hello all, i am returning from yet another absence from nwn2 and am interested in making a build based on a character from a book series i like.

Talon of the Silver Hawk is the name of a young man created by Raymond E Feist, he is a Duelist style character and im looking for advice and the like

this build is only a plan in my head as i get so obsessive if there is even one element i dislike i will delete and start again which gets quite boring eventually(seen the intro more times than i care to remember)

Human, fighter(6 or 7 levels, enough to get what i need basically) then duelist(once ive maxed duelist back to fighter)

his core skills are fencing(unarmored 1 handed sword fighting) and generally chaotic good values(does good for the conclave but the conclave often perfom evil acts in the name of good)
at level one i intend to take luck of heroes and able learner then obviously concentrate on weapon specialisation and the pre-req skills for duelist

his skills(he is viewed as a gentleman) fit around his ability to move easily around combat, sense danger and magic use so i was thinking
tumble
spellcasting
parry
diplomacy
bluff

not bothering with search as although it would fit into his character style i dont really use it

the issues im having is that ive tried to make a duelist before and lamed it a few times im wondering if i should wait a few more levels before going for duelist or if theres a link im missing? would a few more points in parry via items make me more defensible? any thoughts?

if you have read the Conclave of Shadows and think you know how to improve my build or know a good way to implement another class into there or just think you could give me advice or a build idea, anyhting basically... just shout me id love your advice
nice one people

If you have SoZ, maybe you could do something like Swashbuckler 3/Fighter 12/Duelist 10/X 5, taking Epic Weapon Focus/Specialization. Damage won't be great, though. If you use Kaedrin's Pack, Champion of the Wild would be a no-brainer.

Parry is bad because it only lets you attack 3 times per round. Search is not that useful unless you're a rogue. Besides, there's not much point in taking it if you aren't taking Disable Device as well.

thats a nice arrangement but i dont recognise the "X" part as ive only seen SoZ dont own it(until next paycheck) i have to rebuy nwn2 as well due to them being lost moving house >< so what is champion of the wild and what does it do? thanks for the advice though.

not too mad about damage, id just play a broadsword fighter/weapon master if i wanted damage, im more after playing through with a character i want to play and enjoy customising step by step into the character i love so much i re-read the books repeatedly XD

thanks a lot for the advice

X is the "whatever you feel like" class. :-)

Yep, anything to fill those 5 levels. I mentioned damage because it might be a problem against some enemies, though I guess it's not THAT bad.

Champion of the Wild is a class introduced with Kaedrin's Pack (a mod that adds extra classes, feats, etc.) which adds damage from dexterity in addition to strength (or any other sources), so it's a really good class for dexterity-based melee characters.

right nice one, ill make sure to look out for that, do i have to download it? or is it a pack that comes with SoZ? the reason im not terrified of non-maxed damage is due to the team you operate with, i tend to always go for max damage melee flesh tank in these games(with the exception of bombcasters in games like Diablo) but i dislike the spellcasting system in this game and cannot make a decent summoner, i like the necromancer approach D2 gives you rather than a wolf here, a badger there etc.

this time i want to play the game differently and i think a finesse character would be fun, i can always use my teamates to buff me out and help with dmg... what do you think to X=NW9?? i like the idea of that class in there

You can download Kaedrin's pack (if you want to) here.

non-maxed damage

Right, but one thing is "non-maxed", and another thing is "decent". At most, this build's damage could be called "decent", and that's being generous. You shouldn't have many problems in the OC, but keep that in mind.

what do you think to X=NW9?? i like the idea of that class in there

It's ok, I guess. It doesn't add much but it's not a bad pick either. If you like the class, go for it. I'd leave at 3, though, and take 2 more fighter levels for an extra feat.

Another classic split is Swash 3/Fighter 12/Duelist 6/Weapon Master 7. With a rapier.

damn i need to get SoZ. ive always thought the swash would be a good adition to that build with WM in there for the 7 levels to get crit. found my nwn2 oc (at my friends) so am installing it now.

ill see how i get on, only problem is ive made a duelist before and he always starts to struggle at the warehouse mission,
i only get further with flesh tanks. thats why i thought parry might be useful. garr now im wondering what to do...!!! i hate my indecision in high customisable games!

Thanks for your advice though, do appreciate it
if you have any ideas for decent melee builds let me know(no bard,F,RDD etc) as if duelist fails its either broadsword F/WM or vanilla 20F

Oh, I missed the part where you said that you don't own SoZ. Do you have MotB? If it's a level 20 build for the OC, I'd pass on WM (lots of crit immunes in the OC), and maybe take a ranger level and Improved Favored Enemy (Undead).

For example, Fighter 8/Ranger 1/Duelist 10/X1 should be fine. X can be rogue (for traps and locks), bard, shadowdancer, barbarian...

yeah i have MotB, i used to use it to plan builds or to import a lvl 18 into the main oc so i can fast play the first half of the campaign of which i have played so many times its tedious

i just cant help but play the game due to its customisability.

once i have a character i like im even going to post on here and try and find an accepting online community to meet up and play online with if one such still exists.

being a father of a 7month old who doesnt get out often i tend to play online games a lot and i used to play dnd pnp as a youth i just cant get out to the meets anymore.

i think your 8f/1r/10d/1x might work as if i build it into an rpg character he was a hunter before a swordsman(massive nerd)
