I promoted quite a bit at first to try out different build concepts before respec cards and for weekend challenges. Ultimately tho, levelling up makes no sense in MP to me. In an RPG adventure sure, but the MP is not an RPG adventure. But there were times when it was worth it to me, such as the times I had to promote to respec 2 or 3 characters when I couldn't get the cards, and eventually I was on 990 .. and stayed there for months.
....Until a few days ago when I finally realised I would need to draw a line under the CP system (which I eventually got addicted to because it's always in the convo at some point nowadays) .... and so I might as well make that point a goal. So even tho I never wanted the BoB banner (wanna femshep version) I am now going to do the N7 because I have (or almost have) every other one.
The CP system was good in that it made me really spend some time with classes and guns I had given up on. Despite me being someone who liked to try out odd ideas and builds/loadouts, I couldn't do them all without an incentive. But other than that I think it is putting an end to people synergising and playing as a team and when's the last time you saw a character not in the challenge system ingame? I won't claim to have been happy finding yet another "I just shoot stuff " HI or HSol in my lobby at the beginning, but I miss them now .
So I will quit, when I get the last banner.
Whatever my silly N7 number will be then is where it will stay... It always meant nothing and my increasing it for a banner won't change that. I do find it slightly sad that some people think it matters (especially if they claim it matters in some skill related way lol) even after all this time, but ... the world wouldbe a boring place if we were all the same.
(TBH, the only thing that does get me about N7 is why BW made N7 a part of the challenge system when it already has it's own unique number for those who care about it... but whining solves nothing soooooo... )
Have fun
Great post. Agree with pretty much everything you said. Except for the part about "silly N7 number". Everybody knows this was a stealth e-peen thread by the OP.

I was going to leave it at 720 but one of my Origin friends wanted to promote for Retaliation and wanted us to have the same N7 number so I said sure whatever.
If I feel like torturing myself and doing the N7 challenge that number will change for sure.

Promoting for the N7 banner.
Used to be around 1000 so numskulls who valued N7 wouldna kick me on gold way back when I started playing gold.
It's got the operation promotions in it too and a few desperation resets.
Otherwise I really don't wanna promote at all after I get that damn banner.

Only ever promoted for the weekend challenges that required it and only enough to get the pack, as I don't see the point of promoting. So won't promote just for the N7 challenge.

my N7 sits at 720, and has for MONTHS it used to be 420 till I was sentanced to promot "twice" for the "event" when I finnish the banner I'll even out my promotion numbers between each class for "fun" amd I guess "sience"
the end of this I'll have 2640 "N7 rank"
when I finnish the challenge I'll have 2520
and when I promote I don't promot 1 class I promote them "all" equally

The only way it's increasing is when all that's left is the N7 challenge.

Just kidding, I need two more promotions to get to 3000 as well. Might do that when I am terribly bored.

Only class I haven't promoted of late is the Sentinel. I pretty much know and have those built exactly how I will always use them, so there's no real need to. Plus it's handy to have a 20 around all the time in case I feel like hitting up Silver or a challenge comes around.

N7 shows just how long you've been playing, challenge points aren't cutting it, bronze/silver give to much priority over playing gold/platinum for it to be viable, while N7, (even though some fools believe its even possible with a realistic approach) can't be faked unless you glitch. There is No N7 10K+ bronze player. But there is a 45K challenge points bronze player I see everyday.

- Once, to see how it would affect the single-player campaign (I had expected to see my promoted MP character in the SP final battle or something... I was quite disappointed)
- The rest were for the bare minimum to get Commendation Packs

Already finished the Promotion challenge (all the challenges actually) so I don't really have any particular goal.
