You won't be able to stop at 5000 with all characters at level 20.
As for my N7 ranking, I'm going to finish the N7 challenge and bring all my characters to the same amount of promotions. My ending N7 ranking will be 2280. I am currently at 1557.
i had the same idea then i realized i promoted infiltrator 41 times

Yay, we got another one of those N7 rank means everything / nothing threads.SolidBeast wrote...
Notice something about N7 ranks? Didn't think so.
It's so interesting to see that people still can't distinguish between clear doubtfree evidence and a probability indicator.
Any single examples of high N7 ranks sucking or low N7 ranks rocking the boat or vice versa do prove nothing.
If you want to find any real evidence regarding the relationship between N7 rank and skill you'd have to take a statistically sufficient sample size, set up clear criteria what defines a skilled player and then acquire the respective amount of data and see if there is a correlation between the two factors or not.
I can only say from my personal experience with several hundred hours of gameplay (according to my N7HQ data) that I found the following to be true:
High N7 rank = higher chance that the player has some experience, more
than common weapons and knows how get an objective done efficiently
That's it. A higher chance. There are always and plenty exceptions to that rule, but in general a PUG Gold lobby consisting of 4 digit N7s reaches a full extraction more often and a PUG lobby consisting of low N7 ranks wipes on one of the lower waves more often. So if I have to bet my equipment and time on a group of PUGs I take the N7 rank into consideration. Of course if a N7 of 120 sports two Ultra Rares at Level X I am not that stupid as to ignore that fact and base my decision to stay in the lobby only on the N7 rank...

I don't really ever pay attention to my or anyone else's N7 rank. I just promote whenever I want an extra challenge and bring my Lvl 1's to gold.

I have discovered that in PC pugs, there is no bigger chance for anything based on rank. Since in my experience the above is obviously not true, and the simple fact remains that N7 rank is not a reliable indicator of player skill (notice how I said 'not reliable'? because there are many examples of high N7s sucking and low N7s being great), what exactly are you trying to prove that I already have not stated?
My entire point is that a high N7 can simply be a grinder (true more often than not in my experience - and from what I read on these forums, the experience of many others), not a skilled player. Yet this possibillity, despite being high, is not taken into account for some reason, and is, according to Ronnie here, nearly impossible. That's simply BS.

On a serious note, N7150. Join ME3 multiplayer pretty late (around September). Can't be bothered to promote over and over again. Plus, I'd rather stick to Gold with maxed out Lv. 20 characters (definitely better than bringing a Lv. 1-19, that's for sure). I just use respec cards whenever I want to experiment.

On a interesting note though, I'm more drawn to the "blue bar" than the N7 rankings now. Seeing how many times a person has promoted a particular class gives me more insight on how much they actually have played with it. You can be N7 20K and never promoted a vanguard. (i've seen single digit N7 11K class promotions)
hehe, yeah, someone who sees that I've promoted my engineer 44 times might feel more confident seeing me play one of those at level one than someone who sees that I've promoted my vanguard 9 times and am playing one at level 10

Funny enough the classes I like the most and do best with are the least promoted. When I have a great thing going and am happy with a spec I feel a lot less compelled to promote. The classes I don't care much about I keep promoting all the time.

The concept of achieving 9001 and never using 2/6 classes does seem appealing... The time/effort and inability to play 2 classes of character seems like oh so much to do.
And (didn't read all the posts tl;dr) at the OP (if someone hasn't already mentioned it) a N7 score of exactly 5000 is impossible to maintain if you want to use all 6 classes as it isn't divisible by 30.

I took a Black Hole Glitch to the Profile, and don't care to promote much either.

Uhm, why should anybody feel more confident about you playing a level 1 engineer just because you've pressed the 'promote' button often for that class?
Why should I feel confident in you being able to hold your own if I have to assume that all you can do is cast a lvl 1 combat drone and lvl 1 overload?
What I mean to say is that lvl 1 characters often are too similar, lacking their defining abilities/combos, so how is the number of promotions of any interest?
A level 10 Volus Vanguard might easily have the exact same skills + charge as a level one Volus Engineer, only at higher levels. It's funny how you yourself seem to be more confident with a class that's got nothing to offer compared to others, because you've promoted it more often.
I also don't see how you can play a level one char power heavy, no matter to which class it might belong to. If you're not going to maximize your weapon damage output on a level one char, you're doing it wrong, sorry.
On topic: Mine is 1050. I'll only promote if I'm out of respec cards or for an event and that number is simply where I ended up so far.
