Maybe this would be an opportunity for the difference in the attitude a character can display. Sort of like an origin but with an actual effect. I don't see what the repulsion is!

Honestly, I think the developers are probably aware that the player accent needs to be somewhat neutral. DA2 was honestly about the limit I can take with some accents for the player. There are good accents and bad accents for each 'language'.

If the PC ends up with a bad accent, that is potentially game breaking to me. I still to this day can't play the male Hawke in DA2. I only ever get a few hours into the game and just can't stand the way I sound.

I'd rather play a native than a foreigner. Bioware plots are generally enhanced by having a reason for your character to care about the country the game is set in.  And the companions are likely to be very heavy on the foreigners.

(Of course, that the game is set in Orlais is unconfirmed)

I don't have one, but they don't bother me. I can understand why they do bother some people. 

I don't think people who don't enjoy Southern accents are offensive. I don't like accents from people from New Jersey. That just means I don't watch shows like Jersey Shore... I don't think it means I am offensive to people from New Jersey.

Not saying that your feelings don't have merit, as you obviously have them. But finding annoyance at the way Orlesian (French) accents have been done previously in the DA games is not neccessarily a condemnation of the French people or their way of life. In fact, the Orlesian voice overs in the DA games I would imagine are more insulting to you as a French person than the fact that people find them annoying.

In fact in France we dislike our english accent and we try to supress it as far as possible. And Orlesian voice remind me of my english class ^^

I would love to be an Orlesian with a pretty Orlesian accent! You know, assuming we're from Orlais. If not, I agree that a character from Kirkwall with the usual British accent could also work. I don't hate the idea of being from Ferelden again, but I think it'd be nice to play someone from a different country this time.

Well it really would depend on what it sounds like. I'm not going to just go and say that all Orlesian accents, or all French accents, are horrendous o_O. Leliana is nice for a mellow tone, while that cute serving elf at Duke Prosper's party is good for a higher, younger, tone; I certainly don't want to sound like Erlina, Anora's lady's maid. Riordan/Stroud is quite nice, whereas Baron Arlange is just awful.

Now that I write that, I suppose that the obvious fake accents are the worst, and in some cases (Baron Arlange), I'm sure it was done on purpose. I think that if they were going to go as far as having our PC speaking with an Orlesian accent then they will get an actual French actor for it.

I do hope Stephane Cornicard (Riordan/Stroud) is in DA3 at some point, it just wouldn't be a DA game without him! XD

My problem with an Orlesian PC is not the accent (although that could be handled poorly), but dealing with the fact that we will be able to speak Orlesian, we will be in Orlais and, hence, surrounded by people who have no real reason to speak the Common tongue in every instance imaginable.

Are we going to be able to understand those who speak Orlesian? Will any companions we are with unable to speak Orlesian? Will the translations be done through subtitles? Wi we just magically understand the spoken words?

I think it would honestly be easier from a logistics perspective to just make us a PC who only speaks the Common Tongue, like a Fereldener or a person from the Free Marches (or a dwarf, but we know the game is going to be Human only).

In fact, if our character was Kirkwall and was running away to escape the chaos caused during the Qunari invasion or the martial law by Meredith, I think this would be a funny touch. Although possibly a little limiting in how customizable our backgrounds would be.
