A line that would not have being out of place in an episode of 'Allo Allo'. I can all to easily imagine the late Carmen Silvera speaking it.Thats why i hope if the pc has a french accent, its a good one.FemaleMageFan wrote...

But we'll be used to the accent by then, having been exposed to dozens of Orlesian NPCs in DA3.Elfman wrote...
But then they'll still have to have an Orlesian character for DA4.Geordie.(is it too much to ask for a Brummie or Scouse PC?).
Geordie accent would be awesome.

If the PC ends up with a bad accent, that is potentially game breaking to me. I still to this day can't play the male Hawke in DA2. I only ever get a few hours into the game and just can't stand the way I sound.

As much as I dislike Orlesian accents, it's still better than having a generic British accent like every other fantasy game, why is everyone in fantasy almost always British?
I'm all for an Orlesian accent. It's better than being another Fereldan.
I don't understand what America's problem with the French accent/France is. I love female French accents! <3:wub:
Male ones always feel like a gimmick (thank you

It's quite a conundrum. Some people would love it, others would hate it. If the PC doesn't have a French accent, then it may require tap dancing to explain what the non-Orlesian is doing in Orlais.
Of course, if we are Orlesian, wouldn't we be able to speak Orlesian (read, French) with other Orlesians? Orlesian is its own language, they don't just have outrageous accents and only speak the common tongue.
In cases like that, will my PC start speaking French with English subtitles? Even crazier... what will the French localization efforts look like?
Sacrebleu!
Sweet, a chance to use my french, then.
Merde!

(Of course, that the game is set in Orlais is unconfirmed)

I'm french and i find this post offensive
As a Southerner from America, I find people are often annoyed by "country" American accents.
I don't have one, but they don't bother me. I can understand why they do bother some people.
I don't think people who don't enjoy Southern accents are offensive. I don't like accents from people from New Jersey. That just means I don't watch shows like Jersey Shore... I don't think it means I am offensive to people from New Jersey.
Not saying that your feelings don't have merit, as you obviously have them. But finding annoyance at the way Orlesian (French) accents have been done previously in the DA games is not neccessarily a condemnation of the French people or their way of life. In fact, the Orlesian voice overs in the DA games I would imagine are more insulting to you as a French person than the fact that people find them annoying.

I'd rather play a native than a foreigner. Bioware plots are generally enhanced by having a reason for your character to care about the country the game is set in. And the companions are likely to be very heavy on the foreigners.

LOL Of course, of course.

I was joking ^^
In fact in France we dislike our english accent and we try to supress it as far as possible. And Orlesian voice remind me of my english class ^^

Pretty much this.
Also, while I wouldn't care either way if the protagonist is Orlesian or not, I sure as hell hope the PC isn't from Ferelden again.
Stinky Ferelden Turnips
I hope our PC has an Orlesian accent :3

I look forward to mocking ze Fereldan turneeps with my Orlesian accent.
This shouldn't have me laugh as much as it did...
Anyways, I'd rather not have the PC speak with an Orlesian accent, but I'll deal with it if I have too. It's not really a deal-breaker for me.

I have no problem with the new game being in Orlaise, but please don't make my protagonist have an Orlesian accent. There is something irritating about those supposedly french accents. I put up with it with Leliana in Origins, but it really annoyed me. If my pc has that kind of accent I'm going to have to play the game with the sound off!
Anyone else not like Orlesian accents?
...You do realize that Leliana was voiced by a French actress and that was a genuine French accent, right?

Now that I write that, I suppose that the obvious fake accents are the worst, and in some cases (Baron Arlange), I'm sure it was done on purpose. I think that if they were going to go as far as having our PC speaking with an Orlesian accent then they will get an actual French actor for it.
I do hope Stephane Cornicard (Riordan/Stroud) is in DA3 at some point, it just wouldn't be a DA game without him! XD

Are we going to be able to understand those who speak Orlesian? Will any companions we are with unable to speak Orlesian? Will the translations be done through subtitles? Wi we just magically understand the spoken words?
I think it would honestly be easier from a logistics perspective to just make us a PC who only speaks the Common Tongue, like a Fereldener or a person from the Free Marches (or a dwarf, but we know the game is going to be Human only).

In fact, if our character was Kirkwall and was running away to escape the chaos caused during the Qunari invasion or the martial law by Meredith, I think this would be a funny touch. Although possibly a little limiting in how customizable our backgrounds would be.
