as I understand, Casey Hudson is afraid that making ME4 a sequel means canonizing an ending, which he doesn't want to do, BUT why not canonize MEHEM ending? I think that would be cool :o  =]=]

thoughts? :P

the problem with that is that the MEHEM ending is only available as a PC mod. They would have to first release it on the console versions of the game before they can canonize it not to mention make an official version of the mod

Seen as how they said that all the writers are working on the next dlc, that could mean they are making an official version of the MEHEM to make a sequel easier to do for them.  I highly doubt they are making the MEHEM official, but they could be making the ending easier to make a sequel

MEHEM's ending is probably the only way I'll play ME4. Of course, my purchase of ME4 is also conditional on Shepard still being (if only optional) the central character I play. No Shepard, no ME4.

I support OP.

Bioware must port MEHEM to consoles if the want to sell "any" ME4.

From my circle of friends, only one "meh" the ending, the other 17 hated it. Me too.

The other solution is make IT real using another character on a paralell story to sheppard's.

I mean, like Bean on "Ender's Shadow", the never-seen "Sheppard alternative", that confronts him/her and has to choose survive him/herself in order to save sheppard from indoctrination.

No, and it won't happen (it's just a fan made mod, and well, not a very creative ending imo), even if I can understand the "MEHEM people's" desire.

I don't think that we would get a sequel in the first place, or if we get one, they will canonize one of the 3 endings. Most probably destroy, for the other two are more like backstreet utopias. In control: you have the reapers helping you... or another reaper war, if Shep is going rouge. God, please no more of the reapers! In Synthesis you have the reapers again either on your side or turning against you again. No! Or in both of these endings you encounter a much greater threat than the reapers were... and lets face it, that would be utterly ridiculous, also it would make destroy a sucker of an ending.

Also: they stated that there will be no more Shepard, nor a Shepard like James Bond meets Rambo action hero. Most probably it will be a lot smaller scale conflict, with a different kind of protagonist and story dynamic... and hopefully lore heavy and choice heavy. I wouldn't mind if it was only one very long, singular game with a self-contained story (would make it possilbe to make the story line less linear, choices play out more spectacularly etc.), than a whole trilogy.

No, I dislike the MEHEM more then the original three endings and if they make it a canon ending no Mass Effect 4 purchase from me. Besides its a fan made ending, it can open a lot of legal options if BioWare used it as their own, unless they enter a legal agreement with the person that made it.

i am confused .. mass effect is the property of bioware and ea. while we are alowed to modify the single player game, the mod does not become the property of the creator.

while i like mehem - i dont think, that it will be canon .. none of the current endings are canon-worthy.

if mass effect is going to pull off another "invisible war", i will certainly not buy it. same for everything except high ems destroy (with a clearly surviving shepard).

a new ending would be the best foundation for the next mass effect - one we all dislike equally.

but .. despite their statements, the new hero will be like all the other ones that came before:
- natural leader
- own spaceship/hub
- able combatant
- companions
- face the greatest danger of its time

in other words: warden 2.0, shepard 2.0, hawke 2.0 ....

Making ME4 at least MEHEM-compatible would be a good peace offering on Bioware's part, at least.

I know, I know, there are people who like grimdark bitter endings. but not everyone likes chugging vinegar.

I support MEHEM but it IS just a fanmade mod. Nothing more, nothing less. Everybody that doesn't like the normal endings can install it but something not supported by the developers of the original game shouldn't be in any way relevant for future installments of the franchise.

Sorry, I wasn't a clear as I wanted to be.  You are correct.

I also agree that none of the endings no matter what they are can be considered canon worthy, so I hope when they continue with Mass Effect 4 they have some work around so they don't have to canonize any of them or even mention them to be honest.

This would all make sense if I knew what MEHEM meant.
