I want the Warden to be a random encounter on the world map.

Having taken on a bet from the other wardens the Warden has been down in the deep roads for more than five years. Fighting darkspawn without even taking a break during this time.
Having won that bet easily the Warden decides that enough is enough and goes back to the surface. However, having been down with the darkspawn for so long all the time has also affected our Warden's looks and sanity.

When we meet the Warden he/she doesn't look like an elf/human/dwarf anymore. Instead the Warden looks like a darkspawn! Having been affected with them too much can probably even change a mighty Warden.

As you meet our former hero you will find him/her busy invoking the rite of conscription on any unfortunate person walking by and then have them dragged down to the deep roads to keep up the good fight.
You have to interact with the warden yourself of course. Doing so will make one of your followers being recruited at random and they will be forever gone from the game.
If you're playing solo the Warden will recruit you instead and from thereon you have to play the rest of the game with one of your followers.

You can refuse and try to fight of course. But that will only lead to your ultimate demise as the Warden will murder knife without the fight even starting then.
If you make this encounter the game will overwrite every savegame with the current character so that you have to interact with him/her no matter what save you load.

If the Warden is dead you will meet his/her corpse being possesed by a demon. While being on the lookout for the thieves who had the nerve to rob the Warden's grave.
Thinking that everyone could be the thief the abomination will attack anyone on sight.
Fortunately since it is a walking corpse, it will be treated as a low level encounter.

Actually one way to do it, would be for our new character to just meet their LI (if the warden has one) and have the conversation with them. Then at the end of the cameo just seeing that LI walking towards the warden who simply greets with a nod.

That's very neat! Who would represent the Warden if they didn't romance anyone though? Depending on when the scene happens, I suppose Morrigan could be up for the task.

I would think Alistair would be the one to chat it up. He made some brief mentions to Hawke about the Warden in DA2, and I believe it was implied that they still talk (if the Warden is still alive).

Alistaire was pretty much the only party member (aside from Morrigan) that you NEEDED to have with you, and he already showed up in DA2 regardless of what happened in DA:O.

Plus, Morrigan would be a bad choice of this, since she went off and disappeared at the end of DA:O pretty much no matter what...

No, I don't want any of this Mary Sue crap. It would be insanity for a Warden to spend five years straight doing nothing but combing the Deep Roads for Darkspawn. Most Dead Legion recruits don't even last that long, and they fight in groups!

Grey Wardens are not super-powered Darkspawn-hunting invincible He-Men. They're mortal (demi)humans. Not only that, but the isolation would be psychologically traumatising.

EDIT: I just read the rest of Nattfare's post. It sounds like bad fanfiction. Please, just no.

There's a Zombie Alistair in DA2? I never knew! Doesn't anyone here ever stay dead?

Ahem. I'm pretty sure Alistair doesn't work if he's dead, so what about Wardens who didn't romance anyone and had him die, either by having him kills the archdemon or by letting anora execute him? My canon warden did the latter -- on the other hand, Anora could sort of serve as the LI for him -- but then what about LI-less Wardens who didn't marry her and had Alistair die?

Ah, sorry, I forgot that was an option, for him to die.

Well, then... *shrug* I got nothing. Past that point, with no love interests and his/her only companion from the very beginning dead, well, it doesn't really matter WHO shows up to talk about the Warden, does it?

I hope we get to see our DA:O wardens it would be nice to find out how he/she is doing! I would hate to hear mention about him in DA3 I would love to see my warden even if its not a party memeber as a NPC hell that would be enough for me =)

So, question, what does your Warden sound like?

That's the only issue I have. I'd imagine they can assign a voice based on what voice pack you picked for your DA:O character, but I don't see them putting in a bunch of lines from a good dozen or two voice actors just for a few lines of dialog.

I'll only accept a voiced Warden PC if Hawke is found dead.

Until then, let the Warden disappear in peace.

Maybe a non companion character? Like... whoever shows up at the end during the coronation scene?

Gah I still hope bioware stays away from the warden, I don't want them to decide the fate of a character I consider of my creation.

Hawke doesn't matter to me, s/he was always biowares character anyway.

I consider it just a matter of time until the Warden ends up like Revan.

What? Memory-erasing trauma that completely negates his previous personality so he can be whatever the Bioware devs want him without directly overwriting your choices from DA:O? That would be one way to do it, yes...

(I know this is kind of backwards for what happened in KotOR, but I just wanted to make a joke out of it. ;))

Seriously, though, both Revan and The Exile just kinda disappeared into the sunset at the end of KotOR 1 & 2, and now I just now realized that they did the same damn thing to DA:O and DA2. That kind of bothers me.

Wonderful how you call the "warden" or "wardens" protagonist....And its about the world??? Okay I guess that whole blight thing destroying everything in its path and the return of dragons, or old Gods on Thedas has nothing to do with the world right??? And sure the Grey Wardens have nothing to do with any of that.... BS, They'll never bring back the "warden". Bioware is to fond of screwing with your mind.

An off screen cameo like when Alistair mentions his queen in Dragon Age 2 would be the best way of bringing the Warden into the story without having them appear. I'm in the group that agrees an on screen cameo or off screen kill off with the Warden will be disastrous. The former is just impossible to execute correctly while the latter is just lazy/bad writing.

My hope is that they clear any holes left in the Warden's story through the usage of Origins style epilogue slides at the end.

The Warden is Bioware's second Revan and I'm okay with that. I don't want to see him as an NPC. Instead... I would like to play as him just one more time.

I want the Wardens (as an organization) to make a come back, and not necessarily my Warden. I imagine that would be problematic for the devs to incorporate, with all the outcomes we had to chose from and the voice issue.

But the Wardens themselves are a terrific piece of lore and it would be a shame to only see it referenced in passing from now on.

Personally I want to see my Warden again. But, Gaider has already said we wont seek it in DA3 unless it seems right and is done right (Which most likely means we wont see the Warden in DA3 at all). Also, people who work on the Dragon Age Franchise have said that just because you don't see your Warden in DA3, doesn't mean he wont be in future games. Same goes for Hawke.

No, it would be too complex to implement (voice acting, personality, and appearance differences). And I hope he/she doesn't show up - I'd be annoyed if my warden showed up and had a completely different personality to the one that I envisaged while playing as him.

Besides there is enough complaining and whingeing on these boards- and it would only cause more if the Warden returned.

But what would the BSN be without the complaining and whingeing? ;)

If Bioware is comfortable saying what won't be in the game, I would hope they would put this to rest if they were sure it wasn't happening.

Wasn't there some developer who made some comment about how we'll see Hawke and the Warden again?

Despite that I really hope they drop the idea. It will just end up disappointing people for the million and one reasons people have gone over in this thread and a bunch of others. The only way I could really see the warden making a cameo and NOT making a lot of people angry is if there's a section of the game where you actually get to play as him/her and define their personality a bit. Seems like there's a lot better things to devote resources to.

Hawke would be a bit easier, since there's just the three personality flavors to choose from. Even then though...my mage Hawke was a relentlessly evil, demon-dealing bloodmage who joked constantly in whatever messed up situation she was in because she lacked human empathy and sided with the templars at the last minute because it seemed like the best way to murder the competition.

I don't see how boxes in a save import ticked on "female," "mage," "sarcastic" and "supported templars" can really communicate that sort of character. Unless maybe it reads stuff like whether you sold some kid's soul to a demon, sold Fenris back into slavery and/or murdered that dwarf merchant guy for absolutely no reason at all and checks a box marked "evil."
