I chose Liara also because SHE DIED WITHIN THIRTY SECONDS OF EVERY FIGHT STARTING!

You aren't using her correctly in that case and/or have her spec'd wrong.

Liara in both ME1 and ME3 completely owns in combat when she is used correctly. Singularity, warp, and stasis are a winning combo. She is almost overpowered. She's basically a caster however, so like a mage in a fantasy RPG you don't want her tanking.

If you play a more combat or tech oriented class, Liara is easily one of the most effective squadmates to have on your team. If your Shep is a biotic however, you might see her abilities as redundant. Of course some players like to double down on biotics, but that is an individual gameplay preference.

Anyway, my vote for worst would be Jacob. While I didn't hate the character, he is probably the least interesting of any of the squadmates in the entire series. His abilities aren't really that great either. He is basically a combat/biotic hybrid, but other squadmates you obtain in ME2 are better at both. In terms of abilities there is no reason to put him on your squad when you've got better biotics, and better tanks.

How are all of you having such trouble keeping liara alive. Seriously I play on hardcore on everything (except rannoch reaper) or on insanity and she doesn't usually die Edi dies a lot not liara. I don't give liara directions and she generally doesn't die

Lucky.

I think I know what's happening with you guys. She only dies a lot if she doesn't get to cover fast enough cause that is the only time she dies in my games plus come on the medi gel isn't exactly hard to come by I use it to regain health if I have to.

It all comes down to our classes and personal tactics styles....I am very tactics heavy, but my tactics are much better suited to ranged combat....I have noticed this reocurring theme for me in all my games...ME, Skyrim, Oblivion, FO3 and FONV.....Is an extremely rare event for my Protaganist or his/her (always female for some reason in the FO's....male otherwise) sidekicks to die on any level of difficulty once I know the mechanics of the combat in a game....But a squaddie like Liara who is both a squishy and a close combateer, she really doesn't play well with my style of tactics...I am a slow moving sedate player, taking my time...lining up shots and postioning, etc...and heavy on battlefield layout stategy.....Liara dies constantly on me, I also had similar trouble with Miranda and Grunt....the rest of the team never die though.

Jacob.

I'm one of the few people who like jacob. I find his story interesting, I like his personality as just a normal person in a scheme much larger than himself. He seems like someone whose a middle position person and knows it, not powerful or weak, but just a piece in a orginizaition he isn't sure about. In fact in ME2 he's the one squadmate I enjoyed talking to the most due to his more grounded character.

But with that said, he doesn't go anywhere, ever. Kaidan started interesting but bland and had no real use on the battlefield. But he at least got more useful and interesting to talk to in ME3.

Ashley I always liked and saved on virmire due to her unique perspective on things. She is much more practical about things and speaks her mind openly. She's blunt and straight forward, and it's good to see someone show some intellect in not being a little suspicious of me. I mean, two years and a new body give a lot of room for cerberus to **** with you, it's good to have someone have some reservations to trust me after that. Hell, if I could I'd order ash to watch me and make sure I didn't do something crazy like black out and start obeying orders from cerberus, or make sure I wasn't indoctrinated, or just offer an opposing viewpoint.

But jacob...he doesn't do anything. He stays how he is, just regular jacob. Once Me2 is done and he kinda just stops being a character. I didn't romance him so I didn't get that subplot, but him moving on didn't seem to do much of anything at all. He was still plain as yogurt jacob, and that killed my enjoyment of him back in ME2.

I think it's hilarious that this thread has gone from a which one of these three do you like the least of these three, to How to properly use Liara. It makes me laugh, even though Liara getting love makes me sad.

I too, liked Jacob. He didn't get enough love, so he was screwed in 3. A real shame.

It went that route because you made an incorrect statement about gameplay.

As far as gameplay is concerned Liara is certainly not even close to being the worst squadmate in the series. She is easily one of the best squadmates in terms of abilities, to the point where she is almost overpowered.

Now of course whether you like how the character was written or voice acted is a totally different story, and boils down to personal preference.

But Liara owning in combat? Fact.

I agree Liara isn't the worst one in the series. Jacob has that title firmly for himself. His powers were just rubish.

Powers wise I actually think Ash copped the worst end of the stick in ME3....but she can redeem herself on the battlefield if kitted out right....Black Widow....

Tactics wise though...for some of us anyway....Liara is the worst squaddie.

Ashley. I loved her in ME1, cried a little on the inside for not getting her in ME2, and hated her with a bloody passion in ME3, for many reason (One of which is that she is completely useless and only serves as eye candy... Way to degrade her character -_-). I just have one question for Bioware, "Seriously?"

Kaiden isn't a character. I've never heard of him. Kaidan on the other hand....

Funny, I couldn't stand Ash in ME1....but love her in ME3....as a hetro female her eye candy status has zero effect on me....it's her personality and lack of Shep worship that has me hooked in ME3....I LOVE the new Ash.

I just don't like a teammate who disobeys orders, does NOTHING in the shadow broker fight, and will not get the point that Shepard isn't interested.

^This! :D

But if I HAVE to chose fromt he list then Ashley, namely because I hardly ever use her and always kill her off. I don't see how my team lacks anything without her.

Ashley. I like her voice actor but I can't stand that racist idiot on my ship.

Crawl into a nuke and die, Gunnery Chief Williams.

Your favorite character is the worst character tbh.

Agreed. They suck so bad.

And that thing they did that you really enjoyed was the worst bit in any Mass Effect, ever.

Pointless thread is pointless. I mean, doesn't this just boil down to personal preference and playstyle?

From a character perspective, Jacob.

From a gameplay perspective, since I only played infiltrator and engineer, I'd say Liara in ME3, since her skill set doesn't complement mine really well. Her fragility doesn't help either. ME2 Jacob was also not that good.

Jacob. Cliche daddy issues, cliche high-horse-er involved with a morally ambiguous organization, cheats on you, and then refuses to rejoin you on the Normandy for a terrible reason. Plus, he just plain boring.

Kaidan would be next, he's really whiny and sensitive. Another squadmate cliche.

For me as far as teammates go,

Ash. I used her the least on ME3, even less than Jacob on ME2. Kaiden is very... capable in ME3 for my enginner Shep. Reave is really useful if you can Slam or Pull someone.

There should be an ME Club for Daddy Issues:

Liara: Dad stalks her. Didn't really know her that well.
James:  Isn't even worried about if his dad is alive or not.
Wrex: Patricide
Ash: Trying to clear her family name due to her dad's muck up.
Tali: Had to deal with an entire trial to clear her dad's name.

I know. I hate this about Mass Effect. Don't forget:

Garrus: He and dad don't look "eye to eye", hates Spectres
Jack: Hates the Illusive Man, who can be seen as her father figure as she was raised by Cerberus
Miranda: Is being hunted by her father
Grunt: Hates Okeer, sees him as weak
Thane: Is a bad father and tries to reconcile with his son

And even Shepard's father is conspicuously absent in the Space background.
