that bit smoother, at least that's how i see it anyway.
I've seen some really poor performances from people rocking the weapons we all deem the business and classes that should go to town on any faction, thus load out and equipment only counts for a bit in my decision making.

Why would you want to drag a LVL 20 without gear/equipment through a match? Doesn't make any sense... No equipment = no game, no matter how good your weapons are, your challenge points, your N7 rank, you e-peen. No equipment means you're not ready to ante up for that match and usually those people bail at some point in wave 1-3.
No equipment is the reason why I kick the most.

This is definetly most important. You can be 30K N7 (top N7 possible, not pointing out the person at that ranking either
There is no reason in hell to save equipment, unless you actually dont have it, and if thats the case, its very likely you don't have consumables like medigel or ops packs either, which means you getting the boot FOR SURE!
He's not high, anyone with any thought beyond peanut butter knows to always put on equipment.playfarcry wrote...

I have played with a number of elite players and fellow BotB holders and none of them have tried to use level 1 characters or skimp on equipment on Gold.
As is usual with this kind of thread, there will be those who claimed that they are so awesome they have topped scoreboards with level 1 kits and/or zero equipment. Kindly post pics to back up your claim.

Equipment makes a good game better, equipment makes the best players gods. There is no reason to go without it. You get it in recruit packs. The point isnt that you dont need it. (which I see completely took flight above your head) Its that you "may as well put it on because you wont run out (if your good) and it buffs you so your game wont take 25 minutes."banshees_heart wrote...

Now for those who think 25 minute games is "good" I feel sorry for you for pardoning someone without proper skills and equipment to play along with you....because thats usually the case with any game taking over 20.

best players ARE gods with/without gear
and i never said equipment doesnt affect the game, but this wasnt the point..the point is:
after 1000s of games..sometimes you feel the need for something more challenging..thats when i use no gear.

The only point that is always valid in using equipment IS that you will have so much of it that there is no reason to save it. That IS THE POINT..
Hmm. now if your not getting under 25 minutes in public games you "start" with people using proper equipment, perhaps you should stop "challenging yourself" and start "improving yourself." The whole reason I don't play with those who don't use equipment is gametime. As long as everyone is "equipped" gametime averages out to ~20 minutes, even in pugs.

To me, equipment is a sign of investment and commitment to the team. It's not necessarilly true that you need it, it is just proof that you are ready to help out.

I am constantly using at the very least level 2 or 3 gear, usually level 4.
If you don't have spare equipment for every single match (even if it just shield power cells I) you are playing this game wrong.
OP: Yes it is bad form. I don't care how good you think you are or how many times you have done it before, if your a level 1 in a gold your gone.
