Ideally, I'd like to have Elias Toufexis (the voice of Adam Jensen) voice the male PC.

He suited the character of Adam Jensen just fine, but unless he would be giving a different kind of performance, I would prefer the voice of the male version of the main character in Dragon Age III not sound so flat and emotionless. I had my fill of that with Mark Meer as Shepard, which is one of the reasons that I have more female Shepard playthroughs in Mass Effect than males.

I am about to blow your mind.
This is Hawke, with a French accent.  Look at it; it's magnificent.   Here is a FERELDAN guy, talking in a French accent.

Similarly, I think an ORLESIAN guy can talk in an *ENGLISH* accent.

I maintain that if we're playing an Orlesian PC, in Orlais, I'd prefer we speak Orlesian (French), with English subtitles. Unless Orlesian isn't a language but a cultural dialect (think that's the word I'm looking for). Kind of like cockney, or Geordie, or Newfanese, incomprehensible though some of those may be at times they are still English. If so I guess we're stuck with the accent in which case all I ask is that we lean more towards the Merovingian (French guy in the Matrix, doubt I'm spelling it right) and Leliana and less toward Jean Chretien and Celine Dion.

What?! Orlesian accents are awesome!! I'd love it! Plus, in a fantasy game especially, it would help with suspending disbelief. Having a British accent while everyone else is French would suck, unless the PC came from somewhere else, which would be ridiculously convenient I think.

I have no problem with the new game being in Orlaise, but please don't make my protagonist have an Orlesian accent. There is something irritating about those supposedly french accents. I put up with it with Leliana in Origins, but it really annoyed me.  If my pc has that kind of accent I'm going to have to play the game with the sound off!

Anyone else not like Orlesian accents?

You should be able to choose your own accent. That said, I want my PC to speak speak w/ a South African accent.

I was thinking that Jean Reno should voice the male PC.

Which Jean Reno?

This one?

Yeah. That could work. He's a really good actor.

There are hundreds of really good choices for male and female actors.

I have another two.

Pascale Chemin (Female Shepard)  Skip to the second half of the video.
Boris Rehlinger (Male Shepard)

Damn you youtube. Not a single video of French Female Shepard!

What?  What's with the hate on the Canadians!  The Orlesian PC should be French Canadian!

Plus I think a Jean Chretien accent would be hilarous!   Especially if the Inquisitor said this at some point:  www.youtube.com/watch

But Bioware are a bunch of Albertans so we're more likely to see a Peter Lougheed reference than a Jean Chretien one.
Yeah for Canadian political references (that probably only a small percentage of BSN actually get).

No hate on the Canadians, I am Canadian, but as you point out Chretien's accent is goofy, and Celine's is horrid.  I'm not going to say anything about her singing ability but when she speaks it sounds like somebody is drowning a walrus.

I don't mind a French Canadian accent, just not one of those.

If the protagonist is Orlesian then I would personally hope for an Orlesian accent.

Bioware has created something great with Thedas. So I would love the setting and the characters to feel as authentic as possible.

I would rather have a *decent* Orlesian accent than the high-class English totty one I was lumbered with in DA2. No harm to the actress, but I am from Glasgow, and I do not sound like her, which makes it a bit difficult to 'bond' with my female Hawke! Lots of people in here have referred to the generic 'British' accent in DA. It's actually an English accent, or accents. Sebastian has a Glasgow accent like mine, so if the game went to Starkhaven, I would expect that to be the default accent. Then again, in times of war, refugees end up anywhere they can find safety, so an accent mix could happen. Just, please, don't leave the Orlesians sounding like rejects from 'Allo 'Allo!  I liked Riordan's accent (even though he has an Irish name, and is from Highever, lol).

Considering the demographics of Britain, Estuary English would be the generic accent. No country has the same accent all over.

And yes, I consider the UK a country.

Why should there even be an accent, if the game is set in Orlais? If I speak in my native tongue I don't have an accent, only If I change to another language.

Just give the people from Ferelden a more obvious british accent in this game to highlight the fact that there is a difference to the "standard" american english used for the main characters.

"Supposedly"? Leliana's voice actress is actually French. She is a French woman, from French France.

It's hilarious to me that whenever the topic of accents comes up, Leliana's genuinely French one gets lambasted for being "fake" and "awful", but nobody ever complain's about Zevran's Spanish (or whatever) accent, which is totally fake.

+1

Though I like Zevran's accent anyway ;)

Zevran's accent is great, and way sexy in my own opinion. I'm just commenting on the hilarious irony of all these apparent connoiseurs of language being unable to identify a genuine French accent.

I am able to admit that I don't know the first thing about telling a fake accent from a real one. That's why I research, instead of just assuming that I'm right.

I wouldn't mind an Orlesian accent for the PC, as long as it has been recorded by an actual french or french canadian person. Fake french accents (Marjolaine >.<) are like nails on a chalkboard. Leliana's accent was adorable.

How can someone hate the Canadians?
No. I find that impossible to believe.

Well if the protagonist is Orlesian, then I hope that they use Stephane Cornicard to do the male voice (he did Riordan's voice). His voice is wonderful

Did anyone complain when Sean Connery captained a Russian sub without an accent? No (don't lie it barely sounded different).

If the option is between having a generic voice and an over the top french accent I'll take the generic voice all day.

Or better yet get Sean Connery, cause no one cares when he doesn't use accents.

After all of these Orleasians threads I always end up wanting not to speak English at all. So much hate on the "silly" French accents and the like. Oh well... My solution would be the actual language with subs, but I am pretty much sure that it won't happen.

Again, I bring up Sir Patrick Stewart, a British man playing a French man with a British accent. I can dig it. Especially if they actually could get Sir Patrick Stewart (yeah, there goes the entire casting budget, probably, but...).
