Did anyone get the whole "What did you just say" feeling when they first heard that? Playing through the game again after hearing him say that I'm getting the flashback. It was just so... sudden.

Cause he didn't say "I lost my wife?"

I think you can take it that in this game's universe, same sex relationships are no big deal.

I wasn't really concerned about what he was saying, but when he started to cry, I cringed.

I admit I never went and talked to him because he was gay.

Or Vega because he was so lame.

I have no quarrel with same sex relationships, but it was just so sudden. I was just like "Wait wait hold up what?" at the time.

I tried to be quiet the first time I heard him say that, but every other time Cortez tried to be nice to my Shepard it made me almost laugh

I had to do make sure I heard the right thing, but then I remembered Bioware added gay male romances and took the standard precautions to not get ninjamanced.

For one moment only. It was nothing shocking considering the ME universe, besides Steve is one of the best characters to debut in Mass Effect 3.

Thats debatable, I think he was an awful character 2nd only to Ashley.

Gotta be careful not to get forced into a romance for being a good person. I remember in Dragon Age II, I was being nice to Anders and BAM they kissed. Like what the heck, Nice =/= Interested in a relationship.

While playing a femshep I enjoyed Steve once it became clear he wasn't going to hit on me for merely having a friendly chat, unlike all femshep romanceables. Took some doing to get him to man up, but I succeeded and he was fun to have around after that.

This bothered me with Jack in ME2 but good thing this doesn't happens with Steve. You need to choose your answers if you want a romantic relationship with him.

To be fair, though, a lot of BioWare's romances tend to be that way, not just the same-sex ones. I still remember being caught off guard when Kaidan was expressing interest in me way back in ME1. I was like, wow, where did that come from, I don't remember giving off any clues that I'd be interested in you...

I also remember Leliana scolding me for showing interest in Alastair in DA:O. It caught me so off guard because I wasn't interested in him and to the best of my knowledge said nothing that would have hinted at that.

Well I wouldn't say Human same-sex relationships are okay in ME U since that Shepard remark about Liara's omni sexuality in ME1 but Steve is an okay character. Not good or bad, just okay-ish. Sorta like cannon-fodder for any possible Virmire mission okay.

But honestly, I know I am a horrible person but when he cries at the video with his am face like that - it always cracks me up

He's standing over the console raining tears. I'm guessing he felt he needed to explain why.  I don't think he'd be so torn up over a side piece or even a boyfriend.  He could have said twin brother or brother. That probably could have fit his emotional state as well since you do hear the male voice on the recording.

To be honest, I wouldn't have minded a heart symbol next to the relevant reponses that would trigger romance in the ME series. I'm in the habit of saving before talking to any crewmates just because.

Well, it's going to come up sooner or later - might as well get it out of the way.

From what I've seen on YouTube, Anders is infinitely more annoying with his ninjamance moves (to male and female Hawke both). Although, to be honest, Anders is infinitely more annoying in general. Say what you will about the treatment of ME2 characters in ME3 - none of them got ass-f*cked as badly as Anders was between Awakening and DA2. Might even be what turned him bi-curious to begin with.
