Why shouldn't it be, it's not violating any rules that I'm aware of.

Non voiced PC would be better but as it is most likely not going to happen, I wouldn't mind the accents. As long as theyr are well done, in MotA the Orlesian sounded too much like english speaking VA imitating the french accent, well the french accent you have when you just had three weeks of english lessons and were not paying much attention.
Baron Arlange was especially irritating
Just to make it clear, I am french, I lived in the UK for a long time and have been asked more time than I care to count why I don't "sound french" when I speak english, so OTT french accent does get on my nerve pretty quickly.

Leliana VA was perfect for the role, she's a french woman who lived in english speaking country, so her accent was pretty much spot on with the character.

I actually thought she was putting it on before I looked her up .

Plot twist: Since we're in Orlay, why would ANYONE be speaking english at all? So it would be perfectly reasonable if it were all "translated" into the Queen's english. Did characters from Jade Empire speak in derogatory ching chongs?

That is also a possibility, akin to english being the "transcripted version" of the common tongue in LotR.

I think it would be cool for my Character to have a Orlaisan/French accent. I think it is one of the loveliest accents to listen to. (Granted I wouldn't be overjoyed to sound like Leliana when I played a female. But that has nothing to do with the accent.)

That would be weird, though. If we are all assumed to be speaking Orlesian, what will people who speak the Common Tongue, like Dwarves, Fereldeneers and Free Marshians sound like?

I could perhaps settle for Riordan, but then the game would have to be good (okay, decent) as well.

Swedish accents, pls.

Seriously, the Qunari should have swedish accents. I'm imagining it now, and it's frikking GLORIUOS!

Leave the Swedish accents to the people from the Anderfels, they even have Nordbotten up there! I will audition and work for no pay ^^

I'm cool with an Orlesian accent for the main character as long as Jean Reno voices the male version.

I do wonder if my native Dutch accent is used anywhere in Thedas.

I actually liked them in the DA2 DLC, but I really couldn't stand Leliana. I think that was probably the VA's own... talent, however (which was further hurt by bland tell-don't-show writing).
For a bard, I found literally EVERY OTHER PARTY MEMBER a better story teller - they all tell one at some point. Wynne was easily the best. Leliana easily the worst. The way Alis said "tainting it... and themselves" sounds a little comical, but he's still better.

Accents do not matter to me anywhere NEAR as much emotion, stress, and a character's 'sincerity' does. (It's why I'll always take a sub over a dub.)

I wouldn't mind my pc having an orlesian accent as long as it is done well and not so heavy i can't understand it. Isolde was waaay over the top for me.

I hope so, since all leans towards Orlais. Don't think they'll be though, just because a lot of people hate French accents.

And a lot of people like french accents.

I only like them on women, on men..... just no.

I don't mind, one of the protagonists in the Assassins Creed games has an accent and I don't care at all. There are also times when he speaks Italian, I play with subtitles on so I understand what is going on.

On a side note, I actually learned some Italian from that game.

Well, then I want the game to visit the Anderfels.  Nordbotten, really? That makes me kinda fuzzy inside..

On a side note, shouldn't Anders have a Swedish accent in that Case?

Well I really hope the PC is from Orlais, I do not want to play a character that is treated like a 'foreigner' again.

So, yes, I do hope the PC has an accent.

I hardly think that most characters we meet in Orlais will have the ridiculous, over the top accent we've seen from most Orlesians thus far.

Alistair was speaking in a particular tone when relating this "story" because he is recounting the Chantry's version of the origin of the darkspawn, so he is purposely dramatic. He also is not a fan of the Chantry, so his skepticism colors his words.

If he/she's from Orlais it only makes sense that the PC has an Orlesian accent, I do hope it won't reach Isolde levels of annoyance tho. Will be tricky for BW to pull this off in a good fashion since if I don't like the VA('s) at all I can't be bothered.

Could never finish a male shepard playthrough in ME because the male VA didn't resonate with me at all, stopped playing that after 10 minutes thank god for Jennifer Hale she did an amazing job with femshep.

But we'll be used to the accent by then, having been exposed to dozens of Orlesian NPCs in DA3.

(is it too much to ask for a Brummie or Scouse PC?).

Geordie.

Geordie accent would be awesome.

I'm a Geordie and I second this.

way aye.

I'm also a Geordie and I third it.  Or fourth it.
