I laugh at the media. Its why I mentioned Sanchez and Tebow. The high praise they were getting and lets see how that all turned out. That is no slight against Keaprneck,
I am that team fan that pisses all the rest off. I saw talent in FLacco (and hes still lacking in aspects. Paying attention to the play clock is one of those) and happily laid more hate on him then most but he is a fine quarterback. Not to mention all this season I have been downright abusive of the defensive and how most the season they were rushing 3-4 people. I do not care if we got the big names out. That D is built on blitzing and not doing it hurt us thru the season.
With Ray Lewis retiring I am a bit fearful. I know I am tired of hearing but him being a leader on and off the field is true and there is no one on that team to take his place. I hoope he decides or gets talked into staying on in a defensive coaching role.
ANd how the defense has been playing thru the playoffs... the 49ers have not seen the likes of it. Two future hall of famers. Then Suggs and Nagta can easily make their places. All can shed a blocker like water of a ducks back and are always looking to strip the ball.
Niners struggled against the Falcons defense and the niners defense gave up easy points in the first half.

I want a good game. I want a double overtime with a Ravens win... I also would like to see a shutout. The problem of loving the game and seeing your team in the big game.

Well, you have my respects addiction. Too many times when a team is winning, fans don't bother to look at the details and only on the results, which may be misleading. Sometimes problems may lie just under the surface, and in turn, sometimes teams that do poorly may only be missing a few pieces of the puzzle or just some good luck to turn their ship around. For example, my bears were winning early in the season, but the fans never bothered to notice that once again, it was the defense winning the games for the abysmal offense. Soon as they got to some opponents of calibre, their problems were far too quickly exposed. Their problems are so bad, they didn't know where to start, so they just fired all the coaching staff. And now, they are looking like they are going to be much worse then last year...its so bad you can't help but laugh.

However, things can't always be negative. There are times when a team plays so well that the little details or nagging points must be overlooked in light of the tremendous group effort. There are times when praise goes well deserved, and the smaller errors have to go overlooked. Your Ravens have gone far, and have overcome great odds to do it. Take a moment to be proud of your Ravens and give them your support. Though really...the Superbowl is less for the fans and more for the wealthy that can afford to attend it. Such is the state...smh

Relax about Ray Lewis too. Coach Harbough right now is not worried about Ray Lewis right now. Heck, not even Ray Lewis is worried about Ray Lewis retiring right now. They are both thinking about Feb 3rd. After that has passed...then its ok to wonder what will happen next season.

Hehe...I feel like a double over time in the Superbowl will result in a spike in heart attacks in both Baltimore and San Francisco lol

Also, on Kaepernick - I think him and Wilson are the two current quarterbacks of the latest NFL fad that can best survive and have longevity in the NFL. Wilson, because he throws it much more than he runs it (the read-option is a change up for their offense, not a staple) and he knows when to slide, and Kaepernick, because not only does he run like a gazelle, he's also got more power and seems to be the most elusive.

As I said, I think the current read-option craze is just a fad, nothing more, but they've both got the tools necessary to be successful even when defenses start to figure that out. Johnny Manziel, same thing, whenever he chooses to leave school.

I'm usually late to the bandwagon but from what little we have seen of Kaepernick he looks like the real deal, just needs some touch on that fastball. The 49'ers are a hell of a team though, they've made his job pretty easy so far.

Modjospinster mentioned how good that offensive line is, all you need to do is look at the game versus the Packers, nobody was within ten yards of Kaepernick on any of those runs. And a banged up Joe Staley completely shutdown Matthews.

On paper I like San Francisco to win but the Ravens always seem to find a way.

Thanks Modjo I try to keep a clear head. I also know I am not perfect and the fan does take over in me. The over worrying about Lewis retiring and such. Then again I do it for them because it is my team so I know they have their heads in the right place.
Don't worry many a chest was clutched in that Denver game.

Yes Baron. The read is just a fad like the wildcat has been and how so many were throwing the no huddle out this year. I really em behind keapernick (unless they win in a week and I will hate him until he retires) but I think he can make it. Win or lose next year if he is kept on as starter we will see the truth.

Slotts. Denver has a good line too. Peyton saved so many sacks and made so many completions just because of who he is. I just do not think Keapernick has the awareness for what is coming. He had 9 fumbles in the 6 games in regular season. If he runs he will be penned in and the Ravens tackle and strip the ball as good as any team in the league. If he gets pressure and tries to dump it off there are nothing but ball hawks out there looking for a pick or at the least a tip.

It going to be good either way.

Yeah, Baron, I don't wish any bad on RG III, but I don't see him surviving another season. He runs way too much and is already so banged up, especially since it is his first NFL season. If he keeps playing like he does, I don't see him lasting in the NFL. Wilson definitely knows how to use his run since he hasn't gotten injured and Kaepernick and Newton can withstand tackles because they are large quarterbacks.

Uh oh, its the 'power outage' game. I hope the Ravens show some life before the end. They're such an emotional team, I think the power outage really effected them because of that.

Absolutely brutal call on that obvious pass interference, let alone holding, in the end zone on fourth down. Terrible. Cost the 49ers a championship.

Lots of mutual contact and a pass that was debatably uncatchable. Refs made the right call to not alter the course of the game with a penalty.

49ers fans will scream for that flag...but of course neglect to mention the refs missed an even more obvious 15 yard personal foul call when Flacco got blasted out of bounds on the drive before.

Both were obvious. I don't see what is unclear about that play...it was very catchable and it was a hold and interference.

It was an exciting Super Bowl, and the pass interference catch will definitely be a key discussion point in the afternoon. After a all the talk from the 49ers, I started going for the Ravens. I thought the 49ers were getting too cocky with Kaepernick trademarking his touchdown celebration and Randy Moss saying he is the greatest ever. Their heads got too big.

I'm happy Ray Lewis ended his career at a high; I feel bad for how Tony Gonzalez didn't even get to the Super Bowl. Anyways, the commercials this year didn't suck like last's. The half-time show sucked except it surprised me seeing the Destiny's Child reunite for the show.

A few things:

1) Had the personal foul been called on Flacco, the Ravens would have had a first and goal situation instead of having to settle for a field goal.  The game could very well been out of reach.  Both are potential game-breeakers, you can't call one and neglect the other.

2) That ball was *not* very catchable.  It was hurried, thrown off the back foot, not an ideal trajectory for a fade pattern, and landed out of bounds.

3) Michael Crabtree's hand was riding the helmet of the Baltimore defender which was also obvious (he was wearing a white glove!) and also illegal.  That's two football players battling for position, illegally, within the 5 yard zone.  The ideal manner to handle that is to let the players decide the fate of the game, which is exactly what occurred and the ex-head of the league officials feels exactly the same way.

Yup. I liked how the refs called the game, letting the players play for the most part.

Nope. If you're in a position where you have to rely on a penalty to "win" then you've screwed up long before that point. Crabtree ran a bad route; Crabtree initiated the contact when he should have just gone outside to the back pylon. If he went straight for the back of the endzone, and Smith still held him, maybe he would have gotten the call. But instead, Crabtree initiated the contact by going too far inside and at that point both him and Smith were grabbing and pushing each other and you're simply not going to get a call in that situation.

And if you want to bring up no calls, then you could just as easily bring up Flacco being hit out of bounds as a no call that would have likely changed the game just as much.

I agree with Brockolly. The fact that no one was ejected in that scrap in the first half and they just issued out offsetting penalities was a big sign to me that they were just going to let them play it out.

Flaco had a heck of a game, as did Jacoby Jones. Kappernick kicked it into gear after a sluggish first half, but I didn't feel like Gore or the San Fran running game ever showed up. I mean, hey couldn't punch it in on a first and Goal on the three yard line? That was how the game was lost, right there.

All that aside, if you had said "Joe Flaco - Superbowl MVP" to me at the start of the season, Inwould have laughed you out of the room. They had a big turnaround season and a great post-season run. Congrats, Ravens.

I went into watching the game with little idea of what it was all about - Football just isn't that much of a thing here in Germany. I've watched one or two Super Bowls on night shifts before, but this was the first time I watched it really "on purpose". And with a friend who actually knew the rules from being a huge fan quite some years ago. ^^

I sure as hell didn't understand all the subtleties of the game, but I got a real good basic understanding of the rules and, damn, it really is intriguing. All in all it was just a fun night - next year we're definitely going to force some of our friends into taking a day off to join us!

That's the spirit! Football really is an intense, fun-to-watch sport. I'm really surprised with the Superbowl being one of the most televised event in the world that its not a sport more followed internationally.

We do have a national league here, but I have to admit that I couldn't even name more than one team. Overall the sport just isn't even remotely as popular as soccer in these parts, and compared to how big a part of tradition and culture it is in the USA it might as well be nonexistent. Besides the Super Bowl itself, and this year the semi-finals (which surely have some fancy name I'm not aware of ^^) there simply isn't any Football to watch on television here. :(

Deion Sanders said it best. You can tell by Crabtree's reaction or lack of one that there wasn't a penalty, as he himself initiated contact. How many receivers can you remember being obstructed and not crying murder.

Ya we sort of do. Call them the playoffs or the postseason and then we have two championship games between to leagues that are pretty much United states only. AFC being the American Football Conference and the NFC the National Football Conference.

Of course being the local Ravens cheerleader around here I am happy with the turnout :)
