Having finished making my "Fairy Tale" I decided not to make any more modules. Then I started playing a few and whilst nosing around in somebody else's work in order to cheat noticed lots of purple dotted spheres. I then discovered they were sounds, didn't know how they worked, built an area and started messing about with them. Of course that meant the toolset had been opened an area was built and that was it.. I decided to make another mod.

I didn't really know what to make and had no plan as it was a spur of the moment thing but the one part I did know was that it would be for monks and it is. They seem to get forgotten too often and they are by far my favourite class probably due to their simplicity. Anyway I finished off my "snowy howling wolf" area and started to wonder about what a monk was doing there and it all started from that.

I also decided that I wanted to make something that would take a long time and that I would allow to grow by itself with no plan to end until it should and the story completes. All I had was an area, the PC and what happened next was whatever I thought of which was pretty much the same way I wrote Serene.

I'm not really one for announcing what I am doing but having reached a milestone in the story, feeling the need to celebrate with some form of release and having been asked quite a bit about future mods I decided that I'd throw this one into the hat.

Anyway as I said earlier it's for monks and currently runs from level 1 to 14, it consists of 7 modules so far with loads of areas and heaps of conversations with romance and high kicking madness along the way. It's called Bad Habits and has taken me about a year so far ( hence the title of this post ) and I reckon I'm probably about half way in it's creation now but it's hard to say as it could go anywhere . The title comes from monk's attire, some very naughty robed brethren who haven't appeared yet and one companions very dubious pastime.

Here are some screenshots..

Lol, sounds to me like you have an addiction there. I know I have ...

I don't play monks much, if at all so this will be fun to try. Shout out whent he playtesting starts.

Even the modules about habits ! But at least it's a harmless one that's taught me a lot of things so I'm happy and there's nothing but rubbish on the tv anyway !.

Only a year?

Looks pretty, and I like both monks and class-specific modules, so I'm adding my voice to PJ's and volunteering as a tester if you ever need one.

And just because:

Looking good so far Tsongo! Your areas always look good. I'd be up for play testing when the time comes as well :)

Well I'm sorry to say that I don't think I'll be using either of those two tracks as a theme tune but the first would be a bit more suitable.

Arkalezth... It might be 13months I can't remember when I started it but it's definitely around about a year, Fairy Tale took that long and Serene was a year and a half and it's about the same size as them now. I avoid getting bogged down in technical stuff/ scripting, let what the toolset can do influence what I build rather than try to alter it's behaviour/models and by now I know a lot of shortcuts..

OfficerDonNZ.. Thank you I think area making's my favourite bit with conversations a close second. .

With regards to play testing it's a long way off and this is rather big in fact I've only just done a whole run through as up until now I've just tested each module individually but thanks for the offers .

-Semper- Thank you and I'm actually hoping on creating a few "monk converts" with it by using all their abilities like Diplomacy, Sneaking, Kicking, Chopping and Punching but not necessarily in that order. The only problem is that there comes a point where unarmed strikes are far more powerful than kamas/staffs but I'm working on it as I want to be able to try it as a dual kama wielding lunatic or staff wielder like in the "monkey" tv show.

I personally like class-specific modules, especially for cloth-wearers, since those presumably won't send attackers balanced for a plate-wearing tank after my poor clothie.

I don't have much experience with monks, aside from Khelgar in the OC, but I was impressed with the abilities, so I should enjoy another.

Tchos.. I think it's probably easier to have your "clothie" as a monk because hostile villains tend to go straight for casters and certainly in this there are points where sorcerer protection is required. Pretty much the whole party is low AC with the most "tankest" member being a swashbuckler however that's all going to change soon with a new arrival but everybody's pretty high level so bonuses and spells have really started to kick in.

I hope you do enjoy this one day and you'll see that Khelgar wasn't a real monk he just wanted to be able to move faster because he had short legs !

kamal.. Could you tell that to some of my customers please ? But seriously it's all pretty much vanilla toolset stuff with a few hak paks thrown in and I always try working out ways around making things difficult and avoiding scripts ( most are done in conversations because they're already there ). The one part that slowed me down was making a city and due to an act of madness and how the story went I made a return visit to it ! I had heard rumours of people making modules all in a city Posted Image

ps the third screenshot down is a result of your FX tutorial which was one of the rare times I changed something and it only happened due to your step by step guide which I really appreciated as I needed a magical clearing in the woods and so did my dryads.

Great news - I love monks (almost as much as rogue/mages) - in fact my main playtesting character is a monk - based on an old P&P character.

So its great to hear that there's adventures specifically for them.

Now just need an 8 day week so I can get time to play alongside all the building!

Clyordes.. I know the feeling, I download modules that I want to play but am busy with the story of my own and don't want to break the flow because that means replaying a chunk again to remember what just happened so they sit on my hard drive waiting to be let loose. Plus there's the override issue, mine get's stuffed with everything and then I make a final hak when it's done but I get a bit lazy to keep emptying it and putting it back.

ColorsFade.. Thank you very much, I've just finished module number 8 and started number 9 and will be putting up a few more shots from a couple of playtests soon. I've finally reached the area I've been wanting to build for ages having been inspired whilst reading a school book with my daughter.. It's nothing like the one in her book but the idea of it existing and the name's the same.

One question: Where did you get all the mushrooms? They are awesome.

I am just starting to learn the toolset so I can make my campaign. It's loads of fun. RWS's content is amazing.

ColorsFade: Those are in the toolset.  If you haven't done so already, I recommend installing the Usability Tools plugin for the toolset, so you can easily search through the library of placeables with a text search/filter.

They're in the placeables under "nature props" I just changed the scale, put a placed effect of either mushroom haze or haze green ( I can't remember which ) and stuck a light above them. Then went to lights and put in a white one ( it's got no name just a lt_white tag ) just abve the mushrooms, changed its colour settings ( I think diffuse is the nost important ) and set the range to about 3. To save time and having to keep making them change the tag and template of your new light and right click it then create a blueprint.

If you select blueprints there is a filter box, select placeables, type mushroom in the filter box make sure the name box is ticked and hit enter that will bring up the mushrooms too.

Happy toolsetting !
