to me, it felt natural that steve had a husband ... the situation was not awkward (at least not to me).

He was crying like a beetch while watching an overdramatic recording of his homosexual partner dying in combat private ryan style in front. At a workstation. In front of a dozen people. During working hours.

Yah, it felt very awkward to me.

no one is saying he can't have a husband, but it didn't take much for him t move on from somebody he supposedly loves.

This is how I feel about the gay thing. I don't care that people do it but I don't want to see it. I know there is this whole iiberation thing going. They just passed gay marriages in my state in Washington. I am not religious by any means but watching two guys kissing and whatever just feels unnatural to me!

Now with the ME3. At first I was kinda of distant from his character and saw that he dies if your not nice to him. So since I don't want people to die, I ended up being nice to him and he survived.

I think for the most part people may think that when a man says he lost his husband that it must be a mistake. If our society truly excepts the idea of gay marriages than hearing that phase wouldn't shock people.

Not sure if that is going to happen in my lifetime?

well .. loosing a loved person is a trauma. steve was off balance in this situation. the reapers invaded only hours ago.

steve being gay was not awkward. ok .. maybe because i am open minded.

i saw comrades breaking on incitent scenes .. turning pale, puking, crying .. some things are traumatising to watch. i agree, that carrying the picture of your dead husband around your workplace is not really professional but people breaking under stress is normal.

Any homosexual character handled in a video game would feel awkward as he has to be written accordingly wasn't offending anyone and blah, blah, blah

it wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't the first bloody think he said to me! If we knew the character for a little while longer THEN the emotional breakdown would have had more impact

i really dont care who kisses who. i think in this day and age it is nice to know that actually someone loves you. doesnt matter if you're gay, straight, whatever. we all like to be loved. Gay marriage doesnt bother me. Straight people getting married doesnt bother me.

Me i've been married now for 20 years to my gorgeous wife. I have 2 children, one 19 year old laddo and a beautiful daughter aged 11 who suffers from CP. They are my life. I have a sister who is gay. hey shes gay......but shes my sister... err..... and......

sexuality really doesnt matter. who gives a smeg if someones gay? she'd be there fighting the reapers, just like me.. (and she does) we are all human.

I think there are worse things than who loves who to worry about. Whatever rocks your boat and all that. Fact that Steeeeeeeve is gay doesnt bother me at all. he's fighting the reapers just like the rest of us. thats all that matters to shepard. thats all that should matter to the rest of us.

Did anyone get the whole "What did you just say" feeling when they first heard that? Playing through the game again after hearing him say that I'm getting the flashback. It was just so... sudden.

Well, it's going to come up sooner or later - might as well get it out of the way.

From what I've seen on YouTube, Anders is infinitely more annoying with his ninjamance moves (to male and female Hawke both). Although, to be honest, Anders is infinitely more annoying in general. Say what you will about the treatment of ME2 characters in ME3 - none of them got ass-f*cked as badly as Anders was between Awakening and DA2. Might even be what turned him bi-curious to begin with.

"I love you, but I'm a monster!!!!  Don't love me!  Pleaasseee." - Anders romance in a nutshell

i asked him whats wrong - he told me, that he lost his husband. should he lie? he is not telling you "i am gay lets ****!"

writing a homosexual character is not easy - they should have hired a consultant.

I know they're trying but it still comes off as forceful. They just made up these two character because Bioware figured they'd need at least one more legit gay LI but Kelly was only optional in ME2.

IMHO, they should have went with fan-favorites like Garrus and Tali, sorta like what they've done to Kaidan

Whenever Steve would start crying and I had the option to do a Paragon interrupt I avoided it because I was scared my Shepard would start hugging and kissing him. Unfortunately for gay people and gay supporters I was raised with the knowledge that a man should ONLY love a woman and a woman should ONLY love a man and that attitude will shape my life in the real world and in video games. I do not "hate" gay/lesbian people but I do find their shows of public affection to be disturbing to me and many of my friends; what I DO hate though is the fact that I am bashed for having this personal opinion both at school and online because as they put it, "Love does not discriminate between sexes".

retconing kaiden was awkward - really. "i am more into adventurous women." did he turn bisexual over night or what? btw. did they retcon ash as well? she was not clearly heterosexual in the first game ..

garrus is hetero as well ... the "tiebreaker"is hint enough. he could be bisexual, but he never showed interst in me2.
tali is a female garrus on this behalf. she gave my femshep a claer knock-back, even before my femshep could get "direct".

so both are hetero by lore. tbh - one retcon was enough.

steves intruduction as a gay man was not awkward. his unprofessional behaviour was a bit (as a co, i could live with that (behaviour), if it would not interfere with his duties). to me, it felt natural, that he had a husband.

sams introduction was more subtile - i overheard ken and gabby talking about it.

Cortez being gay didn't seem weird at all.

Now, Joker being a robosexual, on the other hand...

Making Garrus a maleshep LI would have caused more backlash than making Kaiden a maleshep LI.

As far as Steve getting over his husband... this game takes place over the course of maybe 1.5 months. The end of the galaxy is on the verge and Shep even addresses this with saying that people are hooking up left and right to Joker.

So, it's understandable that Steve attached himself to Shep as he's in an emotional state and who better to date than the guy who's saving the entire galaxy?

The retcon for Kaidan was a late editing change in ME1. ME3 just restores him to where he was supposed to be.

He's not the stereotypical gay guy so yea it was kind of surprising at first.

I think that's why a lot of people who do like him, like him.

He's not sitting there trying to redecorate the loft or gossip with Liara or constantly flirt with a male shep who's not interested.

He's just a guy. No big deal.

He's not just a guy.
He is very emotional, crying out loud in cargo bay.
He has a feminine look to him too, most notable the face.
He is male but that is about it.

I wonder who was the wife though.

The trolling is strong with this one.

If Ash considers herself a Christian, she wouldn't be homosexual.

Edit: or practice it, at least.

I use male pronouns to refer to everyone, so no it didn't sound weird to me.
